6 Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

I have noticed a lot and I mean a lot of these cavilers have had horriable frame problems I use to work on cars everyday until the last year when I got out of the mechanics field an now I own a 03 chevy caviler its a two door 5 speed 2. 2 I was on my way home from the store and I felt something rubbing so I stopped an got out to find out my k frame was horriably rotted an broke now this vehicle is 13 years old but as rotted out as it was it wasn't something that just happened its been bad I was just the lucky owner that the frame gave out on an I demand to know why this isn't a recall another thing is I owned a 98 Ford f150 which had recalls an wen I was sent the letter about the recalls I asked Ford why the frames on the f150 or ranger wasn't a recall they had no answer. I put my child in these auto makers cars and trust their work to keep him safe but they have no answer for why one of the most important part on the whole vehicle is falling apart. I don't know if they need to use stainless steel, aluminium, or what but it needs fixed or the vehicles need reimbursed an crushed. I could of been doing 70 mph down the highway with my woman an son in the car an the frame could of went and killed us all. Is that what its gonna take to get this shit fixed someone else to die/hurt.

7 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

The cluster is out and I can't tell how much fuel, the speedometer is out and also the temp gage as well.

8 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 10/12/2015

The speedometer and tachometer register below zero when stopped or in motion. No way to tell the speed or rpm. This is a safety issue to all on the road. If controlling speed is not a safety issue worth recalling why do we have speed limits? NHTSA needs to take this seriously and launch a recall as this is a major issue and not isolated its very widespread and the fact they have neglected it shows there real lack of concern for safety.

9 Equipment problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

On October 1st 2015 we were stopped for road construction on the highway. At that time we were rear ended by a hit and run driver. Impact was on the bumper, passenger side. On impact the passenger seat broke and slammed me forward then back into a reclining position. I was taken to hospital by ambulance. I was in pt for 6 weeks. Also airbag did not deploy.

The safety device light came on. It won't go off, can't start my car.

11 Equipment problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I was driving on the highway at about 65 mph when my car unexpectedly increased it's speed to about 80-90 mph. I initially thought the car accidentally some kind of way made cruise control come on. I am not a fan of cruise control so I wouldn't have turned it on. After the acceleration, I quickly attempted to get my car back down to normal driving speed because I was on the highway and did not want to crash with anyone by accident. I quickly stomped my foot on the brake. This did not help at all. Matter of fact, my brakes locked up too. I couldn't control the brakes nor the gas. The gas continued to accelerate. At this point, I am doing about 100 mph. I thought quickly and maneuvered my way out of traffic. I almost hit several cars but there was some type of protection around me because I didn't even have a single scratch on me or the car. The car continued to accelerate despite my several attempts to slow down. I was able to gain a little control of the car by putting the emergency brake up and placing the car in neutral. This only slowed the car down to about 80 mph. I had to turn the switch off the stop the car. I attempted to crank the car but the engine only revved up and made my car smoke. This was a very dangerous situation that was out of my control. I almost lost my life and may have been the cause of death for innocent families on the road. I know I am not the only person that has unexpectedly had this to happen.

12 Equipment problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

Car will not start consistently. Have to wait a couple of days, then it may start or not. But if it starts, it will not start again until days go by. . . . . . . . . . . . Ignition shut off on one occasion when operating on a public road. Loss of power, engine and power brakes. Steering wheel did not lock but coasted vehicle off the road.

16 Equipment problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/18/2014

Daughter was driving to go to another location when stopped for light. Light turned green had some one in front of her and since it is a stick shift she just let the car roll. She panicked I think and hit clutch instead of brake. She rolled into the back of the SUV ahead of her and the airbags exploded in the car. She was only going 4 miles an hour. No damage to the car in front of her no front damage to our car except the air bags and breakage of front window. Daughter was hit in face by airbag and the fingers cut with with the window breaking. She has received 2 black eyes and said she was very disoriented when the airbag hit her. We are very concerned about this. We have had the car for 3 years and have not been in any accidents fontal wise. I went through to see if we had a carfax on this car. The compay told that there had not been in any accidents. My concern is that if I was driving the car I am short and with it being a clutch I have to sit close. So I really would have been hurt. Why would the airbags explode at only 4 miles an hour? please respond soon as this has to be taken care of for the insurance. Thank you.

