In a turn my side air bags deployed, the shock almost caused me to hit the ditch.
The dashboard is cracked around the passenger side airbag. This presents a hazard as shards of plastic could become projectiles if the airbag is deployed. Nothing happened to cause the cracked dash, it seems to be a normal problem with these vehicles and it's creating a hazard.

The vehicle was towed to the driver's residence where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. My dashboard cracked at the narrowest part, which is also at the corner of the airbag station (passenger side). I can have a cover made for it. (I'm not sure I could afford to have it replaced) but, my main concern is, could that interfere with the deployment of the passenger side airbag?.
I had backed up a jet ski into a parking space. I had got out of the car to check spacing and got back in and closed the door. Went to place vehicle in drive and both side airbags deployed with my four year old son in the back seat.
My chevy Avalanche has a known issue of the dash cracking which gm denies. Like many other tahoe,silverado,and Avalanche owners I have a cracked dash right in the corner of the passenger side air bag and another over the drivers steering column. The dash flaps freely and I'm worried if the air bag goes off that sharp shrapnel will fly in the face of the driver and passenger. There are tons of owners all over with identical issues.
Driving on a normal paved road I heard two fairly loud "pop" sounds. Stopped and pulled over to see if I could find source of the sounds. Nothing had fallen, no windows broken, but noticed 2 cracks on upper dashboard where the passenger airbag resides. Pressed on that area and was able to see the dash had completely cracked apart and was "flopping". Proceeded to drive and in next mile another "pop" sound occurred, this time it was an even larger crack on the left side of the dash near the instrument panel, and the entire top portion of the dash drivers side to passenger side was now bouncing up and down by about 1-2inches. I fear if the drivers a-pillar side airbag or the passanger main airbag are deployed, that fragments and large pieces of the hard dash plastic can be thrown at high-speed to people in the cabin. . . This is not acceptable as a safety concern. I attempted a resolution thru gm, who wanted almost $1000 to do the repair, even though the acknowledge its a common problem, they do not seem willing to come to a common resolution. . Read more...
My dashboard has two large cracks around the passenger and drivers side airbags. . . . I see this is a big problem for many people so I'm not quite sure why they are not looking into it!.

Around the may 2012 timeframe I had to take my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche in to a local dealership for service to the cracked dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The dealership agreed that this was a defective issue through out a number of other gm models. The dealership agreed to replace the dashboard at no charge. This week on 9 December 2013 I noticed another crack in the new dashboard. Just slightly over a year this has happened again but this time in a new location. This crack is on the drivers side near the front of the windshield near the VIN number plate to the base of the instrument cluster. This crack in the past two days is opening more and more everyday. On 10 December the crack has now formed a "v" shape and has split to towards the drivers door. I took the vehicle in today and the dealership, the same dealership that replaced the dashboard the first time, said no and that they could no longer help me and recommended to me that I just get a "cover" to not see it and bother me. I paid nearly $40,000 for the truck and keep very good care of it. I feel that these cracks are a safety concern that should be addressed and fixed. The dealerships around the country have acknowledged that this is an issue and they will no longer help. Other owners like me are having this issue and we need help to get our vehicles fixed. Please help all of us in getting this issue fixed as soon as possible.
Dash board around the instrument panel to the passenger side airbag is cracked. I don't know what caused it to start but it started as a small crack then it began to spread across the dash.
Initially the dash board cracked in one corner on the passenger side, at the right upper corner of the inset for the passenger airbag. Now the dash board has split in the center and the left upper corner at the passenger side air bag. It seems if the passenger side air bag were to deploy the broken sections of the dash would become projectiles inflicting serious injury. I have notified the local chev dealer, vester chev, svc manager johnny davis, but they state it is a "normal" wear item! they refuse to address the issue. I have noticed in google searches and vehicles I look at the problem is widespread on gm tahoe and GMC yukons for several years of production. Please make this note a subject of concern.
The dashboard of my 2007 chevy Avalanche has been cracking for years, I did let my dealership know and they said that was not under warranty and they didn't offer me a discount to repair it. My dash has several cracks from the drivers side to the passenger side airbag, a large hole is directly in the middle of the dash where the pieces just vibrated apart exposing the equipment under the dash. The pieces of plastic are a little heavy and sharp I feel the whole dash could break into pieces if the air bag is deployed. I do not have any record of receiving a quote or being denied the repair, but I don't think they will deny that they've been saying it's not covered. And, I'm not sure of the exact date, but I think it started to crack in 2010, now it's kind of a wreck, I've attached a picture of the big hole!.
The passenger side airbag is defective and needs replaced Chevrolet said there was no fix for the airbag problem what should I do with the vehicle is it safe to drive where can I get a new airbag for the vehicle????.
