38 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

I live in buffalo, NY so this is more of a problem than not. During the cold months whent he temperature goes below 20 degrees the car fails to start. I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, intake, mass air flow sensor, and battery. I will be trying the crankshaft position sensor next. The car will crank strong, and continue to crank for several minutes. It will then stop, and begin to crank again when the key is again turned. However the car never turns over. The only thing I can imagine is that something is communicating with the ecm or ecu, not to start. This only occurs when it is very cold out as I purchased the car in late September, therefore I have to experience with the vechile in warm temperatures.

39 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I have the smell of gasoline coming from the car and find that it is coming from the area of the gas tank. After further investigation I find that certain Cobalt models have been recalled for this matter. Where the seal around the fuel pump cracks and leaks. However I am told that for some reason my Cobalt model is not in recall for this situation. Why not. If some of these vehicles have been recalled for this problem then obviously the problem should be corrected with this vehicle as well. I would like to know how I go about getting this problem resolved with this lemon of a car.

40 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

Heavy gas odor and gas leak/spot under car on passenger side at fuel pump area on 2006 Cobalt. Poor gas milage and sluggish performance.

41 Other Fuel System Pump problem

An independent mechanic stated that the return port was cracked and discovered that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

42 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

We can smell gas coming from the car. We can't even put our vehicle in our garage because it smells up the whole house like gasoline. My husband took it apart and said that there is a leak in the fuel pump. I went on line and notice that there was a recall for this but only in certain states. Why is that? what do we do now? we are afraid to drive it because we are afraid that it will catch fire. Please advise.

43 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving varies speed, the contact smelled fuel. The problem occurred numerous of time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and recommended the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

44 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2014

I noticed a smell of gas when entering and exiting the vehicle. When I drive with the windows down I can still smell gas. Any time the vehicle is parked when looking under the car you can see and smell the gas dripping on the ground. Upon further inspection found the fuel pump seal to be leaking thus causing the fuel to leak on the ground. As I researched recalls I found out that there was a recall on the fuel pump in 2006 chevy Cobalts but it was only for certain states. The gm recall number for this is 090226. Every thing that was said in this recall is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. I do not feel that it is fair for me to have to pay for a mistake that was made.

45 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

This complaint is that the fuel pump recall for this car, with NHTSA campaign number: 09v419000, did not show up in the database visible to either my mechanic or a gm dealer. This is a life-threatening part failure, with significant amounts of gasoline leaking from the car, either while it is moving or stopped, and I was never notified of this issue. My car currently has this problem, leaking gasoline at quite a rapid rate. The fuel smell while driving is unbearable. Wherever I park a puddle of gasoline forms under the car. If I parked in a closed garage, this would be a terrible safety issue. It is for good reason that this recall was put in place. However, apparently this issue shows up in the gm system as a "special coverage" and not a recall. I found out about this issue online. I was searching because I was preparing to pay $833 for my mechanic to replace the fuel pump assembly. When I phoned the dealer, he said he had to get to "another screen" to see the special coverage items, and he only did that because I prompted him. Apparently they don't have a system in place to warn car owners of this issue even when the owner has their vehicle in for a recall (which mine was in the last two years). I have also never received a notice of this recall, and I've owned the car since January of 2007. After the recent press coverage of the recall of the ignition switch for this vehicle, I am shocked that this kind of a safety concern is essentially being hidden from public view.

46 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

My vehicle smells of gasoline and has been leaking like crazy. I am getting less than 17 miles per gallon and losing a ton of gas due to the fuel pump recall. I believe that it should be under recall in every state and not just a few. If it is recalled on any 2006 chevy Cobalt I believe it should be recalled on all of them no matter what the state. I live in michigan and therefore its stated there is no recall for it here. I am very disappointed in this and in gm for selling a car with as many recalls as the Cobalt has and only choosing very few states for the recall to be granted. I used to be a huge gm fan but, now after having as many issues as I have had with this car and living in michigan not being able to have it fixed under recall, I no longer feel the same, in fact I am strongly thinking of going foreign. Thanks gm for letting down yet another customer. Please get back to me when you want to take care of your customers everywhere and not just in certain states. This is your fault that the car is so faulty and I think you should stand up and own up to it and fix the chevy Cobalt's no matter what state they are in. How does it even matter what state a person is in anyways a default part is a default part, isn't it?.

47 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

After driving the car there is an odor of gasoline in and around the car. A search for related issues on the internet identified many similar complaints for which the fuel pump fuel lines crack and pump fuel onto the top of the gas tank and then potentially drip onto the exhaust. Additionally, there appears to already be a recall in certain states, however the recall does not cover indiana. This seems like a very dangerous wide-spread defect.

48 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, a fuel odor was in the cabin. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where who stated the fuel pump failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not included in nets campaign number (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 120,000.

49 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

Car smelled of fuel when stopped. Mechanic found crack on fuel pump module and replaced.

