1 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

I was leaving my property going up the driveway, I pressed on the brake pedal and it went to the floor and no brakes at all. I had my wife pump the pedal and could see brake fluid shooting from a rusted line. I'm glad I didn't get out on the highway. I have never heard of brake lines rusting out! I have cars from the 60's with original lines. People need to know about this issue before some one gets hurt or worse.

2 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 06/05/2015

I was driving my 2001 chevy 2500hd and coming into traffic the truck slowed down and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to change lanes just in time to avoid an accident. I pull over to the side of the road and sure enough brake fluid leaking from the rusty gm brake hard lines. Leaking at the most common place by the abs pump which is on the driver side behind the front wheel. I was able to drive the truck home with using only the front brakes and will be replacing the hard lines with stainless lines. Called the local dealer and was quoted $1,500-$2,000. . . . Everyone should send the rusty lines to gm so they can do something about it.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

Went to back out of my driveway, hit the brake pedal and it went to the floor. The curb across the street stopped me. Luckily there were no kids riding bikes or playing in the street. . . . Looked under my truck and saw that the brake lines were corroded and one had apparently burst. There was a large puddle of brake fluid where I was parked. I'm just so glad no one got hurt, but its probably just a matter of time before someone does.

7 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The brakes failed in an emergency stop situation. A car ran a stop sign in front of me. I applied the brakes hard. The abs kicked in and I avoided a collision. I applied the brakes again and the pedal went to the floor. Brake fluid was leaking on the ground from a ruptured brake line. I took to the dealer and they stated that all the brake lines are corroded and require replacement.

8 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 07/29/2012

Approached stop sign, applied brakes, pedal went to the floor. . . While towing an enclosed 26' trailer with full load. Trailer brakes enabled a controlled stop of vehicles without an accident. Brake fluid was dripping from area beneath driver's side door along frame. One (1) line is leaking, with all of the other lines severely rusted (visually).

10 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

I just finished reading an article on yahoo autos concerning brake problems with chevy trucks brake lines rusting. In 2012 I found brake fluid leaking under my truck. A leak developed in middle of the line to the rear brakes. I repaired this line at this time. In August. 14. 2013 I had the truck hitched to a 28 ft fifth wheel trailer (truck is rated to haul this trailer) and while moving it on a back country road I found that the only brakes I had were the trailer brakes. Turned truck and drove it home, parked trailer and took truck to local brake and muffler place and paid $292. 02 to have the 2 lines to the front brakes replaced. One was rusted in half and the other had a small leak the 2 lines to the abs distribution block from the master cylinder have not been changed yet but they are in bad shape too. If this loss of brakes had happened on the road the truck and fifth wheel (6000+ lbs & 8000+ lbs ) could have caused a major accident possibly killing someone.

11 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2006 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

13 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 10/28/2011

While coming to a red light, I lost the ability to stop. Upon inspection I observed severely corroded and rusty brake lines and fluid leaking leaking from one of the brake lines.

14 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

I was driving south on MD-235 in lexington park, MD when the light at the intersection of MD-235 & fdr blvd. Turned yellow. I had little room to stop and applied the brakes forcefully, slowing to approximately 25 mph when the pedal went to the floor and I ran through the intersection as the light turned red. No cars were in front of me; an accident did not occur. I used the emergency brake to stop and opened the hood, thinking I had a brake master cylinder failure. I noted fluid dripping from underneath the chassis by the driver's door, & on further inspection, found a rupture in a corroded brake line. I drove home using the emergency brake (rural area; approximately 12 miles), lightly pressing the brake pedal when stopping with the emergency brake to turn the brake lights on. Once home, I found virtually every steel brake line throughout the vehicle badly corroded. An internet search provided information that this is a prevailing problem with 1999-2004 Chevrolet trucks of all models. A problem this prevalent with this high of a safety concern needs a manufacturer's recall issued for these vehicles. I am the second owner of this vehicle.

15 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

On 9/15/11, depressed brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. The truck did stop. I was less than a mile from home. Inspected undercarriage at home and found brake fluid leaking from an undetermined source. Took truck to servicer in bardstown, ky on 9/15/11. Received call on 9/16/11 that in addition to the one line leaking, the other 3 are suffering from heavy corrosion and at risk of imminent failure. The truck was purchased new in 2001 and has approximately 75,000 miles on it. The truck has been driven exclusively in ky, and not exposed to excessive salt.

16 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 03/19/2011

Brake line failure due to corrosion. Failure occurred without warning, excessive pedal travel and extended stopping distance through stop sign. Fluid leaking from beneath driver's side frame area. All metal lines heavily and substantially corroded. Identified and replaced failed line. Adjacent line subsequently failed during extended (10 second) full pedal application before vehicle even left garage. Replaced all 1/4" lines on truck.

17 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2004 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 01/22/2011

Truck: 2004 Chevrolet silverado 2500hd, 6. 6l diesel. Location: upstate NY problem: while testing the brakes before towing a trailer, the pedal pushed completely to the floor and brake fluid poured to the ground from under the drivers side door. Upon inspection of the brake lines, it showed one of the lines on the frame rail had severe corrosion and had burst. All of the brake fluid drained out of the master cylinder through this broken line. I checked the operation of the brakes after the broken line to see if I had any ability to stop the vehicle. This was not the case as the brakes would not even stop the vehicle from moving at an idle. If this had occurred at operating speeds, especially while towing, I would have not been able to stop the vehicle. Currently the truck is at a repair facility to have the lines replaced and system checked.

18 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 2500

Failure Date: 01/03/2003

Brake line failure. Abs system failure. Light for abs and brake have been on and off since original purchase. Dealers could not eliminate the problem. Noticed rust on brake lines throughout. Currently all brake lines are covered in rust and leaking just prior to the abs components on driver side middle frame rail. Brake lines are brittle to the touch. Currently the breaking system has no pressure. All fluid has leaked from the system. Service requested by dealer for noisy and leaking transfer case. Dealer applied grease to the drive shaft. Problem not resolved. While driving in 4 wheel drive, the transfer case experienced a catastrophic failure. Unit was extremely hot and the gears were ground out. To my knowledge gm is and was aware that the transfer case fluid pumps were wearing a hole in the case from the inside. Now know as "pump rub". Dealers had opportunities to repair and or replace and failed to act to resolve the known damage.
