Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System Problems of Cadillac Seville

The power steering becomes inoperable at low speeds, causing significant risks in proper maneuvering. The safety of pedestrians is of particular concern, as one incident recently demonstrated, when I could not turn the wheel fast enough. I had to jerk the car to a stop, nearly scaring the life out of a middle aged woman. The car is virtually impossible to parallel park.

The steering in the vehicle became more difficult with unusual noises. As the power assist started to fail. The steering started to make loud popping noises when turning right or left. The mechanic replaced most of the under carriage steering assembly and greased the steering shaft connected to the steering wheel.

1997 Cadillac Seville sts power steering failed while making a left turn. Steering effort increased instantly and caused the car to run off the road, no damage or injury fortunately as the speed was low. Steering to the right is comparatively normal but steering to the left requires as much force as I can muster, worse at slower speeds (such as parking or turning left form a stop or crawl). I did some research and found large numbers of Cadillacs with the same problem and that it is not confined to them alone, in fact there seems to be a large quantity of gm products that have the same thing happen, some involving injury accidents.

The consumer has been experiencing problems with accelerator. Accelerator stuck while driving. Thier rpm stayed around 2000. In addition, power steering failed. The manufacturer has been contacted.

Steering failed twice in rainy weather.

When driving in rain or through a puddle, there was a temporary loss of power steering and the vehicle was extremely hard to handle.
