7 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

My 2006 chevy Cobalt's power steering is not working. A few days ago the steering felt as if it were sticking. Going into a turn there would be no power steering and I would have to really torque the wheel, then, in the same turn it would suddenly come back on causing me to oversteer and swerve. Now it usually isn't working but occasionally does.

9 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

My 2006 chevy Cobalt has been having this on-going problem since I purchased this vehicle in February 2008. The problem is the steering. Sometimes I have difficulty staying in my lane. When I try to correct the problem the steering wheel is tight and hard to maneuver. We thought the problem was in the alignment but that was ruled out. I have been able to recover and go back into my lane in all instances but this problem has been a hard one to prove and it's an accident waiting to happen.

10 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2010

While driving my 2006 chevy Cobalt the power steering message popped up on the digital read out where is shows the mileage and I noticed that the steering was harder to maneuver. I slowed down and it became very hard to steer. So I turned the car off and looked for any fuses that might have been blown not knowing if there was any and restarted started the engine and everything seemed to be fine. But it did it 3 more times in a 4 mile distance.

11 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

I was driving my 2006 Cobalt on a straight roadway, the power steering went out and was very hard to steer, it does that very frequently now and my pregnant wife is afraid to drive it because of its defect. I think Chevrolet should have to fix this before someone gets hurt or killed because they don't want to back up there product, I think a recall would be very handy for this situation.

12 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2009

Steering wheel is very hard to turn. This happens frequently. If the engine is turned off the problem goes away for a while, but soon returns. So far this problem has not caused an accident, but I am almost afraid to drive the car for fear of one.

13 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2009

While driving the vehicle at highway speeds for approximately 5 minutes, I slowed to make a left turn when I noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, as I looked at the dash to make sure the engine had not died, I noticed that the power steering message was on. After I stopped to attempt to locate the power steering reservoir. . . (which I later determined that this vehicle does not have. ) upon re-starting the vehicle it seemed to work fine. . . For about ten miles. I turned the vehicle off and restarted with a resolution of he problem. The problem re-occurred several times on the way home. The current mileage was 57,102. This vehicle will be parked in until I contact a dealer on Monday to report this problem. I do not feel safe transporting my family in this vehicle. After searching the internet and this site. . . It appears this is a big problem on these vehicles. Gm should look at this carefully and notice that there have been no deaths or injuries>>>>yet>>>! with the current financial troubles of automakers today. . . I doubt the would really want a huge injury or death related lawsuit to be filed against them. Everyone with a voice (and a Cobalt with problems) should make themselves heard and voice these complaints! as Cobalt owners we should consider ourselves lucky just to be able to write a complaint about this problem! something has to be done to correct this issue!.
