2 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C2500

Failure Date: 02/15/2002

Loud hard knocking noise coming from engine at cold start up. Then after engine is warmed up after driving and deceleration you can still hear the knocking noise, just not as loud as at cold start. Taken to dealership, and advised Chevrolet was aware of problem, and did not have a solution. Advised by dealer it would not hurt engine, but I disagree, the very hard knocking can not be good for the valves, or crankshaft, and has to be causing some sort damage within the engine itself.

Engine has a loud knocking noise since day one. Reported problem to Chevrolet dealership and was told that the pistons are "slapping" inside the cylinder walls and that this was a known problem from Chevrolet. New pistons will not be available until December 2001. Changed oil and found metal fragments in the oil that were stuck to the magnetic oil bolt. Noise problem is getting louder each week. Dealer rep called and explained the problem to me directly.
