Six problems related to front air bag have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Astro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While pulling into a parking lot at approximately 5 mph front passenger air bag suddenly deployed, causing minor injuries to his 10 year old son, burns on legs and busted lip from contact with air bag - also, ringing of ears from deployment. Insurance company and manufacturer are currently investigating this issue. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
While stopped I was rear ended, front end of my car is destroyed. Air bag should have deployed.
While driving on local road , traveling 40-45mph, two vehicles up and ahead were crossing the intersection. Consumer realizing that there were cameras and light turned yellow, slammed on the brakes, and a pickup truck behind rearended her. Consumer applied brakes, and they failed. Also, upon impact, neither airbag deployed.
While driving at 45 mph applied brakes, no brakes, frontal impact occurred and neither airbag deployed. Dealer contacted and is aware of the problem. Condition of vehicle not determined. Problem still exists. Provide further information.
False deployment of driver's/passenger's air bags while vehicle was parked.
Consumer was driving on normal road condition at 30 mph, when vehicle hit an unseen pothole, causing both air bags to deploy. Dealer inspected the vehicle and informed consumer that it was a normal condition for the air bags to deploy.
