Four problems related to gasoline engine have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Engine knocks on startup and when warm, which sounds like that of the lifter. Consumer went to the dealer and was told that this is normal. It's hard to think that gm would make a gas engine to make this kind of noise. The new 6. 0 dont make this type of noise on start up. I found out from the dealer that the older 6. 0 have made this kind of noise. Gm pulled the engines for inspection. It seems like they found the problem and fixed it on the new models and won't fix the mistake of the old ones.
When the truck starts it sounds like a diesel- for about 10 min max- this only happens in the am or after a long sit at work (ie. 6+ hrs) we were told by the dealer that its normal and that there is a tech bulletin on it- my father in laws truck (1500) doesn't make this noise and it is the same year as mine. Also the new trucks do not make this noise-- I do think that something is going on and that the dealer or manufacturer doesn't want to fix it since its a shame- going to lose more than one faithful chevy consumer.
Engine knocks on cold start laststed few seconds after 1000mi now knock for close to a minute can still hear after its at operating temp don't think its safe.
Since new the vehicle has developed an engine knock, I have talked to 4 other people with the same problem, the dealer advises there is no repair at this time! and advised me that they are aware of problems with the 6 and 5. 3 liter engines. I am worried that this problem will reduce the engine life and I am conserned about the manufacturer stance of "no repair at this time" thanks.
