10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

My vehicle speed appears to be fluctuating, engine braking also occurs when the service stabilitrak lights come one. I was driving and it felt like it stalled or the clutch kicked in then reengaged. Online forums depict hundreds of owners with the same incidents. The issue affects many components of the vehicle. Some believe that the onstar system or the abs module is defective. This is a serious problem that must be investigated. When I took it in last time, the dealer claimed it was a faulty abs sensor. This did not solve the issue as this continues to happen off and on and I fell this puts us at risk. These issues happen while parked, driving, and turning, be it roadways, driveways, parking lots, etc.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

I was driving on the interstate when I noticed that my speed would not go over 35mph. I did not notice this beforehand because the speed limit was 35mph up until I needed to accelerate to highway speeds. I noticed that no matter what I did, or how fast I was going, the speedometer would not read above 35mph. Needless to say that this made my trip to the airport rather stressful as I had no idea how fast I was going. I could only pace with other cars and hoped they weren't going too fast. I have read that this has been an ongoing problem with the Avalanche with not just the speedometer but also the rest of the gauges on the cluster. It would be really nice if gm/Chevrolet would address this issue and make a recall for it. Ever since this incident, it's been randomly breaking. If I stop and restart the vehicle, sometimes it works as normal. However sometimes I'm just not sure and this lack of trust with the gauges could end up being a serious problem.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

As I was driving my Avalanche the stability track and traction control turned on my truck reduced power to half and it pulled right. I drove into lots of dirt and my brakes were affected too. I have been having issues with my 2007 avalance stabilitrak traction control turning off intermitingly. I have had my truck to the dealer 3 times on this issue and I am still with the same problem. This started over a year ago and when bringing it in for service there were no codes found for this problem. Today after picking up my truck once again and paying the dealer to replace the remote control door lock receiver being one of the codes showing this did not solve the problem and the part removed was still good. It seems to me that the service dept at the chevy dealer has no clue on how to solve this problem. Everytime I start my truck even sitting at idle the bell starts chiming and the triangle signand the warning reads service stabilitrak then service traction control (off) activates within a few miniuts. This keeps going on and off as I am driving and when its in the off position the trans shifts gears very hard. Looking trough this forum I can see that this had been a major problem in the past with 2003 and up and there are many people talking aboutthis issue with their trucksbut I have not come across anyone who can give the answer on how to resolve this problem. Dose anyone else have this problem or have heard of this being a problem with an answer.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

I was driving on a bridge when the check engine light came on and the engine power reduced. The truck immediately dropped to below 30 mph and I could not accelerate up the bridge and barely avoiding an accident, as this was in a heavy traffic area. I was able to get it to the dealership and are working on it now. This if the fifth time this has happened to my truck. My wife and I just sold our 2007 Chevrolet tahoe and the only reason was the engine power reduced error occurred on it seven times, three in month prior to selling it. This is a major problem and could have easily resulted in a severe accident. Both cars were only ever serviced at Chevrolet dealerships and each time, they insisted it was fixed and the problem was gone. We have no faith in Chevrolet at this time!.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

The vehicles governor shut the vehicle off at 97mph while going around a corner which made the steering wheel lock up and made the brakes not work. Two people where life flighted to hospitals with various injuries. . . No air bags deployed at all. . . The first impact in the accident was to the side of the vehicle. Injuries sustained included multiple fractures of the spine of the driver from being ejected almost 40 feet passed where the truck had come to a rest. The debris path was over 150 ft. Long and the truck left the road because it could not turn then struck a stop sign and totally uprooted the stop sign including the cement cinder block under the ground which sent the truck in a death roll. Then the truck continued forward into a utility poles guide wire which dropped the pole on top of the truck as well as the wires. Then continued forward some more in which it came to a rest against a cedar tree.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

I own a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche ltz and at times when the truck down shifts it will lunge forward. I really need to have my foot firmly pressed on the brake to keep the truck from possibly hitting something or someone in front of me. It does not do it all the time and it's rather random. I feel that is worse then it happening all the time because I don't know when to expect it. I have not received any notification of a recall, but I feel a fix is definitely in order. Something is not right and it could result in a crash.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/28/2013

