Two problems related to differential unit have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Astro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Differential unit failed while driving. Consumer intermittently would hear a clonking noise from the rear of vehicle; vehicle was taken to dealer on three occasions, and was informed that nothing could be found. Differential is inoperative, and dealer repaired problem, paid part of the cost.
Differential ring and pinion gear failed 5 times.
