Automatic Transmission Problems of Chevrolet 1500

The sun shell on my transmission broke taking out reverse 2nd and 4th gears. This is a common problem with gm transmissions. Its a 97 chevy 1500 z71 4x4.

My transmission went out @ 70637 miles . This conversion van is used mainly for long distance travel. Isn't it rather coincidental that my neighbors like van's transmission went out too. Now this is after the extended warranty expired on 3/24/2005. This van has been nothing but trouble. I have never gone on a trip with out some sort of vehicle trouble with this van. It left me in the boondocks of minnesota last summer three times because of a faulty "security" computer chip and has numerous "engine check lights" that come on and then off. But, the main thing is the transmission. I firmly believe that general motors installed a transmission that is too small for a vehicle of this size and weight.

When driving with overdrive on consumer noticed that the overdrive switched to drive. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that transmission failed.

I have a Chevrolet 1500 conversion van. Transmition unable to go into any gear. I was in lynchbury, va. Had to be towed. This incident occurred 11/23/01. Had to have transmition rebuilt. I was told that the manufacturer had done some update to the model transmition in my van. 06/01/04 transmition slipping. Had to have transmition rebuilt again. In 21/2 years I have spent $4,500. On repairs to transmition in my van. It is obvious that that transmition in my van is not compatable with the wiegh of the vehicle, and the manufacturer knew this. I didnot get 40000 miles before having transmition rebuilt again.

I purchased my 1999 gm truck and I have had problems with the transmission since I purchased it. I had the transmission serviced twice and I was told that it was fine. Now my transmission is skipping first gear and going straight into second gear. The vehicle warranty, of course, has now expired. My sister-in-law also has a 1999 gm van, and her transmission has to be replaced. She was experiencing the same conditions I have and she had her vehicle into service for the same issues I have. My son's girlfriend's mother has a 1999 gm suburban and she has just had her transmission replaced. She had experienced the same problems my sister-in-law and myself have experienced and she too has had her vehicle in for service for the same issues. I cannot believe gm has not had a recall on their transmissions that were placed in 1999 gm truck-type vehicles. This is outrageous. I am researching to see how many other people who bought 1999 gm truck-type vehicles have had the same problems.

While driving, the brake rotors failed. The center part of the rotor separated. Also the transmission, fuel pump and abs sensor was replaced.

Transmission went out while consumer was driving. Has not contacted dealer.

Consumer would stop vehicle and start again and transmsission would shift hard to second gear, consumer states it kicked, dealer stated that the problem was the shift actuator in the valve body assembly that's made of an alloy that does not expand/contract correctly within the assembly when hot.

Consumer was traveling on highway and transmission went out without prior notice, and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Transmisiion blew.

While driving vehicle intermittently will not go into the passing gear. Dealer can not identify the problem.