I was in line at a drive through at burger king and as I pulled up to the cashier¿s window to pay for my food the engine started to accelerate. I put my foot on the brakes as hard as I could while the truck was shaking and lurching trying to go forward. I can¿t say for sure how high the tachometer was, but it seemed to almost peg for a few seconds while this was going on. Finally I jammed the transmission into neutral and the engine returned to normal idle. I say jammed because it took great strength to get it out of drive. For about 10-15 seconds this truck was totally out of my control. I drove away and parked for a few minutes to gather myself as I was visibly shaken. . I was thankful that no one was in front of me in at burger king or that I was not in a parking lot somewhere where someone could have been injured or killed. I had brought this vehicle in more than once to the dealer (rk cheverolet) and complained about the transmission not shifting properly and was always told they could not find a problem. After reporting this they decided to put a device to monitor the computer. I drove around with this for about 3 months and nothing happened and they said the data collected was inconclusive. Since the truck had just went out of warranty they said they could not do anymore. This is totally unacceptable.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

I have began to notice when slowing down (foot off the gas and coasting with foot on brake, or brake applied) at any area where my speed decreases to less than 15 mph that my Avalanche will seem to sort of lunge forward. The first time I experienced this I believed it was related to me and ignored it. The next couple of times I experienced this I thought there may be something wrong with the gas or engine. I have spoken with several other owners (who own the same year model Avalanche and suburban - the suburban and Avalanche are made from the same frame/body/parts) and they state experiencing the same issue. I must be cautious to ride my brakes and be read to heavily apply them now when taking an off/on ramp and vehicles are in front of me as my vehicle has lunged forward before with vehicles in front of me. I noticed here that (at the time of this submission) that two other users have reported the same incident. I am hoping that my report here will help open an investigation with Chevrolet on this issue.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

My trucks speedometer cluster does not work and wont work. Its stays at 0 mph.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

Engine light and reduce engine power and start loosing speed. After turned off for a few minutes work fine. This year in an hour ride have to stop at least 20 times. Computer codes stated need to change throttle body. Last week I change it and again the same problem.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/09/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. While driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times over a span of three years where it was diagnosed that the throttle position sensor and the program sensor kit needed to replaced. The contact also stated that the LS valve cover, number one plug, cylinder head, piston rings, and a deflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and an oil consumption test was performed over a six month period. In addition, the engine was flushed; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 43,000.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

I am a soldier with 17yrs of active duty service and I was home over the weekend for the mlk weekend with my family. I leave Monday morning about 0900am to return back to my home station and my truck was driving fine, I stopped at a red light to make a left turn and when the light turned green I accelerated to about 5-10mph then there was a clunking noise and my vehicle would not accelerate anymore it would just send the rpms up so I drifted off the road and put my vehicle in park because I just had my vehicle serviced. I checked all my fluids and they all were fine so I put my vehicle in reverse worked fine, selected drive and it wouldn't move, selected 3rd gear wouldn't move, selected 2nd gear truck would move, and selected 1st the truck would move. There I was with my wife and my 2 daughters and mother-n-law on the side of the road in nc, luckily we didn't get that far from my in-laws home and they called a local shop that towed my vehicle back to her home. I have always wanted an Avalanche but I get on the computer and I start reading about other people who have had the same problem and that is shocking, and to happen under a 100k miles. This is not my 1st chevy vehicle I have owned as well, I have owned a chevy trailblazer ltz that the four wheeled drive went out on that I purchase for my wife, so I traded that in for the 07 trailblazer ss that my wife really loved and that vehicle ended having an electrical fire from the wiring harness and my vehicle sat down at the dealership for almost a month until I notified them that something has to happen in which they let me trade that vehicle in for a Honda accord in which I haven't had any issues out of that my wife is currently driving. In my reading last night when I finally made it back home after borrowing a car from my nephew that just happens to be another Honda accord and I see all these stories posted horrible.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

