Side/window Air Bag problems of the 1998 Cadillac Deville

: the contact stated when the passenger side door was shut, the passenger side airbag deployed. The vehicle was driven away from the scene and has not been seen by a mechanic. The consumer was quoted a price of over 10000 dollars. Updated 03/09/06.

The contact stated on 10-17-05 was driving when she heard a noise that sounded like a something scraped the bottom of the car. Immediately the driver's side and passenger's side air bags deployed. There were two people in the front seat of the car. No one was seriously injured. The dealer said there had been a problem in the past, but not the front. He also, said the sensors were probably bad. She did not recall an air bag light illuminating in the car prior to this incident.

The consumer was on the driveway of personal residence with all seat belts secured when both the driver/passenger side airbags deployed. There was a loud explosion. The engine shut down, there were no power features working, and the horn was blowing continuously. The dashboard was blown up from the force of the airbags and the front windshield was severely smashed from the force of the dashboard. The consumer was driving and his arms were burned from the airbag on the driver side, consumers his wife hit her head on the passenger side window. (consumers wife suffered from a temporary hearing loss in left ear, and neck pain/headaches).

Vehicle hydroplaned off wet highway into trees; driver killed upon inpact (left side & front) when neither front nor side air bags deployed, recall k00066-s/NHTSA campaign id 00v217000.

Front driver's side and passenger side airbags deployed while driving without prior warning. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Recall 00v217000; consumer received recall letter last October, and has been in contact with dealer since then. Dealer kept telling consumer that parts were not available yet. Consumer has also contacted manufacturer, only to be told when his turn comes they would contact him. Side air bag sensor defective. Replacements still not available since received recall notice.

Owner seated in passenger seat. Side air bag deployed owner suffered a deep arm bruise. Gm has been calling offering to refurnish/trade a new Deville.

While driving in the neighborhood came to a complete stop. Upon pulling out onto the road driver side airbag deployed. Was not hit by anything. Contacted dealer, and had the vehicle towed.

Drivers side door airbag experienced false deployment while driving. Nlm.

Front passenger side air bag deployed for no apparent reason. Yh (false deployment).

Within 30 miles of service airbag light coming on the drivers side {door} air bag discharged pushing the driver side ways, although held in place by seat belt system. Resulting injuries are still undergoing therapy/evaluation. Lack of response from Cadillac to diagnose cause now exceeds 5 months.

Passenger's side airbag deployed although there was no impact.

In August 2000, a recall was issued for the driver-side air bag on 1998 Cadillac Deville. I have not been contacted by Cadillac, and the dealer says they do not have any parts. Has the recall been canceled?.

Cadillac issued a safety recall for 1998 & 1999 sedan Devilles in sept. 2000 relating to the possible unintended activiation of the driver's and passenger side air bags and the risk of injury or death as a result. I purchased a '98 sedan Deville on oct. 6, 2000 and the ettleson Cadillac salesman at no time told me the vehicle was subject to a safety recall and that we might be in danger driving the car. Until the sensor modules were replaced. I drove 1,200 miles back to colorado and did not learn of the danger until two weeks later through articles in the new york times and wall street journal. When I wrote the salesman asking why he did not warn me he declared--hard to believe--that he was unaware of any safety recall. (I would not have bought the car in that condition, of course, and he probably realized that. ) when I wrote ettleson's general manager, larry smolinski, to complain about his dealership selling a defective vehicle without warning me of the possible danger, smolinski did not bother to reply to my letter. How would a government agency respond if walmart were to sell toasters that were a known fire hazard and not even warn its customers? if a recall were ordered for a dangerous toy could toys r us continue to sell it? this dealership should be reprimanded by your agency for this dangerous practice.

The consumer is unhappy with recall 00v-217 because the manufacturer refuses to furnish her with a car to drive until the recall component is repaired. Nlm.

Consumer received recall 00v217 and is requesting that the air bags be disconnected considering they are defective and can't be replaced until 2001.
