car   Infant Child Seat Harness Buckle problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The car involved is a 1996 Chrysler town and country. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1C4GP64LXT_. Vehicle is equipped with manufacturers integral child safety seats. On 2 occasions, the occupied seat has refused to release the belted child. When this occurs, no amount of force will release the tension necessary to remove the occupant, and the only way to do so is to cust the child out of the seat with large knife or scissors, which we are now forced to carry with us at all times in this vehicle. The manufacturer is apparently aware of the problem, as the seats were redesigned in '97-98 model. However we have despite 2 incidents, we have been unable to upgrade to the new style. I would like the dot to initiate a recall investigation, and force Chrysler to upgrade all seats to correct this extremely dangerous safety issue. It was Mon., Dec. 28, 1998 when this infant child seat harness buckle issue occurred.

car   Infant Child Seat Harness Buckle problem of Ford Windstar

The vehicle involved was a 1998 Ford Windstar. I purchased the evenflo medallion carseat (model #2541113p1, manufactured 25feb00). My 16 month old son is able to unclasp the chest buckle. I have to to stop every few blocks to relatch it. I contacted evenflo about my problem and was told that the buckle had been changed on the newer model and they would send me the new buckle. But, if I use this buckle and it does not hold, evenflo would assume no liability since I had altered the harness. They said this buckle had not been tested on my model carseat so they would not guarantee its safety ( even though they offered to give it to me, interesting don't you think?). I was told by their customer service rep that the best thing to do would be to buy a new seat. This seat cost about $100, and I purchased it because I was told that a five point harness was the safest. I truly cannot afford another seat ( although I will buy one if it is my only recourse). Please advise me on my next step. Thank you for your time.
