Suspension Problems of Cadillac CTS - part 1

My 2013 has only 75k miles on it and all the dash lights flash and the car fails every couple of days. It has a brand new battery but the gauges on the dash continue to dance. I’m not sure what the problem is but it’s a huge safety factor in drivability.

My dream car…2017 Cadillac Cts 3. 6l prem. Lux. I’ve noticed a lot of complaints with very low miles under 30,000 service suspension system, car has new perelli tires 19” and the driver front tire went flat. What’s going on, I don’t want the dealer to take advantage of me. I can’t understand why this vehicle would be giving me problems so soon purchased from calstar mercedes dealer on [xxx] of 2023. The contact owns a 2009 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was swaying to the left or the far right without the contact moving the steering wheel. The contact stated that while driving at slower speeds, the vehicle was easier to control. The contact stated the traction control, tpms, service brake assist, air bags, and service stabili-trak warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The contact became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 11v089000 (suspension) and called the NHTSA hotline to see if the VIN was included. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The 2014-2015 Cts-v model has a safety recall for the exact same safety problem (differential) my 2014 Cts is experiencing. Why is the v series only included in the recall when other 2014-2015 Cts's have the same issues?.

A combination of the lower control arm alignment adjustment bolt, it is just a slot and standard bolt. The alignment becomes loose over time and begins to work side to side in the slot, so retightening the bolt is the only solution to keep it from moving. The main issue is the subframe being made from aluminum and the machined slots for the lower arms, the "ears" for the lower arms are not machined or reenforced correctly which lead to severe fatigue cracks in the machined radius of the subframe. These cracks will cause the lower control arm to break free of the mounts and causing the front suspension to shift to the left or right and causing a crash. All it will take to break them off is a large enough bump and this will kill or injure someone.

Driving out of a driveway with a slight slope, my traction engaged. It has done this 3-4 times in perfect driving weather and I had not swerved or experienced any issue prior to the light illuminated "traction engaged". It is pretty noisy under my car as well and the ride is not smooth and rather bumpy. It has engaged just backing up in a parking lot.

I am writing regarding a recent incident regarding the left front control arm of our 2004 Cts Cadillac. There was a recall for the lower control arm ball nut/washer attaching the control arm, which could lead to disengagement of the control arm, disengagement of the wheel and tire, and possible crash. We purchased the car in 2015. The Cadillac service center in beverly hills confirmed that they have records showing the car was inspected, and the recalled piece replaced in 2006. The dealer at that time was named martin Cadillac. The night of [xxx], my son was driving the Cts on the freeway at about 50 mph, when the front left tire and wheel suddenly twisted out of place and rendered the car undrivable. Fortunately, he was not injured or worse, but he was stranded in the middle of a busy freeway for more than 30 minutes until aaa arrived. The car was then towed to our home and towed to our mechanic the following day. The repair needed and done was to replace the left front control arm, precisely the area noted in the recall notice. Also, it was necessary to repair the undercarriage that was damaged by the dislocated wheel and tire. The left front fender was also damaged by the action of the detached tire and wheel. The total repair cost we paid was $793. 13 for the control arm and undercarriage. We are not currently driving the car, as we are concerned that the car is still unsafe. Well I am uncertain but we have two 2006 Cadillac Cts and both have had multiple transmissions replaced. Multiple differential problems and air bag and wireing problems.

Found a crack along the tab of my subframe along the rear control arm pocket. Searching for solutions and repairs, I found several hundred people who broke the tab while driving on Ctsvowners, Ctsvforum and various facebook groups this seems to impact both the base model and v series Cts.

Rear differential failed @ 44,600 miles. Dealer said car was unsafe to drive. Dealer unable to obtain replacement after 30 days. Internet search shows this to be a known issue.

At the moment, the vehicle is releasing a strong order smells like burning oil or gasoline. It’s coming from the rear of the vehicle. You can smell it immediately when you step out and in the car. The rear is making a loud cranking noise and starting to shake. It appears based on the information that it’s a huge possibility it’s my rear differential going out. It posses a threat due to the anticipation of the brakes locking and causing a serious accident to my family or other on the road. Ive taken very good care if the vehicle and done all the required maintenance on the vehicle. Went though gm motors repair shops.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced, and the rear differential was leaking. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The water pump was replaced under the warranty. The contact stated that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced every two months. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

The sub frame has a crack where it connects with the control arm I posted a picture in the forum group for Cadillac owners of the same vehicle and over 20 owners I’ve counted have the same crack in the same location it has unfortunately failed for some members already. I fear that this was an engineering flaw that needs to be taken care of or examined before some one can get seriously hurt or lose there life by having the sub frame fail causing the control arm of the front wheel to fall off I have multiple pictures of separate vehicles that have the same crack and even one that fully broke apart at the same location. Please take a look at this as this I fear could break at any time and I fear many Cadillacs are driving around with this same engineering flaw.