Well, when driving my 2002 chevy Avalanche truck the reduce engine light cuts on. In addition, my truck starts to slow down and reduce speed. Sometimes on the interstate while I'm driving also. I've been to two gm dealership and paid money to have it service. As a result, they were charging me a lot of money, but never fixing the problem. It's very dangerous when driving sometime, so I been pulling over and resetting the computer to drive. I've read that there's recalls on some gm truck like mines. Also, I brought it to the gm service department too.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

First few months experienced truck lunging forward whilst attempting to stop. Expressed concern with service dept. They stated nature of the vehicle performance. March 2013 called gm service #71-116-5269812 after experiencing on highway @ 65 mph the vehicle accelerating as I applied brake to slow down rpm's jumped to 4500 and accelerated. 3/21/13 mileage 24,565 was told by dealership no codes were found. Was referred by gm to tech specialist 3/26/13 @ 866 790 5700 ext. 32664 told to get second opinion then completely ignored by gm for follow ups. April 1st different dealership found code event stored in transmission control module from March 15th but no diagnostic was present, they cleaned the throttle body. Mid April 2013 brakes began pulsating on compression. Mid April frustrated and very concerned with safety called 800 lemon law found on line and kimmel & silverman advised gm / gm responded disclaiming issues. @ 28,429 miles 5/21/13 front rotors replaced and rear rotors resurfaced. Transmission dipstick tube fracture fix: pipe insulation & zip tie. 8/20/13 brakes pulsating again & spongy - vibration noted by service but not addressed. Brought to specialist; right rear rotor grooved & left rear had chatter marks. 8/29/13 went to amco they found 4 codes in truck on gm scanner which dealership denied there were any. Sept. 2013 received bulletin " throttle position sensor may cause engine to run rough ". Getting no-where with gm or dealership and fearing for safety in oct. 2013 I opted to trade the vehicle at a great loss as it was my only transportation. Mind you this was my 2nd Avalanche - the 1st one I'd had a front end accident; air bag never deployed, fortunately I was not injured and deemed the performance issues to be due to the accident and traded into this new Avalanche. I have documentation for all of this and have lost over $30,000 due to gm negligence.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/07/2011

Traveling home from work on the interstate at regulated speed (65mph). As I started to accelerate to maintain speed gingo up a hill, the message "transmission hot" came on the in-dash display and engine began revving as if not in gear. I could not accelerate and had to turn on flashers and merge to safety lane on right. I continued to slow down until I could engage the transmission again at around 30 mph in 3rd gear. As soon as I started to accelerate past 35-40 mph, the transmission slipped again and would not engage any gear. This happened all the way home so what should have been a 20 minute drive turned into an hour. I couldn't get above 35-45 mph without this happening each time which made navigating the hills of northern va in the rain not very fun for me nor the hundreds of frustrated drivers behind and beside me. As I pulled into the driveway and parked, I could notice a 'burnt and sour" smell. . . Most likely transmission fluid. I didn't see any leaks or drips but the engine was extremely hot as was transmission and transfer case. This has been happening off and on for a few months now but in very limited occasions and never for more than 10-20 seconds so I haven't contacted a service station but will definitely do so this weekend as I am unable to leave work during the week for this issue.

I was driving my truck and the speedometer was reading 60 and when I look down again it was reading 120. I stop and started again then I realize that it was not reading now. My fuel, rpm, oil pressure gauges stop also. I had a mechanic look at it and they said it was the cluster. I research and I notice that all these vehicle is having the same problems. I think that chevy should be responsible for this defective item. I brought this truck new and I did'nt think that I would be having any problems like this. 34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

I believe the same problem with the gm key/ignition switch is more common then what is being reported. The Avalanche 2003 has had the same loose ignition switch for years. Our key system has to be jiggled and forced to the start position 80 percent of the time. The ignition switch will also move the off position while the vehicle is moving and the key will fall out.
