Fuel leaking from fuel lines leaving fuel pump at gas tank. Strong odor of fuel inside and outside of car. Leaves wet spot on ground under car near passenger side rear wheel about 18 inches in diameter while parked. Hard starting. Contacted Chevrolet and a dealer and they said it was not covered on a recall.
The fuel pump is defective and leaking gas this is a recal on the 2006 models and up but not on a 2005 model. There are endless complaints online about the 2005 models leaking gas but there are no recals on it yet.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that there was an overpowering odor of gasoline being emitted from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that there was a crack in the fuel pump. The contact referenced NHTSA recall campaign id number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery fuel pump) however, the contact was advised that the recall was only issued for the 2006 and 2007 model year vehicles. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 12,100. Kmj.
