Five problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After using the cruise control the first time on the highway at 65mph , it stuck and would not shut off. The vehicle accelerates to a dangerous speed and the breaks barely helped. Even after turning the car off taking out the battery and putting it back, it did not reset. Cruise will not disengage.
The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving with the cruise control activated at 50 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop. Instead, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, turned off the engine, and restarted the vehicle. In addition, while the vehicle was in park, it unintentionally accelerated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.
The accelerator stuck while pulling out of a parking lot at 10 mph consumer made her way back into the empty parking lot, turned the vehicle off while still in gear. Cruise control was off. Consumer heard a loud noise prior to the occurrence.
While driving on highway put cruise control on, but it wouldn't disengage. Had to put vehicle in neutral, and cut vehicle off to solve problem.
The cruise control was engaged for 60 mph. The consumer attempted to disengage the cruise control, but it locked up, therefore the consumer had to remove the key from the ignition in order to get the vehicle to stop.
