Power Train Problems of Cadillac Escalade - part 2

My wife was driving this vehicle home after dropping off kids at school when the engine suddenly stalled in the middle of the road. Luckily no one was directly behind her or she would have been in a collision. After being towed to the dealership, they informed us the engine "failed". There was no check engine light or warning message prior to the engine suffering sudden and catastrophic failure. Vehicle has less than 28k miles. The car is currently at the dealer with no time frame for repair because the engine is on "back-order".

We were traveling on a highway trip, approximately 71 miles from home the engine made a brief grinding noise and then with in about 2 seconds the engine completely shut down and stopped running. After having the vehicle towed back to my Cadillac dealer, the dealer determined that the engine was completely damaged by an "outsourced" defective crankshaft installed in the initial engine installation. The dealer has had my vehicle for exactly 1 month and says it is waiting for a new engine with no idea when they will receive the new replacement. I need my vehicle.

I purchased my vehicle a little over a year ago and have had multiple engine repairs. The first issue started with the lifters going out. Shortly after the lifters were repaired, the engine seized, causing us to get an engine replacement. A few days after having the new engine, we had the same knocking/ticking noise coming from the engine which was also repaired once again. Then yesterday, 3/13/25, the engine started to knock/tick once again, but this time more aggressively. (new engine had only 15,000 miles. ).

The transmission , the vehicle came to a sudden stop while driving, confirmed by a mechanic, no it has not been inspected by insurance or others accident was avoided, no warnings lights, transmission began to jump in gear like a lunge forward. Double checked it and it would not go forward then it would let you reverse only and then it will not go forward or reverse. The vehicle had to be towed. Engine starts fine but can't drive.

I was driving home on the evening of Monday [xxx] in my 2021 Cadillac Escalade. The car began to shake, the yellow engine warning light began flashing, black smoke began pouring out of the exhaust pipes and there was a strong smell of fuel. I was 1/2 mile from my home. I limped the car home, left it in the driveway overnight, and called Cadillac roadside assistance to have the car towed to the Cadillac dealership in boulder, CO the next morning. The dealership's initial diagnosis it a failed lifter and cam. This is a known issue across all gm's 6. 2l engines and is caused by their afm/dfm management system. I am at 69,000 miles, with only 1,000 miles to go on the powertrain warranty (70k). Gm needs to step up and recall these motors. They are saying that they might offer extended component coverage to someone that has had at least 2 failed lifter repairs. This does me no good with only 1,000 miles to go under my 70k powertrain warranty. There are many reports of completely failed engines from this problem on super low mileage vehicles. I dropped my vehicle off for transmission service maintenance with no engine issues and no check engine light. The Cadillac dealer called me the next day and said the check engine light was on and the engine was bad and needed $12,000 repair due to faulty bad designed lifter's and camshaft also stated this is a well know defect in the engine and they have replaced many 6. 2 engines. Vehicle has 59,345 miles and has a 72,000 mile powertrain warranty. I contacted gm and was told no they would not help with the cost. I drove the vehicle home and it would stall out at stop lights the stabilitrack and abs lights came on and it would not go over 35mph. Vehicle is dangerous to drive.

I called dealer and told them that the SUV was making a ticking sound and played them a recording of it. They told me that I could drive it in or call an 800 number and maybe get it towed. I decided to drive it in as towing it would prob take it to a dealer I did not know. There were no lights on indicating an issue. I was stopped waiting to turn left across traffic when the engine started making all kinds of clanging noise. At this point it quit and after a few attempts I got it restarted and towed it in to dealer the engine failure with out warning left me and my family in jeopardy in the roadway. Now I learn that lots of these 6. 2 v8s are blowing up as my dealer alone has several of them out back waiting with no eta on repair parts coming. So not only were we put in pearl but I have 125k in a brick setting at the dealer. And givin a smaller auto that I can not pull trailers with. I feel endangered and ripped off pleasse help.

Complete engine failure while driving. Vehicle is brand new with only 6,700 miles.

Traveling at high speed on major 5 lane highway. The engine shut off vehicle lost power went to neutral on shifter on it’s on would not shift . There was no warning no lights nothing that would have indicated a problem at all. Luckily my husband was able to get over 3 lanes and pull on shoulder which was very difficult and extremely dangerous in traffic. The vehicle would not start back up . There were 3 children and 2 adults in the vehicle at the time it was traveling 70mph and completely shut off we were almost struck by vehicles traveling at 70mph plus when trying to get vehicle to shoulder if we were unable to get this vehicle to shoulder this would have caused a multi vehicle pile up on major highway . We would have lost our lives and possibly others in other vehicles as well. Cadialic roadside assistance is picking up this vehicle and taking it to there closest dealership. This vehicle currently has 19,000 miles.

My vehicle has stalled twice while I was at a stop sign and/or red light. It says there are no recalls for my vehicle but I feel it may be a problem.

Truck goes into limp mode, reduced power, stuck in second gear, stabilitrak and engine lights. Took it to the Cadillac dealership and after 3100 dollars in repairs the truck is still doing it. If the high level techs can’t figure it out after 2000 in labor it’s should be a recall item.

Engine breakdown in middle of the road. Lifter valves failed and had to be taken in for complete engine repair/replacement. Dealership is currently repairing. Was on the interstate driving 75 mph, with my daughter, her friend, my wife. And the car cut off, and dealership said engine locked. 45 minutes prior I was on a snowy mountain road, and this vehicle has 939 miles on it, one month old. Now I am reading about the investigation, and feel this is negligence on GMC. This could have been a disaster and life changing for me. I dont care if its a 75k vehicle or 135k like mine, this is dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the vehicle is currently at the dealership! told my wife to start recording in case something happened.

