1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 12/31/2010

I have a 2001 Buick Regal that has a 3. 8 litre supercharged engine. This vehicle was recalled for starting on fire from oil dripping onto the exhaust. I had the recall done over a year ago. I drove the car every day. Recently I left the car parked for two days. When I started driving the car toward work I noticed that it was shuttering slightly and after about four miles I turned around to head back home. On the way back I noticed a burning smell and smoke started coming out from the floor near the shifter. I quickly pulled into a parking lot and got out. The car burst into flames and was completely destroyed. I was not hurt but the car was a total loss. I called Buick to tell them what happened. I got their claim department. I told them what happened. They asked me if I wanted to file a claim. I told them I was concerned that I had the recall done and the car burst into flames anyway and that I wanted someone to look at it to determine if the recall was done correctly or possibly the recall doesn't work. They told me someone would call me within 10 days. No one called and I got a letter in the mail saying they were not liable after two years after the purchase of the car. My concern is that the recall does not work, that no one ever came to look at the car and the dismissed me without taking me seriously at all. The car was in perfect driving shape and had no previous problems. I told Buick that I was concerned that if the recall doesnt work people could be killed (I was less than 100 feet from the car when it burst into flames). The entire car was burnt down to bare metal except the engine which looked new. The owner of the tow yard said he had never seen a car burn that way unless the owner tried to burn it or the exhaust set the bottom of the car on fire. Buick excepts no resposibility for this and they did not care enough to look at the car the ensure the recall worked or that other people do not get hurt if it fails.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1997 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/25/2009

I left work on my break drove a half mile to home got out my car and came in the house for about five minutes. Then a officer was at my door and told me my car was on fire. The flames were very bad under my hood. The police was telling everyone to move there cars and stay in there apartments. It took about ten minutes before the firemen to get there. When they arrive and open the hood a ball of fire shot out. They put it out. The car was burnt up badly. So I call gm and gave a fire report. It was a recall on my engine and gm sent me a letter to go and get it service. And I did go to mikes Buick on 04/09 and they fix the recall. And on 05/25/09 that's when my car caught on fire. Mikes came out and towed my car to there shop. They call me about five days after that and said they could not do any thing for me. Now I have no transportation to work they just don't care about there mistake. My car was perfectly fine until they worked on it and then it just badly burnt up. I really need some help with this problem I am a single mother of 5 and now I have no transportation for work or school. Please help us. Thank you very much.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 06/19/2008

The contact owns a 2001 Buick Regal. The contact received Buick recall notice number 07035 or NHTSA campaign id number 08v118000 regarding the gasket on his vehicle. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they repaired the first gasket. The contact stated that the second gasket is experiencing the same failure; however, the dealer does not want to make the repair. He called gm to file a complaint and they referred him to NHTSA. Currently, the gasket is leaking and dripping down onto the exhaust manifold. The failure mileage was 30,000.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/13/2008

This is in regards NHTSA action number: ea07008 the recall replaces one of the valve cover gaskets. Obviously, when the car is brought in every gm dealer is going to tell you the other gasket is leaking also and should be replaced. I talked with the service manager at my gm dealer and he sees no reason why one side is different than the other. The recall references valve cover gaskets and hot exhaust system components which are on both sides of the engine. After being told that this may cause a fire most people are going to feel compelled to replace both side and wind up spending approximately $250. If there is no risk on the gasket covering cylinders 2-4-6, the recall as well as gm should state that, otherwise they should replace both.
