Buick Regal owners have reported 11 problems related to engine shut off without warning (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Buick Regal based on all problems reported for the Regal.
Engine has a defect that causes a piece of the engine to break off and end up in the oil lines, ends up in oil pan. This defect causes the engine to freeze and owner must replace the engine. My vehicle only had 50k miles and I am unable to drive it. I now need a brand new engine and Buick knows about defect but won't issue recall or fix the defect. I was driving on highway when engine shut down.

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Buick Regal. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle repeatedly shut off without warning after multiple attempts. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact's friend opened the vehicle's hood and discovered that the engine was engulfed in flames. The police and fire department were called to the scene and the fire was extinguished. Police and fire reports were filed at the scene, no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. Two months later, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA recall number: 09v116(engine and engine cooling) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer nor the dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving doing almost 50 when it shut off with no warning the steering wheel locked up the brakes were not working. The first time this happened I just let the car coast to a stop, the second time was exactly the same except I put the car in neutral while I still had a good bit of speed and crunk it back up. The car always crank right back up with no problem and drives fine. I've change my fuses and certain lights (low tire, low coolant, check engine)on the dashboard won't go off and I just recently had my car inspected in which it passed.

My name is ryan conrad, I own a 2013 Buick Regal turbo, about 4 months ago I started having electrical issues with my car ( stereo shuts on and off while driving, dash lights flicker ). Thinking my car needed a new battery I had the battery replaced. No problems for about a month. Not long after, the problem came back, except this time the car shut off while driving, causing all electronics to stop working, including the headlights, power steering, and brakes. I drove it to a gm dealer right away. 1 week goes by and I get a call back saying they couldn't re-create the problem. I pick the car up and within one day it stalls again, this time driving at night on the highway. Again I bring it right to the gm dealer. Another week goes by and I get a call saying they replaced the bcm ( body control module ). As I was driving to work this morning, about a month after the repair, the stereo shuts off, soon after the dash lights flicker, and almost right after the dash lights started flickering the car shut off, the doors unlocked, and I lose the power steering and power brake assist causing me to lose control of the vehicle around a sharp turn and nearly crash. I'm honestly afraid to drive this car now, and I'm not the only one who has had this happen to them. I spent a good 2 hours reading peoples stories online about how they had the same exact experience and how they are also afraid to drive this car. The dealership is unable to fix my car and now I'm stuck with a car that is worth less than what I owe on it, a car I have to worry about driving, a car I'm afraid to have passengers in due to this major safety issue. If an accident occurred as a result of this malfunction I would imagine the malfunction would prevent the airbags from deploying. Before I bought this 2013 Buick Regal I was driving a 1992 Ford f-150, and its sad to say I felt a lot safer in an antique truck.

The morning of Dec 8 I was pulling into my job parking lot and the engine shut off 3 times. After work on the way home I noted a rough idle. I pulled into a gas station and it shut off again. I was about 100 yards from my gm dealership so I parked it there for service/repair the next day. I was called on the 10th and was told it was the timing chain and this repair would cost approx. $2200. I was then told on the 12th that the timing sprocket and cam shaft would have to be replaced adding cost to this poor material or poor workmanship. I remember a recall on a engine earlier in the year that I thought the dealership repaired which I believe was something involved with the cam shaft but I know they had to go into the engine. This shutting off while the vehicle is in operation really scared me and the cam shaft, cam shaft sprocket and timing chain should have been made of a better material, a stronger material. $2000 spent earlier plus the $2200 estimated no I could have purchased an engine for $4200. My vehicle is currently at burns Chevrolet being repaired since Dec 8th. This is a real safety issue that should be looked into.

Vehicle has 69,579 miles. While turning onto side street off of main road, engine shut off causing loss of power steering and brakes. Vehicle was able to be restarted after a minute and driven home. Vehicle was taken to lester glenn Buick dealership for this problem . The dealership was "unable to duplicate the problem" and there were no codes showing a problem. I was told that the issue was that the vehicle was 100 miles overdue for and oil change and was a little low on oil. When I questioned this I was told it is a "safety feature" to protect the engine from damage because of low oil. I asked if it was a "safety feature" than why was my son able to restart the vehicle within a minute. Still have not received an answer. I have made numerous calls to g m about this issue but all I have gotten were two calls to my house phone when I was not home when I specifically left my cell phone number to be called. I have called an additional three times and left a message for a senior adjuster to call me back and still have not received a response. As luck would have it, I own two 2011 Buick Regals and my daughters car is experiencing the same issues, but that will be listed as another complaint . Appears to be multiple issues on the internet with this same concern, but nothing seems to get done.
Last nite, 9:30 pm we came out of publix parking lot doing an easy left. The engine shut off, all lights lit up on dash and center console lit up saying "lower driver window. . " followed by "lower passenger window"!! we coasted to side of road, put it in park then it started and we got home. This morning, a easy right onto highway and locks opened and closed by themselves at about 30 mph! during the hwy drive, at 75mph car stutters, engine whines then catches itself, all dash lights come on and the engine light blinks 3 times then goes out! what the *. . Could have died!.
The contact owns a 2011 Buick Regal. While driving and while stationary, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart successfully. Later, when backing out of a parking space at 2 mph, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000. The VIN was not available.
While stationary and in motion on highway and on city streets when the turn signal isturned on the vehicle shuts off, and when attempting to restart vehicle with turn signals off the electronics flash as if they are connected to flasher relay.
Vehicle was being driven off of main highway into a shopping center parking lot when the engine shut off causing the vehicle to lose power steering and brakes. Vehicle would not restart and needed to be towed to lester glenn Buick that night. The next day after sitting in the dealership parking lot, the vehicle was able to start and the dealership stated they were"unable to duplicate the problem" and found nothing wrong with the vehicle. I presently own two(2) 2011 Buick Regal and both have experienced this same problem with loss of steering and braking. I have contacted g m numerous times and have received no calls back from their "senior " adviser. Have also read about similar complaints on the internet with these vehicles. Hopefully g m will address this serious safety issue before someone gets seriously hurt.
While driving the car, it stalled and cut off while in the midst of making a right hand turn. All power was on temporarily but the engine was unable to turn over after cutting out. The dealership is unable to diagnose the issue, and apparently the issue has occurred before to the previous owner. The car is still under a 5 year 100,000 powertrain warranty. It appears no proper diagnosis has occurred and this issue has been occurring on the car since approx. 52,000 miles current millage is 75,900. I have referenced previous TSB NHTSA id 10037218 to the dealership and have received no response as of yet as to the underlying issue. I have discovered other owners having similar issues on websites such as carcomplaints. Com and various Buick Regal forums. This appears to me as a major safety issue as when the car shuts off it does not power back on, and it cuts seemingly randomly.
