3 Headlights problem of the 2004 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

Headlights fail intermittently while driving. While driving last night the low beam headlights went out. The high beams still worked. This is about the sixth time this has happened. I changed out the headlight relay just before this occurred as I had seen a recall on 2006 and 2007 Rainiers showing this as the problem. After a short time the high beams also went out. I parked and turned the engine off for a while and when I restarted the high beams were working again but not the low beams. I was doing a combination of street and highway driving and it appears to be unrelated to any road conditions as this has happened on both highways and city streets.

4 Headlights problem of the 2004 Buick Rainier

5 Headlights problem of the 2005 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 10/17/2017

While driving down the interstate last night at about 70 mph my low-beam headlights suddenly went off plunging the road ahead of me into pitch black darkness. Full beam and directional lights were still functioning, managed to safely pull of to the side of the interstate, and luckily was able to use my cell phone to determine that the solid state headlight relay had failed. Luckily there is a similar relay located in the fuse box that controls the engine fan that I was able to utilize and continue on my journey. Needless to say this was a very unnerving/scary experience and can't imagine what it would be like for a less experienced driver. I find it hard to believe that gm thought that a system that could affect both headlight simultaneously in this way was remotely even a good idea?!.

13 Headlights problem of the 2005 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 09/05/2015

On the evening of 9/5/2015 I was driving my 2005 Buick Rainier when the low beam headlights went out. I was able to drive to a safe location using my high beam headlights. When inspected by my local Buick dealer (ferman Buick) it was found that relay 46 (headlamp driver module) had burned up and damaged additional fuses and relays. The entire fuse box had to be replaced due to the damage. This case has been reported to gm (#8-1567980379). Gm currently has multiple years of Buick Rainier under recall for this exact problem, so I'm hoping they expand the recall to cover 2005.

15 Headlights problem of the 2004 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 06/02/2015

Have noticed after a heavy and driving rain that the electrical systems acts up. We call it crazy car! all the dash lights blink & flash, bells ding and gauges fluctuate while the vehicle is at rest and on the move. We shut the engine off, sit for a minute and restart only to get the same thing. That may happen for the entire ride duration or we may get no dash lights at all. It appears to me that there is a short or a moisture that creates this happening because after a few days of good sunny weather where the water has evaporated from the roadways, our beloved rainer comes back to normal. We still experience the dimming of the headlights as we are driving at night when we are cruising with no gas pedal application at around the 32 mph marking which is rather annoying as other drivers feel as if we are flashing them. We see a down surge in the battery gauge drop for 14 volts to 11 volts and then come back up. Sometimes this can happen once or twice during a 10 mile ride or as many as 50! we wonder, when, OH, when will gm pay attention to these complaints or are we just talking into the wind?.

25 Headlights problem of the 2005 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 02/22/2008

Headlights dim with heated seats on and with heater on. In cold weather. Notice lights dim at night and volt gauge goes down and then back to normal. Do not want to take it to the dealer and pay for diag when there is a tech bulletin out. And I know I will be told they cannot duplicate it. I don't drive the car much only at night, happens all the time. I hope there will be some kind of recall that comes out. But gm doesn't care.

31 Headlights problem of the 2004 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 10/28/2004

In October, 2003 I purchased a new 2004 Buick Rainier. A couple months later my wife and I were driving home one night and the headlights suddenly dimmed and then came back up. It happened at least twice that night. We took it to the dealer and reported the problem. They were fixing several other problems at the same time so we assumed it was fixed. Last week, October 28, 2004, I was driving on the freeway over a dark mountain pass when the headlights went completely off. They stayed off for 2 to 3 seconds before coming back on. Luckily, I didn't crash because the lights of a nearby semi kept me from crashing into the freeway barrier. I followed the semi after that because I was afraid they would go off again. A few miles down the road, in a narrow on-lane construction area the headlights dimmed several times but never went completely out. Hen I reported the problem to the dealer the next day he was absolutely willing to do anything to fix the problem and understood completely how dangerous it was. But, the gm representatives and corporate office refuses to even recognize that there is a problem because it hasn't been replicated in the shop so will not authorize our dealer to find the problem and fix it. The dealer has called gm several time and I have called several times. Gm basically told me that they didn't care if I died and/or killed other people as far as they were concerned there was no problem.

32 Headlights problem of the 2004 Buick Rainier

Failure Date: 05/14/2004

Awd does not engage. Very dangerous on a slick road. Had SUV to dealer 3-4 times. They never fix the problem. Front wheels of SUV make grinding noise after a few hours of driving. Headlights go dim/and even turn off for a few seconds while driving at night. Took to dealer, of course no problem was found. Someone's going to be killed because of both these problems with the Buick Rainier.
