While placing the vehicle in neutral, the contact merged onto the emergency lane turned the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic who stated that once the cruise control was disengaged the accelerator pedal released but no diagnostic test was performed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 1998 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the cruise control would not disengage. The brake pedal was then engaged, but the vehicle hesitated and would not stop. After approximately two miles, the cruise control eventually disengaged and the vehicle came to a stop. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 97v183000 (vehicle speed control) that may be related to the failure, but the manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Cadillac Deville. While traveling at speeds of 30 mph, the contact attempted to brake and noticed that the brake pedal was resistant to pressure. The vehicle continued to accelerate and proceeded to crash into the rear of another vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was filed on the scene. My 2000 Cadillac Deville will occasionally accelerate of its own accord. It can happen when on cruise control or when not. The only way to get it to stop accelerating is to put it in neutral and tap the accelerator with your foot. It is quite disturbing and takes some seconds to realize what to do. Fortunately has not happened in close quarters yet, but the stories about the old man who mistakenly put his foot on teh accelerator rather than the brake are bogus. His car did it. This happened also in oct. 2006. The dealer crest Cadillac claimed to never heard of such a thing. They cleaned teh throttle body and only happened a couple times after that and was not a problem until this week. It again happened on the expressway and I was up to 85 mph before I regained control.

Then touched "resume" on the cruise control; throttle opened fully and stuck there. The only way to stop was to turn off the ignition, which I did. Then had no power steering or power brakes, while still in traffic.

2002 Cadillac Deville, driving in cruise control at highway speeds. I touched the brake to slow for traffic. When I put the cruise control in "resume" the throttle stuck completely open. I was not able to control the car, other than (eventually) turn off the ignition.

The cruise was engaged and the car accelerated. Tapping brake and manually shutting off cruise control switch did not slow it down. Nar the idle air control was occasionally inoperable.

While driving with the cruise engaged the car suddenly accelerated twice. Tapping brake and manually shutting off cruise control did not slow the car down. The consumer had to brake hard, put the vehicle in park and shut off the engine to get the vehicle to stop. Upon restarting the vehicle it ran [properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem. It was later determined that the iac motor was the cause of the failure.

Problems with 1998 Cadillac Deville cruise control system. When consumer applied while vehicle was in cruise control, it didn't disengage. Consumer switched cruise control off, but it still failed to disengage. Thus turning off the engine. Consumer then restarted the vehicle and without warning accelerated on its own.

While coming to a stop, the cruise control would not disengage. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined.

When traveling about 20mph the cruise control would activate by itself. Owner lost control of vehicle and hit cement flower urn. Manufacturer sent inspector to look at vehicle. Nothing was found.

While traveling the engine started to idle without indications. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.