17 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

Bought used had 109000 first time the clutch went out on me I was exhilirating to move into heavy freeway traffic and it goes out, especially as a young woman I was very scarred for my life to this day I have nightmares, got it fixed but no really cause it still does it we just have to keep putting dot 3 at the clutch line. Its annoying, a waste of time, waste of my money, and has caused domestic disputes. Come on do something please!!.

18 Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

On or about March 8th, 2014, I noticed that holes had appeared on the drivers and passenger side of the vehicle on the bottom and when I went to further exam the hole, I then realized the underside of the car is completely corroded. The sheet metal on the passengers side is coming off in sheets and the the hole has become much larger in size. Also, the vehicle pulls to the left and right pretty strongly. The inside floor of the car feels squishy like the floor is going to fall out. Higher speeds seem to make more sheet metal fall off.

19 Equipment problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

My 1987 chevy cavaliar shut off in the middle of driving multiple times. The first time I heard clicking in the cluster and the theft system light turns on and my fuel pump shuts down. I have been in very critical places while this situation takes place. The theft system has shut my vehichle off on the highway, in the intersection ect. . I have tryed to reset this system numerous times. I have come to the knowledge that this is a serious problem with many chevy cavaliars and other gm models. This should be a recall and should be fixed. I, a loyal gm customer, should not have to drive a unpredictable vehichle that has security problems that are due to the original making of the system. I have no money to pay for this and am stuck with this problem. It is very unsafe.

20 Equipment problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

The ignition switch locked and would not operate. First there was a problem with the ignition turning on and shutting off. Then after the vehicle was parked, the ignition would not switch on. Just like the information disseminated about the chevy cobalt, but a year before the announced recall. I contacted gm but they indicated that my make, model and year was not part of the recall. However, I had to install a ignition cyclinder and key kit according to my repair invoice. I believe that should a total review of gm vehicles of the ignition part as a defective product.

21 Equipment problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

Purchased vehicle from dealer 7/12/13 with the following issues: non-working odometer, blinkers, brake lights that frequently "short" out & a non-working windshield fluid function. I was informed by the dealer to take vehicle home & return it the following day for the repairs of all the above notations that were discovered during a test drive. Upon the time of return, I was sadly & rudely approached by the dealer. He stated that he did not claim to fix these issues? on 7/17/13, I filed a "complaint" with the better business bureau regarding this poor business transaction. All of which, I have proof. Despite my endless efforts to correct this issue, nothing significant has been done on my behalf. I have been pulled over a number of times, because of my failing brake lights - which have been replaced on multiple occasions. I have had close encounters of potential dangerous situations, where my blinkers have failed & being stuck "not" knowing how much mileage I have on my car. This is a major safety issue I cannot get resolved & am hopeful that you may assist.

22 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

I am concerned because of the ignition recall. For the last several months, at random times, if I touched the keys which were in the ignition, more often than not, the overhead dome light would either flicker or actually go on for several seconds to a minute before shutting off. This is not a result of pulling them so that they are not solidly inserted, but due to being jostled. This has happened when the car is running, or not running, and occasionally when I insert the key in the ignition. I do not believe this, in itself, is a problem unless it is an indication that this may progress into a more serious problem.

23 Equipment problem of the 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

Ignition switch shuts off when going down the road and when it hits a bump in the road.

24 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 11/22/2012

Erratic and erroneous speed indicator. Speed indicator points to 55-60 mph while vehicle is at a stop and indicates 110+ mph while actual speed is 50-55 mph. Currently, problem occurs after vehicle is driven around 100 miles. A simple powering off the ignition does not clear problem. This problem is very upsetting and unsettling. General motors current cost to it customers of $660 for correcting this problem is inexcusable. This is a defective material safety issue and as such should be subject to a safety recall !.

25 Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

Power suddenly shut off, causing power steering to fail, which made me wreck into a ditch. It also caused the airbags to not deploy and prevented seatbelts from locking into place when the brakes were hit.

