Buick safety recall 07035 on 1998 Buick Regal. Consumer states that he asked for reimbursement for expenses related to correcting the safety defect but was refused. The consumer stated the vehicle smoked and had an odor. The consumer stated the recall indicated a new front rocker cover gasket would be installed with an improved design and replace the spark plug wire channel with new retainers. Gm sent the consumer a denial letter that stated 1 of 3 reasons why he was denied. The consumer was informed the valve cover gasket was leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold. The consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer and informed them that he had the valve cover gaskets replaced. They told him the gaskets used were not the correct ones and the brackets were not changed. So, the dealer went ahead and replaced the gaskets.

44 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 03/14/2009

My car is overheating and leaking excessive dexcool from the intake manifold gaskets and coolant elbow. Westlund Buick GMC, Buick, pontiac in seattle, wa has diagnosed the intake manifold gaskets and the coolant elbow have gone bad. A customer service representative at Buick customer service has informed me that there is a VIN specific recall on this issue. Buick customer service has verified my VIN is not part of that recall but I feel that my vehicle should be included since it is the same make, model, and year of other vehicles included in the recall.

45 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/07/2009

In Dec. 2008, I had my oil changed and I noticed several week later that oil was leaking on my garage floor. I then took my car to have it checked for the oil leak. My mechanic informed me that it was a problem with the "intake manifold" which had a bad design and it was also causing coolant to leak into the oil. I immediately checked to see if there were any recalls on my vehicle, and there were. However, when I called the "Buick" home office I was told that there were no recalls on my vehicle. The information which I collected stated that letters were mailed out for 1997-2000 models on April 28,2008. It also stated that gm will advise when letters for the 2001-2003 models will be mailed. The problem is getting worse and I am afraid that this problem may cause my car to catch fire.

46 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

The contact owns a 1996 Buick Regal. The contact noticed that the vehicle sporadically experienced a no-start condition. There was also a backfire that occurred when the vehicle was started. The upper intake manifold failed prior to the upper intake manifold. The dealer stated that his VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 96v116000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system). The contact would not assume responsibility for the repair. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 78,117. Updated 02/05/09. Coolant was found in the oil when repairs were made on the manifold. Updated 02/10/09.

47 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1997 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

3. 8 liter supercharged engine coolant leak - lower intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant. I have read about the recall or class action suit about the coolant leaks on 3. 8 liter engines that are not supercharged. I would like to know why they never included superchared engines. I have a 1997 Buick Regal and a 2001 pontiac grand prix that were both at a gm dealership and they have this problem and it needs to be fixed.

48 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/11/2008

The contact owns a 1998 Buick Regal. The contact noticed oil leaking from the front valve cover gasket onto the exhaust manifold. The failure previously caused the vehicle to catch fire. Gm recall number 90047 and NHTSA campaign id number 09v116000 will not correct the failure. The contact will take the vehicle in for repair. The failure mileage was 140,000.

49 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 03/27/2008

Dealer says lower intake manifold leaking. Repaired at 61,549 mi. Dealer says lower intake coolant bypass is leaking, as is, the valve cover gaskets. Claims there have been engine fires and that gm has a recall ,but not a remedy for the problem, as of yet. Repaired gaskets at 78,892 mi. , total cost for both 1,600. 00. 1. One would think after building cars for 50 yrs. That a head gasket could last 200,000 mi. 2. My gasket lasted 17,000 miles between repairs. The leaking gaskets are a direct cause of the engine fires. The oil leaks down on top of the exhaust manifold and bingo, "fire". They say they have to come up with a better heat shield "duh". I bought the car based on consumer reports. I've had other problems too. I just wonder if gm will step up and reimburse me.

50 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 11/10/2007

My vehicle caught fire in November 2007, the fire was started in the engine on the manifold. The fire dept responded to the fire and called the vehicle a total loss. A fire report was written at that time as to the events leading to the fire etc. The vehicle was towed to a local salvage yard and scraped for metal. I only had liability insurance so the vehicle was not covered. The vehicle was burnt so badly that I had to get it off the street directly after that,March 2008 I received a safety recall stating if I had 98 Buick Regal GS that it wasn't safe to drive because the engines were catching fire due to faulty gaskets on the manifold. I called gm and told them that had happened to my vehicle and asked if they would be responsible? gm told me to send them the fire report and a letter stating who towed the burnt car and where it went so I did what they asked. Once gm got the fire report proving that is where the fire started then they told me they needed pics of the burnt engine which they knew I couldn't provide because I no longer have the car and at the time it burnt I wasn't aware of the recall so I didn't take pics or save the car for viewing. Gm isn't going to compensate me for my loss and its their fault. The fire report proves their recall is why I no longer have a car. Please help me!.

