Chevrolet 1500 owners have reported 10 problems related to wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Reduced engine power. This has been occurring off and on for about 9 months, have taken it to dealer multiple times and replaced everything that was said would fix the problem. The problem still occurs even after replacing: accelerator and receiver on throttle body as well as checking wiring harness for issues. Essentially, the vehicle will lose the function of the accelerator without warning at any given time during the use of the vehicle. The dealer has told me that they don't have any idea why it still is having this issue. . . The other day the vehicle was being driven and reduced engine power mode set in and at the same time the power steering went out. Thought the power steering going out at the same time was a one time deal but it happened again the very next day. The vehicle had this issue on the highway the other day and nearly caused an accident. It is shocking that there are not thousands of complaints with this same issue, if you look up forums on this topic there are over 200,000 threads on this very issues. There are thousands of forum complaints about reduced engine power and how people have spent $1000 plus at the dealer and the issue still persists. The drive by wire functionality instead of using a throttle cable seems to be having issues that even gm doesn't have an answer for. Would appreciate any looking into on this subject.

On December 19th 2013 was at a class for work about 65 miles from home, when came out of class and truck would not start keep getting security light flashing in the information window. Later found out this cut the gas of from someone stealing the vehicle, but I had the original key to the truck. Had to have vehicle towed back to my home 65 miles away. A certified mechanic looked at the truck for me and said he believed he had fixed it by replacing the ignition wiring harness. Truck worked great until recent I was traveling down a the highway at 65mph and the key to the vehicle fell out of the ignition onto the floor, lucky for me the vehicle stayed running. I have recently been looking at the ignition and have found that any position that the key is in rather it be running or auxiliary the key can be removed from the ignition. Also the truck is back to showing the security light flashing in the information center and truck will not start. I have to leave the key in the on position and wait 10 minutes before the truck will start. This seems to be a problem with chevy!!!!!!!.

I bought my 2004 used with 116,159 miles on it. I noticed the blower motor for the a/c and heater would act up on its own and thought it was just the auto climate control it has. I smelled electrical wiring burning at different times but could noy find anything burnt in the wiring after inspecting the wiring under the dash and hood. On Feb. 25,2014 I went to the grocery store and when I shut my suburban off the blower motor stayed on. I tried turn the key on and off but the motor stayed on. I went in the store and when I came out 1/2 hour later the blower motor was still running. Now every time I turn the suburban off the blower keeps running so I had to pull the fuse out so it would not run the battery down. I googled the problem and found that this has happened to several other vehicels. After finding out the part that is defective is called a blower relay resistor module I called the parts store to get the part. They said they could not get the part and to try the dealership. The Chevrolet dealer had the part and I asked if there happened to be a recall on tha part. They wanted my VIN. # so they could check my suburban and said that my suburban was not included in 'that' recall. That sound alittle weird the way he said it so I got on the web and checked myself. There is a recall # 10240 that discribes the exact same proublems with other 2004 suburbans that is happening with my suburban to the "t". It said in the recall that the problem could cause a fire. Does someone need to die before the recall is expanded to vehicles, the same make, model and year is incuded!!!!!!.

Passlock ii system if faulty, leading to having the occupants of the vehicle stranded for 10 minutes to hours waiting for the system to reset itself. System misreads the key's resistance value and disables the fuel for a period of time, frequently over an hoour. My system faults more frequently in hot, humid weather, leading me to believe the moisture from the humidity is lowering the ohms causing a misread of the factory key. I have no aftermarket wiring, alarms, stereo, remote starts etc. I also use the single key with nothing attached to the ring that would bear additional weight to the key in the cylinder.

Brake rotors corroded completely , emergency brake rusted completely , massive rust under truck , brake calipers rusted , power steering went out ,a. C. Fan went out, short in wiring in door locks and windows, this a 2001, 56,000, miles, low mileage truck to have so many problems, the dealership said they had not seen this problem before, I looked it up, there is rusting and total corrosion of the brake rotors in many different states, over along period of time, even when the rotors are replaced they are rusting completely again. Chevy is selling an expensive truck, and then profiting again on the replacement of the defective parts, and making a premium profit on that too. ! they are not bothering to fix a defect that has been going on for a long time. Very disgusted with the chevy silverado, my first and last chevy.

The air bag light illuminated, consumer took vehicle to the mechanic who informed consumer that there is a horn ring under the air bag in the steering column that has two wires. Most likely one of the two is broken which causes the light to stay on. He also stated to consumer that this was a common problem with these trucks. Consumer had the part replaced and had to take vehicle to the dealer to clear the computer. The service department informed consumer that the control module was friedbecause the wires shorted out in the steering column.
