We have a Buick Rendezvous. The car's interior lights go off without warning, and it becomes impossible to see dashboard lights, including speedometer, at night. Other times, horn will start blaring for several minutes with no warning. . . Almost caused an accident yesterday. . . It startles anyone around. Now, when we turn off the car, the headlights won't go off at all, no matter what we try. Will have a dead battery next time we go to drive the car (tomorrow morning).

Starting sometime at the end of October 2007 into November of 2007 my 2002 Buick Rendezvous started having starting problems associated with the security system. Vehicle would intermittently not would be hard to start or not start at all. If jumped off the alarm system would go off. Sometimes the radio would not come on, a/c would not come on, lights would flash, etc. In late November the vehicle finally went haywire and started blowing the horn, lights blinking and lights not going off after vehicle was turned off. Disconnected battery repeatedly to reset until that would no longer work. Took it to the dealer to have it checked. Was told it was the bcm. Had bcm replaced and reprogrammed. On March 14, 2008, vehicle started doing the same things that lead up to this part being replaced. Am taking it in again this week if I can keep it started. Doing this complaint because after reading various internet blogs, forums and chats this problem seems to be a recurring problem for many 2002 Buick Rendezvous'.
- the contact owns a 2003 Buick Rendezvous. The horn will not engage unless the contact pressed the icon. This incident has been reported to general motors, and that was an engineering defect that was related to the placement of the air bag in the steering wheel. The dealer was unable to fix the horn. Updated 02/22/07.
2004 Buick Rendezvous - extremely unreliable horn (design flaw). I have narrowly escaped many accidents by sheer luck. Have had people backing into me & been unable to honk the horn because I could not find the very limited "sweet spot. " when the steering wheel is turned even slightly, it is impossible to find!.

2005 Buick Rendezvous. The horn is difficult and almost impossible to blow. The area is sensitive and the amount of pressure is excessive. The consumer spoke to the dealer and manufacturer, and their position was if the horn works they have no specification on how limited the area is or how excessive the pressure is to blow the horn. The owners manual states press near the horn symbol on the steering wheel and the horn will sound. One inch from the horn symbol is dead area. If not driving straight ahead consumer does not know where the horn symbol is. In an emergency situation this could cause an accident.

My 2004 Buick Rendezvous has been in the shop 8 times in 10 1/2 months. Currently I am experiencing a loud noise (much like an air raid horn) while I am stopped in traffic and when I turn my vehicle off. It started back in April, the dealership could not recreate the noise, in the shop again 11/4/05 and again 11/11/05. I just do not feel safe in the car. I it is getting progressively worse, louder and more frequent, lasting longer. I purchased my vehicle 17 Dec 04 and the very next day had a break problem. My service record is as follows: 1) 12/20/04- abs light on - all wheel drive disabled 2) 01/27/05 - abs light on - all wheel drive disabled 3) 4/25/05 - abs light on all wheel drive disabled would not drive over 40 mph - 3) 4/25/05 - passenger side mirror clicking when vehicle is put into reverse 3) 4/25/05 vehicle makes a loud air horn noise when vehicle is turned off 4) 5-19/05 - abs light on - all wheel drive disabled 4) 5/19/05 - vehicle looses power when making left turns or on incline 4) 5/16/05 installed rear lift gate latch 5) 7/15/05 driver side mirror glass came loose 6) 9/01/05 - drivers side power window inoperative- 7) 11/4/05 - very loud acceleration - exhaust manifold leaking right exhaust manifold 7) 11/4/05 loud noise while driving vehicle, stopping in traffic and when vehicle is turned off 8) 11/11/05 wobble in left front tire- reface front rotors out of round 8) 11/11/05 took vehicle in for the loud air horn noise while driving, stopping in traffic and turning vehicle off - had a 5 minute discussion with service person about this and it did not even make it on the invoice.
The dashboard failed to illuminate. This caused poor visibility for the driver to see properly. Driver took vehicle to dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the dashboard panel needed to be replaced. During the day the instrument panel does not light up and as a result it is hard for the consumer to see the speedometer, rpm's, etc. The horn can not be sounded by extending thumb from steering wheel. The consumer has to remove one hand from the steering wheel and press it firmly in the center of the steering wheel to activate the horn.
The starter and horn did not always work. Thermostat and fuel gauge was not accurate. There had previously been a problem with the ignition switch and it was repaired due to a recall. The problem with the starter started in March of 2005. These problems have not been repaired as of yet. When the consumer took the vehicle it to the dealership they told her it was designed that way.
Various electrical problems. Horn only works some of the time. Sometimes engine will not crank only the warning lights come on but no engine crank. Various chimes for delayed door locking etc. Do not work. Special programmed features do not work such as removing the key from ignition should open locked doors. Bcm has been replaced but problems persist. Dealer states they cannot recreate problems while in service. No events lead up to failures, just started to occur.
When driving 55 mph rear right tire blewout. This caused the consumer to pull of the road and change the tire. Consumer stated that the tire looked like it just melted ,and there were no objects and the road. This was a firestone tire. The consumer noticed that the passenger side front floor mat was wet. The technician determined that the a/c evaporator drain was clogged due to leaves coming from the windshield cowling. The dealer cleaned the drain and removed the leaves. The left front hub and bearing had excessive play and were noisy. The check engine light illuminated. The trouble codes indicated that the gas cap may have been loose. The vehicle body control module (bcm) failed and had to be replaced. It caused the security lights to remain on, the a/c not to work and at night the horn would sound when the vehicle was off. After the consumer locked the door the vehicle radio would come on. This caused the battery to drain and as a result the vehicle had to be jump started.
The consumer stated the horn would blow and the radio would come on for no reason. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection; however the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. The consumer had taken the vehicle to another dealer and they fixed the module the same day. There has been no other problem. Currently the vehicle is in security mode. The consumer was unable to open the windows and the rear doors. The consumer noticed the floor mats were discolored , it was determined that the air condition system had malfunctioned. There was a screeching noise in the steering column, but no problem was found. The left front hub and bearing was replaced the brakes were replaced.
I have had so many problems with my Rendezvous I feel like the dealership has had my car more than I have. For starters, the front and rear hub failed four times, with the fourth one still needing to be repaired and gm refusing to address the problem because of the number of miles on the car, the check engine light stays on intermittently, the rear wiper stays on and I had to remove the fuse, I have replaced the tires three times with no explaination on the uneven excessive wear, the power steering pump makes loud whining noise and leaks power steering fluid with no explaination, windshield wipers catch on each other and I have on numerous occassions had to stop the car, get out and untangle them, however, the dealer cannot duplicate the problem, the rear air compressor still does not work after being repaired twice, fuses blow for no reason.
2001 Buick regal and 2003 Buick Rendezvous, the horns are impossible to sound in a panic or emergency situation. Complaints have been made to the dealer and manufacturer to no avail.
The horn is very hard to operate during an emergency. The horn has to be pressed forcibly in the center in order to operate properly. Dealer has examined the vehicle twice for this problem.
While pressing down on the horn, it failed. The dealer had inspected the vehicle several times and could not duplicate the problem.
