Here I am 2016 and the third time I have to replace rusted corrosive brake lines and fuel lines. This time I only put 3500 miles on the truck since the last time. They are on the verge or blowing out, the first two times they did and lucky was able to stop. The fuel line is gone again also. Why??.

Rusted out brake line to rear brakes along frame rail on my 2002 silverado 4 x 4. Thank god no one was injured. This truck I purchased brand new and has never seen any winter weather until 2013. I was involved in a unrelated accident in Jan. 2013 and the truck sat at a body shop until the end of may 2013. This year I had to use my truck. Should a brake line have rusted thru prematurely? I don't think so. I think gm should be accountable for this failure and reimburse all people affected by this substandard part failure.
I was driving my 2001 silverado 2500 hd and when I applied my brakes the vehicle started to slow down as expected. All of the sudden the brake pedal went to the floor and I had to press very hard to get the vehicle to completely stop. I am extremely lucky there was no vehicle in front of me and that I was not going very fast when the brakes failed! I took the vehicle to my repair shop and they found a brake line near a block (under the driver seat area) that had blown a hole in it. All the lines at the block were very corroded and need to be replaced. They stated usually the brake line blows out in the rear and that my rear line looked to be in pretty bad shape as well but that it had not blown yet. If I would have been on the highway or going any speed in traffic I would have plowed through something for sure. . . I cannot believe this type of safety hazard has not been a recall! I would think gm would at least send out a warning letter of the failure possibility. I now feel the need to do a random google search for other possible life threatening failures gm doesn't feel the need to notify owners of. Very disappointed.
Extreme brake line corrosion will require a complete brake system replacement. There is no way that this type of corrosion is due to anything other than a problem with the materials that gm chose to use. Nhtsa should force gm to recall these vehicles for inferior and dangerous components.
While driving the brake line ruptured causing pedal to sink to the floor. Upon inspection, all the brake lines were completely rusted and degraded to the point of needing to be replaced.
Placed foot on brake and started vehicle. When it started the pedal went to the floor. My son happened to be standing next to the truck and said there was fluid coming out by the front tire on the driver's side. Shut the engine off. He checked where the fluid was coming from and saw that all the brake lines were rusted.
After dropping off a boat for winter storage, I was leaving the storage location and attempted to apply brakes and the pedal dropped to the floor. I had to take a very slow route home as the brake pedal continued to drop to the floor anytime the brakes were applied. In a couple of instances when the brake pedal was pressed hard, the abs system did activate. Finally had a chance to pull this vehicle into my garage for examination on 11/8/13 and found the brake lines under the drivers' floorboard at the frame-rail extremely corroded to the point of failure of one of the five lines. The others are most certainly not far behind. This vehicle is mainly used in the winter months. I am grateful that the problem surfaced now before the snowmobile season when I am hauling a 24 foot trailer with four passengers and four snowmobiles on roads that are not in the best shape to begin with. This could have been a very bad situation to say the least! gm needs to fix this issue before someone is seriously injured or worse - these obviously are not isolated incidents. *** please note that there has yet to be a single warning lamp to come on after applying the brakes at least twenty five times - no mil, no brake, nothing! *** I will be taking a complete series of pictures of the condition of these lines before the repairs are performed if they are needed for this complaint.
The brake lines break / fail fortunately at low speed while towing boat on trailer. The second failure - also of brake lines - occurred just six weeks after the first.
While my brother and I were towing a loaded trailer, the brakes failed. Upon further investigation, we found all the brake lines were severely rusted and the line to the front brakes had completely rusted through causing a leak.
Traffic stopped quickly ahead right after light had changed to green. Slammed on my brakes, abs went on and my pedal went to the floor, pulled over and found brake fluid flowing under drivers side door. Truck is at the dealers. . . . . . . . . . Rusted brake lines.
Rusty brake lines, they shouldn't rust out and fail thus causing a dangerous situation. I pulled up to my destination and applied the brakes, the brake pedal went completely to the floor and the vehicle only slowed down. I then applied the pedal quickly several times and the vehicle eventually stopped but way past it's mark. By luck there wasn't anything in the way or I would have hit anything in it's path. At the low speed I was traveling it was possible to come to a stop . A landscaping timber chocked the front wheels at the front to help make the stop possible. My biggest concerns are , what if I was going faster as I was just minutes before. When the brake fluid sprayed out of the broken rusty brake line , the resulting smoke cloud was my only warning. ,no warning and total loss of brakes and stopping ability. I was fortunate I was going slow when this happened and I didn't hit anyone or anything.
Pulling trailer needed to make a quick stop and the truck would not slow down. If it were not for the trailer brakes I would have rear ended a car trying to make a left turn. Stopped at neatest gm dealer and found out one brake line had bursted due to rust and corrosion. Ended up have to replace all four brake lines to make my truck safe to drive. Cost $800. 00.
One of the brake lines has rusted clear through and ruptured when I pressed on the brake pedal. Looking at the other lines, it appears that they are about to rust through as well. I have other vehicles that are much older and more miles that the brake lines are like new. There is a flaw in the lines installed on my truck.
Brake lines from engine to abs corroded and burst causing loss of brakes.
All of the steel brake lines on my chevy silverado 2500 hd have severely corroded and are in need of replacement. The truck has not been used off road or in harsh environments and has been regularly maintained.
Brake line failure due to corrosion (rust). Brake line to rear wheels sprung leak and stopping was difficult. Had this been at higher speed, could have fatality. The material the brake lines are made of should not be used to make brake lines. Checked brake lines and they are all heavily corroded. All will have to be replaced. Similarly the fuel line is heavily corroded between tank and engine. It is apparent that saving a few pennies on cost of brake lines alloy, is more important to gm than the lives of the occupants of the vehicles.
The truck is primiarly used for towing trailers. Once in 2012 when towing a 10k lbs travel trailer a rear brake line that appeared solid developed a hole and released any hydrolic pressure. The truck was safly stopped and repaired. August of 2013 while towing pwcs on a trailer another line that appeared to be solid brake line developed a hole and leaked out the break fluid. Truck was safly stopped and is awaiting repairs. The truck appears to have an abnormal amount of rust on the brake lines brake compnents frame and suspension componets for the age of truck. Front and rear brakes were replaced 3 times due to rust also. Body of the truck has no rust or damage to it.
Went to stop and brake line blew. All brake lines, fuel lines and undercarriage rotted.
The brake line ruptured under the driver's seat due to rust. This happened with the truck unloaded and in my driveway. I simply pressed the break peddle to put the truck in reverse. All of the lines are extremely corroded.
Brake line near frame rail beneath drivers seat are corroded. One of the lines developed a leak and a loss of brake function resulted. All of the brake lines are completely corroded and need to be replaced.

