The windshield wipers on my 1997 Chevrolet c-1500 pick-up truck function intermittently. At the first rain of the season, the wipers would not work. Thirty minutes later, the wipers began working again. The wipers have failed to function on six separate occasions now. For an unexplainable reason, they resume working after waiting a period of time ranging from ten to thirty minutes. The truck cannot be driven when the wipers are not working. (safety issue and vehicle code violation) no repairs yet taken. Rumor circulating that gm may recall the wiper circuitry board.

Windshield wipers run intermittently, at various speeds, and do not shut off when the switch is moved to the off position. I have written to gm and been to the dealer about this problem. My vehicle is not covered due to a VIN cutoff in the recall program, even though it is the same defect and part as in the vehicles covered in the recall. This is unacceptable. . Lee anderson.
Intermittently windshield wipers become inoperable, obstructing the driver's view. Recall has been issued on similar makes and models. Dealer notified.
I own a 1997 Chevrolet C1500 pickup and a 1998 GMC yukon in which both vehicles are having problems with the windshield washer/wiper motors. The windshield wipers never work when I need them to. On several occasions my husband and I have had to pull off the road when it rains due to no visibility. It is extremely dangerous and I don't agree with the gm inspector who said it was not a safety issue. It is a potentially fatal defect in their product and I don't think I should be held responsible for fixing it. There have been recalls for earlier model vehicles, but mine were not included. Something should be done about this.
When driving in the rain windshield wipers failed, causing the driver to pull off the road. Consumer contacted the dealership, but problem recurred.
While traveling on highway windshield wipers will come on intermittently. Dealership is aware of problem.
Windshield wiper/ washer fail intermittently, sometimes during heavy rains. The shop (non dealer) replaced the circuit board, and stated that GMC have a history of doing this. I cannot locate a recall on a 96 C1500. All I can find is a 96 c10. Is there a recall, and if not, are there other reports of this problem occuring on 96 C1500's?.
Windshield wipers work on an intermittent basis. Some vehicles manufactured in the years 1994 through part of the year in 1997 have been recalled for this problem. I have been told by chevy hotline that my vehicle, 1998 chevy silverado, is not covered under the recall even though the problem is the same.
Manufacturer claims this is not covered by recall even though they have one for models built from 8/94 through 6/96. My vehicle was built 8/96. I have had frequent intermitent failures of the windshield wipers.

Whenever using windshield wipers they will just quit. Then, consumer has to get out in the rain and play under hood, and windshield wipers will start again. There's bulletin # 98043 that describes the same problem.
Windshield wiper motor works intermittently. Please add additional information.
Whenever it is raining or snowing windshield wipers will either not come on at all, or if they do, you can't turn them off. During the times that the windshield wipers won't work properly, the windshield washers will not operate. If the wipers or washers are used during a period of dry weather, they both work properly. There is a recall out on certain trucks just like mine for this very same problem, but Chevrolet says my truck does no qualify for this recall because it was built in a different plant. It is my opinion that even tho my truck was assembled in another plant, the circuit board mentioned in the recall could have been assembled in the same plant as the defective ones and then installed on my truck at the other plant. The nhsta safety bulltein that mentions this defect on the 1996 Chevrolet c-1500's is "campaign number 98v150001". The Chevrolet number is "campaign number 98043". I have called nhsta several times over this issue and have been told by the lady on the phone that the safety bulletin in question doesn't even exist. I have given her the campaign number and still she says she has no idea what I am talking about. How can nhsta put out bulletins and not have a clue how to track them. If my mechanic can find them, why can't nhsta's own employees find them? " I have taken this truck off the road until I can resovle this situation because I don't want to put the lives of my daughters and other drivers at risk because of the defective solder joints on the circuit board that control my wipers, therefore the visibility of the driver is impaired. Please look into this and see if Chevrolet can't be made to extend this recall to all of their trucks that have this defect on it, regardless of where it was assembled.
Windshield wipers stopped working intermittently during operation. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under mmanufacturer's recall due to VIN.
While driving in rainy weather conditions windshield wipers became inoperable, cause unknown.
I received information about a product recall regarding the windshield wipers on Chevrolet trucks. When I contacted a local dealer I was told that the VIN of my truck was not included in the recall. I want to pursue having my vehicle included in the nthsa campaign id number: 150000 because I have already expierenced and had repaired the condition described in the recall.
Due to the defective circuit board windshield wipers malfunctioned, causing visual difficulty and may result in a crash. There is a recall for this problem. But this vehicle is not included in the recall due to VIN. Please provide further information.
Windshield wipers malfunction due to a defective circuit board, causing visibility problems which may result in a crash. There is a recall for this problem, but this vehicle is not included in the recall due to VIN.
Windshield wipers work intermittently. Sometimes they stop in the middle of a storm. Consumer feels this is very unsafe because one never knows when it may happen. Dealer said that VIN was outside thier on file recall, so owner had to pay for repairs.
Web complaint sites also indicating same failure. Windshield wiper motor will not run if the weather is rainy or damp. As soon as moisture is in the air, the wiper motor will not activate. If you leave the wiper switch in the on position, it will eventually start. Meantime, you are traveling in rain, and you have no wiper action to clear the window. Web sites indicate many complaints on this issue. Response indicates that moisture gets into circuit boards controlling wiper motor and shorts out the circuit. Another situation for a GMC recall.
Windshield wipers operate intermittently during use. Nthsa campaign 98v150000 addresses this issue for vehicles of the same make, model, and year of manufacturing. However, Chevrolet has not included my vehicle in the recall. I paid for service identical to that required by the recall campaign to correct the problem on 4/5/99 and was told by the dealership that I would have to contact Chevrolet for reimbursement. Chevrolet maintains that since my vehicle VIN was not included in the recall, they have no obligation to cover the expense (chev case #: 990184509). I believe Chevrolet should expand their recall to include my vehicle and any others of the same make, model, and year that experience the failure described in the recall.