51 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 09/25/2007

2000 Buick Regal destroyed in a fire. Consumer is requesting reimbursement for the cost of replacing the vehicle that was destroyed in the fire. The consumer stated the fire started as a result of oil spilling on the exhaust manifold from the rocker cover gasket. The consumer received a recall notice regarding the problem in April 2008.

52 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 09/01/2007

My sister bought new the 1998 Buick Regal; in 2002 she died and willed her car to me. It has been a great car except: in sept. 2007, after a short drive, I parked the car in open driveway, and walked to house; minutes later my husband, nearby, saw smoke coming from under the hood. He opened it and poured water to extinguish the visible fire on the manifold. It took over a month for the nearest mechanic - we live in a rural area an hour from the nearest reputable Buick dealer - to repair. He had to try everything because it was not apparent why the fire started (replaced spark plugs and wires that were burned, changed coolant just in case, checked everything, etc). Then in April I received the recall notice from Buick stating exactly this problem. I did what they said: sent in all receipts for reimbursement, asking for the cost of repairs only totaling $677. Meanwhile, I also went to the dealer 1 hour away and they replaced the faulty gasket. Now they say they will give me $300 max (saying that some statue of limitations has run out and they are only doing this as a courtesy, not an obligation). I am wondering if I have any other recourse to getting the full compensation, as they had promised in the recall notice. As I see from others on your website, the fire could have been far worse, and it also could have happened again. Doesn't gm take a little more responsibility for endangering people's lives, than a mere $300? awaiting your reply. Gloria mclean, andes, NY.

53 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2000 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 04/26/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Buick Regal. On April 26, 2007 the contact took the car to a Ford dealer because the battery failed without warning. The dealer stated that the engine cooling leaked at the manifold gasket and mixed with oil. The current and failure mileages were 70,280. Updated 06/06/07.

54 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 06/12/2006

I have a 1999 Buick Regal in which the intake manifold is leaking. This is not new and recalls have been issued by gm for park avenue cars with similar 3. 8 l engines. The car was fine until one day all of a sudden, the service engine light along with low coolant, trac off and hot temp lights came on. The gm dealer estimates the cost to be around $700+ and thinks that because of that the gasket may have been corroded.

55 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/13/2006

Cracked intake manifold (plastic) resulting in $700 repair bill. This part should not have been plastic - cannot withstand pressures!.

56 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/29/2005

Complaint received via e-mail. Intake manifold was causing leakage of the antifreeze that eventually leaked out the exhaust pipe. This led to other repairs that needed to be fixed.

57 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 11/06/2004

Vehicle would not start, it was towed to repair shop sat for about 24 hours, when trying to start it the intake manifold exploded.

58 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

The plastic intake manifold melted between egr port and water jacket. This allowed coolant to flood the motor. Three weeks after this $1200 repair I spun a rod bearing probably. $2700 later.

59 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 08/14/2004

While attempting to start the vehicle the consumer heard an explosion. A hole was discovered blown through the intake manifold and a crack was discovered a crack in the dust cover. The consumer requested reibursement.

60 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 07/31/2004

On July 31, 2004 I attempted to start my 1999 Buick Regal for the first time that day and immediately noticed a tapping noise coming from under the hood along with a foul odor that did not smell like antifreeze. The low coolant light on, though I had just flushed and refilled the radiator just 3 months before. While attempting to get the car to the repair shop, it died and would not start again. I was later informed that a defect common to this engine had caused the problem; the upper intake manifold is made of plastic and had broke, allowing coolant to enter the engine. Just to replace the manifold is going to cost me $652. And the extent of the engine damage can only be determined afterwards. I do not understand how the manufacturer could build such an expensive, supposedly "luxury" vehicle with such a cheap part that they know will eventually fail without warning and end the life of the vehicle or require very high repair bills. It is just their deceptive way of making their vehicles disposable and ripping off the consumer. This is the 3rd Buick I have owned and I've always praised the Buick name, but they've just lost a customer!! something should be done about their deceptive manufacturing practices.