26 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 06/23/2011

Accelerator stuck on 2004 chevy Cavalier. Engine was wide open and gas pedal was down to floor. Got car off road with no incident. Cable was found to be frayed from corrosion and stuck inside housing. Called gm and recieved no assistance . They said vehicle was out of warranty. Replace with new cable at repair shop. This should never happen on a modern era vehicle.

27 Equipment problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 01/06/2011

2005 chevy Cavalier speedometer stopped working. On-line research from owners of this car shows that repair of the speedometer is not possible and the part alone is averaging $300. Again complaints are on the fact tht the speedometer is not repairable.

28 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 12/30/2010

First of all my instrument cluster fails, sometimes you know how fast you are going, what your tack is and you fuel level, sometimes you don't. I have never really known my mileage since I have owned the car. I also have issues with the car occasionally not wanting to start or reving of the engine and all of my dummy lights coming on I was told that is my ignition switch, however when I contacted gm they informed me Cavaliers used a different switch than the ones in the recall. Ok. Both of these are safety issues, I was going to give this car to my son for his first car, but no way! I can not teach him how to drive in it, because the cluster doesn't function and the ignition switch issues. Gm will not issue a recall for this vehicle and knows there are issues, pretty sure last gm I will own.

29 Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

"check engine" light keeps coming back on for the same issue, supposedly the "air intake temp sensor, replaced that one and several sensors repeatedly, had the complete wiring harness connections checked and cleaned, even replaced my ecm and bcm [neither of which was cheap], and still has "check engine" light, even after being "cleared" over and over again -- this car was well maintained and the body and sub-frame are severely rotting out left and right -- had a weird leak on the pass. Side front, under the dash. It comes and goes. The car smells like an old sneaker inside. Water would pour out of the passenger side heater duct, but there was no rhyme or reason to it. One I even had soap foam from a drive thru car wash literally come blowing in to the cabin, thru the very same heater duct. Thankfully it has seemingly cleared up, but it is still a head scratcher. I've taken my car to several dealerships, privately owned shops, and even had some "car savvy" friends look her over, as well as my dad [ands ase certified tech], and the check engine light still comes back every time. If I would have known I'd put this much money into a car that literally ready to break apart, I would have saved my money to put towards another car. Live and learn, I guess. She was doing so well for 10 or 11 years and it's like she just started "giving up" on me. She's got 165k on her and the pain has gone to crap, but that's gm for you, kept her garaged, waxed regularly, had her looking showroom new, until recently, the paint's clear coat started to "stipple" [sharp bumps] and bubble all over top panels, starting with the roof, then hood, and now trunk. It's embarrassing to drive her, and I am not paying to repaint her, I already have way too much into a car that likely will not pass inspection coming up in August. I'm now handicap'd and disabled, fixed income, can't afford a new car.

30 Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Went to start car to go to store and it would not start. Luckily it was at home when it decided to stop working. Towed to garage and they said it was the fuel pump. The garage replaced the fuel pump and it fixed the no start issue. I had no idea that this was the process to start a recall investigation or I would have said long ago. There has been lots of recalls lately on gm and this same Cavalier decided not to start twice after the fuel pump, once in 2011 was the timing chain then again December 2012 that I still have to diagnose which led me to research recalls. Each time the car stopped working luckily it was in my driveway each and every time. The timing chain there was some warning, it would sometimes buck, other times it was fussy on starting and it would stall at stop lights. I will report a new issue if I can find out the 3rd unknown 2012 issue.

31 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/07/2006

Air bags did not come out car flipped over twice and there was 1 death and 1 injury.

32 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

When driving the vehicle and hit a bump the ignition switch will cause the interior light to come and on occasion cause the car to shut off.

33 Equipment problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 10/12/2003

While braking, there is a slight noise coming from the front of the vehicle -- replaced suspension (springs and struts).

34 Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/01/2003

: the contact stated that there were three problems with the vehicle. The automatic windows failed to roll either up or down. The second problem occurred with the trunk; water continually leaked into the trunk. The third problem was related to the brakes; they were no longer working at only 25000 miles. The brake light illuminated and made a squealing noise as soon as brake pressure was applied. The dealer determined the trunk was not installed properly. Although the dealer fixed the trunk, the problem persists. When it rain, water still leaks in the trunk. The water leak has been an ongoing problem since July 2003.