Escalade would experience loss of acceleration 15-20mph under light/moderate throttle, appear to go in to neutral when going from 3rd to 4th (best I can tell,) and then slam in to gear. While doing 50-55mph Escalade would have a converter shudder or go in and out of neutral. This would leave me unable to accelerate if needed and would place me in a precarious position if I was turning out in traffic or needed change speeds. On a repeat trip to the dealer it was determined there was metal in the transmission pan and exact source of metal was not able to be identified. It never triggered a check engine light or any other visible warning. Transmission was replaced with partial cost assistance from gm and is back to operating properly.

I have 2017 Escalade esv, that has exactly same issue that the "global safety field investigations dcs5461" describes, such as, transmission oil temperature sensor malfunction, rough and loud shifts, hesitated acceleration. There were a numerous event that hesitation (not catching the gear) almost caused accidents. Check engine was on and it is at dealership at the date of 15th. (it did not ended up with an accident. Just scared because I drive this vehicle with my 3 young kids. ) my car may, may not have engine and trans built in the 2016, I was wondering if there are vehicles out there that has same problems, that are also similar year, maybe it could be more potential safety concerns on the road. I had taken my car in while it was under warranty for my motor the car wouldn’t move at all or start. They said it was a cylinder so they replaced the one cylinder and didn’t check any others. Just recently in January 2025 I took it back to the dealer for the same issues and they told me I need a whole new motor. Now the car is out of warranty. They charged me close to $1000 just to diagnose the car and tell me I need a they charge me close to $1000 just to diagnose the car and tell me I need a new motor. Apparently the other side of the motor they didn’t check had failed. Also my running boards were taken to the dealer for not working properly and they didn’t fix them while under warranty and now it’s still doing the same thing. Now my air condition isn’t blowing cold air I have taken it to the dealer. They claim I have different kind of freon, but I never replaced the freon. It’s original to the car when it was purchased. They are charging me $1100 just to diagnose the vehicle.

Complete engine failure with no prior warning and vehicle is currently at dealer waiting for new engine to arrive. The lives of myself and my children were at risk as the engine failure occurred while traveling at about 55 mph on a rural country road with cars having to swerve around me before I came to a complete stop on the shoulder of road. Again there was no prior warning or warning lights on the vehicle. The Cadillac dealership in texarkana has inspected the vehicle and determined the engine failed and needs a completely new engine.

Vibration on exceleration, dealer states transmission is bad.

I was driving home from getting groceries when all of a sudden the vehicle starts to make a loud noise from the engine (no warning lamps/lights or any messages popped up. ) I proceeded to go home and call my husband and ask for his help with the problem. I recorded a video of the car and sent it to him, and he said that it sounded like the engine is knocking and told me to shut the car off and call the dealership to further discuss the situation with them. After calling the dealership they towed my car to get it diagnosed. It has been a month or so now since leaving my car with them and they still cannot diagnose the issue.

Vehicle will stall when driving. Alarm sounds and engine will shut down. I can shift the car into neutral and it will re-start. I understand that this issue of stalling can damage the engine beyond repair. I believe this engine is under investigation by the NHTSA. The shop that serviced my transmission warned me about transmission failure due to what he called a garbage can. A cylinder that is prone to failure.

Radical shifting shuttring unknown what gear to select into.

Fortunately I was able to coast to the side of the road without impact. - the vehicle components went through inspection by the Cadillac dealer it was delivered to. - there were no messages or other symptoms that alerted me prior to the problem occured.

I bought this car used and within a couple hundred miles the car would just shut off and the dash lights came on. I took it in and they diagnosed it and replaced the camshaft actuator. Within a few hundred more miles the same symptoms appeared as I was driving on a 70mph freeway. I had to pull over to the shoulder and this time noticed a metallic smell. Car would not turn on. Had to get it towed back to the dealer. After a month there they informed me the engine seized and needs to be replaced. Approximately 6 weeks and still no estimate to when I will get my car back.

Driving and power started to die and engine warning lights came on. Pulled over immediately and engine stopped. Wouldn’t come back on. Towed by Cadillac and discovered engine blew. Apparently a know issue with many similar in the shop awaiting new engine.

My car shut down completely as I was driving it home last month [xxx] the cluster panel was showing charging system failure, stabilization and traction control coming on and off when not in use, the battery I bought was purchased in 2022 was completely drained and not rechargeable and even lights were staying on inside vehicle without out the battery connected, the driver door handle fell off not broken came loose and the tires had a locked lug nuts that never came with the vehicle when I purchased it, I had to buy a $103 unlocking key to remove the tire in order to get the brakes fixed and the spare tire was rusted and there wasn't a key to release it so I had it cut off because I was stranded on the road with no help, the shift gear came undone as I had to put a paper clip in it as I didn't have a warranty to cover this expense, the starter and battery and alternator, serpinewas paid out of pocket as I was sold a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with 238,0000 miles with prior accident and the carfax shows 50 different problems errors and the emergency break will shift out or on when not activated, the car has been without any power but yet the interior door lights and the radio would come on without any power, the car was in a prior accident before I became the owner, the gas costs me 140 weekly, I only used regular gas I only get 9miles to the gallon driving to nearest city but it costs me 40dollars total for round trip when I only drive 8 miles to culver indiana from my home, the car doesn't have air as it was removed before I purchased it, it's hot without air as heat comes from the engine and hits my legs my feet and my face with the heat turned off, the engine light is currently on the car was sold to me as is but its not worth $$ 11, 800. 00 with a 498. 00 car note, and I have been in between jobs because of the car constantly breaking down and causing me to lose my job and I scheduled a air bag replacement recall with the dealer in rochester, shepreds Chevrolet information redacted pursuant to the freedom of inform.
