Buick Lesabre owners have reported 9 problems related to engine belts and pulleys (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Buick Lesabre based on all problems reported for the Lesabre.
I recently purchased this vehicle used. Upon inspection, I discovered that the brake lines are severely corroded and require replacement. On further inspection, I discovered that the engine cradle, bushings, and fastening hardware are severely corroded as well. The rest of the vehicle is not corroded in any way, not even rust belt problem areas. From researching online (including other complaints on this website) both of these issues are common in late 90's gm w-body vehicles. How this has not elevated into a safety investigation by now is troubling to me. Ford was required to recall due to rusting brake lines. . . . . . Do people have to die for the nhsta to investigate?.

1998 Lesabre stalled while driving on the highway. The first time the vehicle stalled, the problem was diagnosed as a cracked cylinder head and damaged plenum. On another occasion, when the vehicle stalled, the mechanic forgot to reconnect the alternator. The dealer stated another reason why the vehicle stalled on one of several occasions, was because a crankshaft sensor had failed, but was not related to the previous problems, however later that day the vehicle stalled again. The serpentine belt failed, which caused the consumer to lose power steering.

While backing into a parking space, heard a loud noise and lost power steering. Power steering pump detached from where it was anchored. The two bolts that secured the pump were severed which caused the serpentine belt to come off. The two bolts were severed as if they had been cut with a saw.
Simple facts when rear ended the seats on 1999 Buick Lesabre broke back sending in back seat, seat belt nearly killed me , and the jack placed on the right wing flew in the front seat. . . . . . Then in 2002 the car caused a major explosion nearly killing me with a flying Buick sign caught on fire the tires . . . . . Etc problem . . . . Intake manifold the car only had little mileage and yes was well maintained.
In June of this year when I went in for an ordinary oil change and was told that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced, which was done on June 19th and cost us $131. Since then it has been one thing after another, the gas gauge stopped working and to repair that plus the oil change and automatic transmission service that ran us $764. On October 20th after getting into the car and starting it, the temperature light came on, and I immediately took it to your service department. That was the egr valve which was $313. Then six days later on October 26th the car started to overheat when I pulled into my garage, after letting it cool we checked the coolant jar and there was nothing in it. We added water then took it straight to your service department, this time they had to replace the intake manifold which cost us $391. In between these happening I took the car in to have the brakes checked and they told me that the front brakes and the two rotors had to be replaced. We took it to another garage and had them check them since they had only been replaced less than one year before and had less than 15,000 miles. We were told there was nothing wrong with the front brakes. While road testing the car on November 25th the engine cut out and the oil light came on. When the car was started up the oil pressure went all the way down. It was taken straight to your service department and left there until it was checked on Monday the 27th. We were told that the engine needed to be replaced and the cost was going to be $3,400.
Serpentine belt flipped off pulley because crank pulley is bent at inner grove belt. Yh.