I was driving home from work and was coming up to a stop sign and my brake pedel went clear to the floor. Luckly no one was coming and I went right through the intersection. After getting the truck home, my mechanic came and looked it over and found the rear brake line on the left side of the truck was completed rotted out and will have to be replaced. He told me that the other lines are looking bad also and that they should be replaced.
Brake lines corroded and vehicle lost all brake fluid, thankfully while parked. Vehicle is 7 years old, with low mileage, always garaged and driven a limited amount during winter, so exposure to salt was not high at all. This type of failure should not occur on a 7 year old heavy duty truck with 50k miles. Thanks god it didn't lose brakes when towing a horse trailer. .
All brake lines under drivers door severely rusted. The line going to the rear ruptured above the fuel tank causing failure of brake system.

While traveling on I-95 at approximately 50mph traffic in front of me stopped to avoid road way debris. When I applied my brakes the pedal went to the floor. Pumping didn't help although the truck did slow down before hitting the vehicle in front of me. Luckily no one was injured. My truck sustained many thousands of dollars to the front end. The dealer tells me that the brake line burst and all brake lines are corroded and need replacing. There were no prior brake problems.

I'm currently replacing more brake lines as they have failed and started to leak. The first time this happen was in 2009 where my brake pedal went to the floor after making a sudden stop to avoid hitting a deer. It blew out a cooroded brake line. I've replaced the rotors in 2009 cause they were all rotted out from the inside area, and now the brake lines near abs module need to be replaced cause they are leaking and pedal and abs keeps pushing in too far and abs goes off prematurely. My frame has bad rust all over it and I am very meticulous about cleaning my truck off when road salt is on it. The under chasis has coorsion on the cross members, frame, and torsion bars, it all looks bad. Though I have an extended warranty through a thrid party and have had many other parts replaced through them due to failure, they do not cover cost of brake lines due to rot.
Went to use the truck and brake pedal went to the floorboard. Looked under the truck and fluid had shot out everywhere. Two blown brake lines due to rotted out condition of the lines. Repair total of $411. 68. . 2 lines plus fittings plus new bleeder screws. The mechanic tells me this is a common problem with gm pick-ups and that the other brake lines are on the edge of going also. These lines too are rotted and need to be replaced ASAP. I see that there is an investigation with the NHTSA action number of ea11001. The investigation should be expanded to include additional years for vehicles before 1999 and after 2003. I was lucky my incedent happened in the driveway and not doing 70 mph out on the highway. I am looking at an additional repair bill of about $750-$800 to replace the other lines. Needless to say I am distressed to be in this position due to the materials used and installation position of these lines.
Failure of corroded brake lines.
I was slowing down, coming to a 4 way stop. That was when the brakes went to the floor board, and I went through the 4 way without stopping!!!! I was very lucky because there was nobody going through that 4 way at that time!!! the brake line under the driver side door had leak do to rusting!!!! also I had just drop off my travel trailer before this happened. Couldn't imagine what would have happen trying to stop 9500lbs!!!!!!!!!.
The brake lines on my 2002 chevy 2500 hd completely blew out causing me to go through a red light ending up in the middle of the intersection.
Was leaving for a trip and had my trailer on the back. Pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. Looked under the truck to find my brake lines were leaking.
Brake lines in my Chevrolet 2500hd 2003 burst. The amount of rust is very excessive. The amount of complaints about the same issue is astounding.
Front brake lines rusted badly on frame rail on two chevys we own.

A steel brake line located on the drivers side of the vehicle in front of the tire on the radiator support cross member burst due to rust. More to follow after a complete inspection of the brake system.
Was testing the brakes on a boat trailer before towing it away and a steel brake line running inside the frame channel behind the driver's side rear wheel suddenly burst. Upon inspection, the line was completely rotten for about a 3 to 4 inch section in that area. No warning, another 10 minutes I would have been towing a heavy trailer and the brakes would have failed at any sudden stop. After this line failure, the truck has no brakes except the e-brake, which isn't much. Hopefully there will be a recall, though I already dropped $600 at the shop to get it fixed today.