50 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

I had noticed a very strong gas odor in my vehicle for awhile when I took it in to get an oil change I inquired about it. While working on the car they noticed a leak coming from the gas tank and made me aware of it and suggested I get it fixed as soon as possible. Once I was able to I looked up the information and found that there was indeed a recall on these vehicles for this particular reason and many consumers were upset about it. I called GMC and they informed me that I was eligible for a special coverage adjustment to replace my fuel pump and I should make an appointment with the dealership. I went to the dealership to make an appointment and they informed me that although it was within the ten year limit it was over 120,000 miles and they would not replace it under the special coverage adjustment. Obviously this car is eight years old and the chances of any vehicle that old being under 120,000 miles is absurd! and I was told in a very rude manner that if my car blew up because of this it was not their problem. I have only owned this car for a year and a half and was not made aware that this was a recall or special issue upon purchase even though it has apparently been recorded since 2009. It is completely and utterly ridiculous that they are not more pro-active in the rectification of this issue as it is endangering lives!.

51 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LS. The contact stated that he noticed a strong odor of fuel and shortly after a leak. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. After diagnosis, they advised him that there was a fracture in the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The current mileage was approximately 73,000. The VIN was unavailable.

52 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

This is the second time I have faced spending hundreds of dollars to replace a part with a known problem. The first time was nhsta complain #10419243 filed on 08/12/2011. At the time, I issued a complaint after having to replace the fuel pump on my 2006 chevy Cobalt because of a crack in the port on top of the pump that is situated on top of the fuel tank. On 3/11/2012 the replacement pump also failed in the exact same spot. At the time, I was driving down the highway when the engine stalled. I later learned there was fuel leaking all over the road under my car. After being towed to an independent repair shop, I was told that the same part had failed again. Though the mechanic tried to find the part itself, he soon learned it is not sold separately and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the entire pump. This time is was over $600 to replace it and together with the $85. 00 tow bill, I have now spent over $1100 on a known defect that would be covered under recall if I lived in one of the states where a recall for this part is in effect. More than 100 complaints have been filed between these two personal incidents. When is someone going to do something about it???!!!!! does someone have to die in a fire before this problem is addressed?.

53 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked she noticed a fuel leak. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. 54 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

Can smell fuel vapor odor from rear of vehicle. Had inspected for leak and found line cracked on top of fuel pump module. This is a fire/safety hazard and this low mileage vehicle should be covered under the safety recall 09v419000 but is not because the car is registered in a "northern" state.

55 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2013

Since I bought this car in may of 2011 I have had nothing but problems. In March of 2012 my fuel pump went out while I was driving due to a recall from several years earlier, which I don't understand why it wasn't replaced before I bought the car especially if I bought if from a dealership. In January of 2013 my gear shift assembly went out luckily after I was done driving and in the process of parking which resulted in my keys getting locked in the ignition. A month later my switch board stopped working in my steering wheel which turns off my signals when I turn and my keys still occasionally get locked in my ignition. My O2 sensor just went out, shortly after I got the car I learned one of my valve covers is leaking oil, and I just replaced my ignition coil pack! I am afraid to drive this car any longer especially with the new recall about the ignition. This car is a hazard to anyone driving it. I should not have this many issues when I have only owned the car for three years. I believe gm should recall the whole car. I tried taking my car to the dealership in February to inquire about the recall and they sent me away and said to wait to receive something in the mail to see if my car qualifies. Seriously??? I'm not sure what actions I should take to ensure my safety. I don't have the money to fix this car that has everything under the hood failing all at once! every day I drive this car I am putting myself in danger. Any information back would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

56 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

I noticed a slight fuel smell from the car which lasted several months. It increased to a strong fuel smell and hard cold starts along with rough idling. It finally led to leaking fuel. I removed the fuel tank and while inspecting it, the fuel line fitting broke off of the fuel pump. There is a current recall for the exact problem, but not in the state I bought or registered my car in. This should apply to all affected vehicles.

57 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

A strong gasoline odor prompted me to take the car to my personal mechanic. Leaking fuel module caused odor, entire fuel pump replaced. I investigated why a non-moving part might fail and discovered a recall, limited to southern states. I called gm customer service and was stonewalled by marvin, ext 42872, who was otherwise courteous. A leaking fuel delivery system is a safety hazard, and I believe gm should: recall all models and reimburse owners for repairs made for this defect.

58 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline fuel odor when being driven or when parked. 60 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

Gas smell coming from inside and outside of the vehicle, took my 2006 chevy Cobalt to the dealership after gm said to do so, the fuel pump module has a crack in it due to manufactured parts being made of plastic. No help covering the cost although there are recalls in several warm weather states but not in indiana we had a very hot summer which caused parts to expand and crack. I think gm should cover the cost of repairs, but the only offered me a 10% discount! I really hope my vehicle doesn't catch on fire! I am so disappointed in gm, I am not going to give up on this I will keep complaining until some one helps me cover the cost!.

61 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Noticed a very strong fuel odor while driving, idling and parked. I took my vehicle to my mechanic to look into the issue. After looking everything over, he notice the pressure hose off the fuel pump was cracked, and that the entire fuel pump would need to be replaced. I then took it to the local dealership and was told they can not fix the issue because of the mileage. I noticed this is a major issue with many 2006 chevy Cobalts and gm need to start fixing their issues.
