3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/15/2017

I was on my way to my dentist appointment, suddenly a hissing noise came from the car. All of the dashboard lights came on and I knew I was in trouble. I was on a busy intersection in the city. I had to act in a split second and steer quickly off of the nearest side ride. The steering wheel was locking up. I had just enough power to get safely off of the street in time and to keep from getting hit from behind. I was in motion on a city street. The car was trouble from day one. I believe it was a flooded out car sold to the unsuspectithat unsuspecting person was me. I got suckered out of over $2400. I have paid for at least 2 new cars with the money I have spent on this lemon. By the way the shady owner don't feel responsible at all for scamming my money out of me.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

No one ( auto shops) can find the issue. They have zero answers. This is dangerous and has caused accidents. I would be banned from the internet if I said what I really want to say to chevy. The most recent time this happened was yesterday. . . Aug 3rd 2017.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I was driving on the highway at about 65 mph when my car unexpectedly increased it's speed to about 80-90 mph. I initially thought the car accidentally some kind of way made cruise control come on. I am not a fan of cruise control so I wouldn't have turned it on. After the acceleration, I quickly attempted to get my car back down to normal driving speed because I was on the highway and did not want to crash with anyone by accident. I quickly stomped my foot on the brake. This did not help at all. Matter of fact, my brakes locked up too. I couldn't control the brakes nor the gas. The gas continued to accelerate. At this point, I am doing about 100 mph. I thought quickly and maneuvered my way out of traffic. I almost hit several cars but there was some type of protection around me because I didn't even have a single scratch on me or the car. The car continued to accelerate despite my several attempts to slow down. I was able to gain a little control of the car by putting the emergency brake up and placing the car in neutral. This only slowed the car down to about 80 mph. I had to turn the switch off the stop the car. I attempted to crank the car but the engine only revved up and made my car smoke. This was a very dangerous situation that was out of my control. I almost lost my life and may have been the cause of death for innocent families on the road. I know I am not the only person that has unexpectedly had this to happen.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

After accelerating over 35mph vehicle continues to accelerate. Vehicle able to stop but you can still hear and feel the motor to continue to accelerate and the vehicle starts to jerk around. Its very unsafe and no one at the car shop able to tell me exactly what is wrong. I've had several things fixed and still having the same problem. The vehicle sometimes after starting up will accelerate on it own.

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

2004 Cavalier, 2. 2l dohc, 5-speed manual transmission. While driving at 60 mph vehicle felt as if cruise control was engaged. Rpms would not fall off as fast as usual when foot taken off gas, and when I depressed the clutch (which was just replaced last week due to another known issue that chevy refuses to recall) rpms went above 4,000. Tapped gas pedal thinking maybe it was stuck and it only revved higher and did not come down on its own. Rpms continued to climb as I came to a stop, around 6,000 by the time I pulled over. Shut the car off and immediately back on, no problems for the rest of the trip home (another 8 miles). I cannot risk my car revving at 6,000 rpms in stop and go traffic which I'm in every weekday and I can't shut it off and turn it back on to fix the problem, so I have to find out what causes it and fix it ASAP. Thanks for another spendy repair, chevy.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

My son was pulling into a parking lot and as he describes it, everything but the radio went dead all by itself (the engine died and there was no power steering or brakes). Obviously the same symptoms as the current recalls. I called the dealer and was told the car isn't on the list. I've complained to chevy and am getting the runaround by multiple members of their "consumer support team" (we've assigned you a service request number but I am to wait until it happens again and then bring it in "so we could start reviewing on your case"). I took it to my own mechanic and he ran a bunch of tests but couldn't find anything that would cause the car to die.

Was at a stop light and car just konked out and would not start again. I tried and tried but to no avail. Had to push it into a gas station about 100 yards, not easy as a 50 year old female (no one stopped to help me, just sped by). I have seen hundreds of complaints on-line that this has been an habitual problem with this make and model. It only has 71,000 miles on it and I just purchased the first part of 2012???? what is up? this many problems should have involved a recall!.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

I replaced the battery on my 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier 2. 4l with manual transmission about 3 days ago. Today as I was driving to get gas the vehicle started to idle low as if it was not getting enough fuel to the engine. As I came to a stop it got worse and then I check the dash for any indication of malfunction only to see my airbag, check engine, abs, check oil & battery lights flickering. Moments later as I shift into 3rd gear it dies rendering all safety and normal operation of the vehicle nearly impossible. I had to call a friend to jump me 3 more times before reaching my home which was less than a mile away!.

Failure Date: 09/20/2009

The first incident that occur was in 2009. It was that the switch of the key engine did not want to start. Someone came to fix it but could not find a way to repair it. He had to add a button under the steering wheel and I would be tuning the key to the engine to start I would have to push that button to start the car. 23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/02/2009

I own a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier LS sedan with approximately 86,300 miles on it. Without warning the car died and would not start on a busy July 4th weekend along I-55 north bound near litichfield, IL. I t would not restart, and subsequent investigation resulted in the fact finding that it was the fuel pump. Apparently this is a major problem with this make and model vehicle. I request that gm be required to recall this make and model to address the problem and reimburse owners for out of pocket expenses. I have always owned american cars, but an serious considering a Toyota next year.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 04/17/2009

Speedometer stopped working at 32200 miles, went to dealer, said approximate cost is $500. 00, talked with mechanic and he said it is very common problem on all gm mid 2000's cars and trucks. Checked online, found numerous complaints and a couple places that said gm is taking care of the problems on the trucks under 70,000 miles but not the cars. I consider the speedometer to be safety related on a car as well as on a truck and do not understand why gm will not take care of a problem that they have been aware of for a couple years.

Failure Date: 07/20/2008

Coming home from milwaukee at 12:30 am with son after seeing race in slinger, WI. On interstate, car lost complete engine power and became dead. Closest gm dealership in watertown, WI went out of business last year (per tow truck driver). Had towed to dealership where they diagnosed a bad fuel pump and a price of over $800. Came to pick up with a trailer and asked for help pushing car on trailer. They said you could drive it up as the mechanic tapped the fuel tank and it started. Drove around the block a few times last week with no problems. I explained this to gm, told them about their poor design and that this is not safe because it will fail at any time and could cause a major accident. Was given case #71-648948392 (told no recalls were available per my VIN #). Checked on internet (topix. Com) and over 400 have had similar problems.

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

Car will accelerate on it's own usually occurs while slowing down or while making a turn pressing the brake hard slows the car but it continues to apply power what stops the engine from continuing to accelerate is to push the clutch in, at the moment the engine will accelerate to 6500 rpm then return to normal like it is completing some cycle. It is very dangerous in the winter. We have expected a recall but nothing. I can guarantee a lawsuit if my wife and kids are injured. This is a true case of sudden acceleration that the feds can investigate.