61 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

Vehicle's plastic intake manifold warped from heat of the engine.

62 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/11/2004

My 1996 Buick Regal has had two intake manifold gasket failures--one at 52,000 miles, and the most recent, at 111,000 miles. In the first instance, the local Buick dealership refunded half my money of the cost of the $607 repairs because they agreed that it was highly unusual for a gasket to fail at such low mileage. My son, who did the most recent repai andr is a materials science engineer, inspected the most recent failure and found several places on the gasket where it was deformed and had let antifreeze escape. His opinion was that it was badly designed, with inferior materials.

63 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

Other - oil leak - have been told by independent repair shops that it is either the cam shaft timing sencer or manifold with the cost ranging from $700. 00 to $1200. 00. Also the motor mounts need to be replaced. Tape player does not eject tape properly, been a problem since I got the car. Brakes - have had complete brakes replaced. Have been told Buick Regals are bad on brakes. Air conditionung cooling coil in front of raditor has developed a leak. Estimated cost to repair is $400. 00. Have not taken it to dealer. I got the car used in 1997 with about 72500 miles on it.

64 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

65 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 02/05/2003

: the contact stated the antifreeze was vanishing under normal road conditions. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who determined the manifold warped allowing the antifreeze to enter into the engine. The same problem occurred three years ago. Updated 12/05/06.

66 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 01/20/2003

My car's radiator cooling light came on, and I discovered that the overflow tank was empty. Since it was zero degrees out, I was afraid the engine would freeze. My local repair shop found the upper manifold leaking and charged me over $900 to replace it and refill the cooling system. I now discover that this was in two previous mfg bulletins. Buick refuses to reimburse me saying I had to drive it to their dealer (a distance away). I feel this is unfair. It is a defect that I discovered they have rectified in recent models.

67 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 12/27/2002

On December 27, 2002 and December 30, 2002. I took my vehicle to jeffrey Buick 30800 gratiot Ave roseville, michigan 48066 on 12/27/02 because my car would not keep antifreeze in the reservoir (possible coolant leak) and the dashboard low coolant and service engine soon (ses) light was on. The car was missing and backfiring during engine start up and was almost stalling while driving. I took the car into the shop and told the service sales advisor kenneth hope what was the problem. It was diagnosed as a spark plug problem and secondary ignition wire. I approve for them to do the repairs. On December 30, 2002 I was back at jeffrey Buick service for the same problem, low coolant/service engine light (ses) and antifreeze reservoir not keeping coolant. On December 31, 2002 service sales advisor jon pingel stated that the problem was due to the engine burning coolant, and that the upper plastic intake manifold/intake gasket. R&r 3. 8. K had to be replaced. I came into the shop and asked him what had caused the problem. He stated to me that this is an on going problem, a manufacture defected with the Buick Regal were that the hose will melt and let coolant into the engine compartment, he also indicated that he receives between five to ten Buick Regals a week with the same problem. I asked if there had been a recall for this problem and he stated no. He then stated that if the problem is not repaired it could lead to the engine locking up or a possible engine fire. He stated that I could contact the general motors customer relations department and make a complaint and see if they would reimburse me the cost of the repair $771. 81. I called the gm customer relations department there was nothing that could be done. Consumers of the Buick Regal must know of the possible dangers involved with the engine/coolant problem and be reimbursed for repairs done. If you can please investigate this before someone dies like in the firestone tires incident.

68 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/29/2002

Plastic connection hose of oil filter to manifold on motor block broke off. Consumer took vehicle into dealer, and they fixed the hose.

69 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 05/18/2002

The vehicle experienced an oil leak at the intake manifold, the engine also developed rod bearing and/or wrist pin noise. Nlm.

70 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1996 Buick Regal

Failure Date: 11/17/2001

Anti freeze leaked inside the engine due to faulty intake manifold gaskets which were made of plastic. This happened frequently, even after antifreeze was refilled. Fumes from the antifreeze oil mixture were entering the cabin of the vehicle from the engine.
