Engine Belts And Pulleys Problems of Chevrolet Cavalier

Engine shakes when first started n when idling, but not when driving. Hoses n belts r not in good shape. Not sure about the air bags but seen on this site that there was a problem. I have seen that there are or where, quit a few recalls that were not taken care of. Especially safety ones.

I also have a 1999 chevy Cavalier z24 and the dash has cracked at the middle of the windshield. . . Also doors freeze shut in winter. . . Problems with water pump. . . It seized up and caused problems with the timing chain & serpentine belt. . . Resulted in a lot of expense to fix. . . Repairman stated the most of the parts on these engines should have been recalled. . . Lots of issues with them. . . . Love my car but it's getting expensive to repair now that it's older. . .

My 2003 chevy Cavalier has been experiencing intermittent startup issues and occasional "chugging" while driving - seemed like the car would lurch ahead at times, has also briefly stalled at lights. On 10/11/08, the car would briefly turn over and start for less than a minute, shut off, and afterwards refused to start. Had car towed from my residence to mechanic shop who alerted me that fuel pressure was low. Fuel electronics were functioning as per computer check, turned out to be a bad fuel pump. Car is at ~110,300 miles. Had spark plugs, fuel filter, engine belt replaced in March & April of 2008.

I am the owner of a 1996 4 door, 2. 2 liter Chevrolet Cavalier automobile that has a faulty timing belt tensioner. The tensioner went and the timing belt skipped, thus causing major damage to the vehicle engine. This vehicle flaw is well documented in some car review magazines.

Consumer engine makes a popping sound as if it is going to exploded. The consuemr replaced the timing gear, chain, tensioner, and pulley on 2/22/2005. The vehicle continues to make loud noises.

Contact states the timing chain on her vehicle broke on a busy road. The timing chain has been replaced, but within 6 months the timing chain broke again. The engine was replaced in the vehicle. The car started making a loud knocking noise, now the vehicle will only go approximately 15 mph.

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. The consumer stated there was a constant problem with the timing chain gear, tensioner, and chain itself. It was replaced on February 22, 2005, and needed to replaced again. The dealership spotted the problem, but since the vehicle was out of warranty it was taken to a firestone service station. The engine sounded like it about to fall out. There was a lot of popping and cracking noise, that was how this was noticed.

Timing chain broke at about 45 mph, causing engine to fail. Results determined by the dealer showed that timing chain shattered, tearing up the engine.

Knocking noise keeps getting louder. Happens all time happens more when speeding up.

I took my car in for a noise in the engine. After I had the car serviced I was then informed that a guide for the timing chain broke and the timing chain bent a baring on the cam shaft.

Vehicle stalls when air conditioner is running. Dealer cannot remedy situation. Seat belt failed to work. Vehicle rolls when emergency brake is applied.

Serpentine belt failed.

While driving over wet or puddles the vehicle malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to stall, which almost caused an accident. Dealer replace the serptine belt. Problem reoccurring. Been to dealer several times. Dlr cannot determine problem. Cause unknown. Please provide details.

When the car is driven through a puddle the serpentine belt gets wet, the vehicle cannot be steered, and the driver cannot control the vehicle.

When serpintine belt gets wet when driving through puddle, vehicle stalls for a moment and experiences loss of control. Nlm.
