Windshield Wiper/washer Problems of Chevrolet C1500

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet C1500. The contact felt that his vehicle should be included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v159000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer). While driving at an unknown speed in the rain, the windshield wipers would not work. He pulled off the road and grabbed the wiper arm blade, which caused the windshield wipers to turn on and off. Windshield washer and wiper started malfuntion during all cycles of normal operation leaving driver to halt vehicle until rain subsides or wipers resume function. Unsafe to use due to unreliability and complete failure of visibility during rainy weather.

Have a 1997 chevy C1500 full size truck and the windshield wipers failed. They work when they want to and they turn off when they want. Almost got in to a accident because they stopped with no warning in the middle of a downpour. Then they start back up a few minutes later then repeated its self. Now there is a recall for 1997 trucks but my VIN# was not included.

When driving in a hurricane induced rainstorm the windshield wipers stopped. Unable to see, this was the first time this had happened. Had to pull off road because was unable to see. These wipers were inactive for 10-15 minutes. They started back functioning on their own. They worked for about 5-7 minutes before stopping again. Consumer opened hood and shook wiring to windshield wipers and they became active again. However they were working intermittently afterwards. Did contact manufacturer, filed complaint and they noted by this problem was due to sodered joints and connector pins that cause malfunction. No repairs have been made but plan to have repairs as of tomorrow.

Consumer was driving in the rain July 7, 2005 when the windshield wipers on the vehicle failed. At first the wipers would not work at all, then when the consumer drove for about 20 minutes the wipers came back on. Consumer had the problem fixed at the dealer today, July 8, 2005, and paid $161. 00 . The dealer is pohanka Chevrolet in chantilly, va. Consumer would like a refund for fixing the problem. The consumer wants her vehicle and others like hers included in the recall. Consumer says that her husband just informed her that this happened to him about a year ago. The dealer told the consumer that the problem listed in recall is what they fixed on her vehicle.

Windshield washer reservoir leaks and drains totally empty upon activating wiper switch. The hose"blows"out of the unit. I have had truck in for service three times(including today) and they can't figure out the problem as yet.

Windshield wipers will intermittently fail to operate when switched on regardless of speed or mode. This problem has gotten worse in the last week or two, and I am getting ready to take the truck to a trusted non-dealer repair facility to have the problem fixed. Is this problem common with gm products (esp. Chevy trucks) of that age? it is a safety-related issue. The date cited above is only the most recent of several failures.

Nhtsa no. 98v150 covers till may 1996 my truck was manf. Aug 1996 same problems, wipers will not work intermittent and quit while driving the other day @ 70 mph in heavy rains.
