5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

I started to notice a strong gas smell whenever I fully filled the gas tank. The odor would disappear after the needle moved off the full mark. Later investigation showed gas droplets coming down from the top of the fuel tank when it was full or near full. Subsequent examination by gm dealership revealed rusted out fuel module (pump/sender unit) locking ring and rust hole in top of fuel module. Examination required gas tank to be removed. Labor and fuel module replacement cost = $1000. 00. Of more importance, the above allowed both fuel and gas fumes to exit the gas tank, creating a dangerous situation for vehicles parked in an enclosed area.