Rear carrier assembly is making grinding noise. Mechanic says that driving car could be life threatening. Gm and Cadillac dealership has no parts. So car is useless. The car has 56,000 miles. There should be a recall and remedy for this model, 2014 Cadillac 3. 6l Cts. Especially when the v version of this car already has a recall. Gm should be held accountable for this design flaw.

The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the differential was not properly lubricated; and informed him not to drive the vehicle. The parts to repair the vehicle was on back order. The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Rear differential has given out this is the second one so far there should be a recall on these models. 4 door base model sedan. 2. 0.

2014 Cadillac Cts rear differential with 55,000 miles started to make a wobbling noise going past 10 mph. Went to third party mechanic and was shown metal shavings coming from rear end.

I was driving and it started rattling and getting very bumpy. I exited the freeway and came to a stop. The vehicle would no longer move. I had it towed to my mechanic. The right front axle broke. He replaced it and drove it around the block for a test drive. It was very loud and turning tight when the left axle broke. It has been diagnosed with a bad differential. Everyone I have spoke with at multiple Cadillac dealerships, including someone at a dealership over 30 years, have said they never seen this type of problem and especially on such a newer vehicle with only 84,000 miles. It was a very dangerous situation and if it never happens why did it happen to mine? I’m thinking something is faulty in the differential etc.

Our mechanic told us that the differential is making a grinding sound and he add differential fluid, but said the problem would only get worse. The car only has 62k miles on it and it is very expensive to have the differential replace/repaired. I feel that this is a defect of the car and should be recalled by Cadillac to have the differential replaced. For the differential to go bad at 60k miles is unacceptable and is terrible reliability.

I cannot get my vehicle repaired in the aloted time due to parts not being on hand according to the dealership.

Engine sounds like a truck, while driving. Just purchased the vehicle. 30,000 miles on odometer.

My rear differential sys is making a loud grinning noise, I contacted Cadillac customer service 04/28/20, to see if it under recall status and I was advised it was not. I have researched that this is a very common problem for the 2014 Cts. I have 98139 on my Cadillac and I don't think I should have problems like this. That loud grinning and whining sound is very annoying and embarrassing. I thought it was my brakes at first however I took it to a mechanic and was advised my rear differential system is causing the winning and grinning sound.

The contact had experienced a failure with the indicator lights flashing everytime the contact starts the vehicle. One time the vehicle was struck in gear at 40 mph and would not accellerate any faster. The issue stopped occuring later on when the vehicle was driven home. The VIN tool confirms parts no available. A howling noise emerging from the rear of the vehicle rear end diferential internal bearing failure and metal debri no consequence, vehicle repaired by the dealer under warranty the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph a howling noise emerging from the rear of the vehicle started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer parkway Cadillac valencia, 24055 creekside rd, santa clarita, CA 91355, they determined that the rear end differential bearing failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,053. Bp.

The contact had stated that prior to knowing about the recall, his service rear axle warning light had illuminated intermittently. The contact called Cadillac of bellevue 600 116th Ave ne, bellevue, wa 98004 where he was informed that the parts are not available for the recall. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. When im going forward or reversing the car automatically slams on park brake.

The vehicle was taken to Cadillac norwood at 700 boston providence hwy, norwood, MA 02062 where they diagnosed the supporting bearing needs to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired however, the contact mentioned that few days later while driving the engine over heated. Per report tje suspension system and aorbag recall. When I purchased vehicle, information was warrant to me. I total loss my car due to suspension and axle malfuntion. It caused me to hit a curb. I could not gain control.

When I turn the wheels left or right either going forward or backward, there is a hitting noise that feels like the front tires will come out of the accel and this happen while in motion on city streets ,it would be more dangerous if it is on high way.

My differential locked up , even after the recall for the pinion seal was completed. My vehicle lost control on the highway.

I have or had a 2004 Cadillac Cts-v. It had given me some problems with turning. Several times when I made turns onto another street or even when I took an on ramp onto an interstate, I have lost control of my car. It seems to loose traction, like the traction control got turned off (which it hadn't) and began drifting/swerving on the road which has almost caused an accident several times, until finally it did. Thanksgiving of 2017 it finally did cause an accident and a death of one of my friends. I was taking a left turn one night on the way to drop off some friends when my vehicle kept turning, like it swung out, and hit a pole, causing severe damage to the car and taking the life of one of my passengers that night.
