Wiring problems of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Two problems related to wiring have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2004

Our 2001 Chevrolet blaze caught on fire while parked about 5 minutes after being turned off. The entire engine and front end are scorched. The interior has smoke and water damage. At this time, we have not heard from our insurance adjuster to know the extent - totalled or repairable? the vehicle had been to the dealer one week prior because the rear tailgate wouldn't open. They replaced the actuator and don't believe their work was in any way related to the fire. We purchased the vehicle from the dealer 10 months ago - it had 31,000 miles on it and we only put 5,000 miles on it. I have filed a complaint with gm and believe that they should be responsible and pay out on the loss - not our insurance company.

2 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2003

Gas gauge goes to empty and "low fuel" light comes on at anytime while driving, stays on for several seconds to several minutes and then gauge goes back to correct reading and light goes out. After several weeks of this "service engine soon" light came on. Personal technician reported that this is a common problem in vehicles of all brands and related to, the gas cap. Advised to turn gas cap for at least 3 clicks when done fueling and not to take the cap off the tank when the motor is running. Replaced gas cap and reset the computer, it was fine for 2 weeks. Gauge acting up again, mechanic going to pull tank and check if a lose baffle is interfering with the sending unit. May have to replace sending unit.
