1 Radio/tape Cd Player problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

The defect: no audible warning chime when the drivers door is opened after turning off the ignition and leaving the key in the cylinder. There is also no audible chime when the seatbelt is not connected while driving and the turn signals make no audible sounds when on. All audible sounds are played using the vehicles sound system. I saw there has been a recall issued for other gm models with similar problems. This problem is common with this make and model and other similar gm vehicles. My chimes haven't worked right for awhile now. A quick google search shows this is a on going problem with gm radios for a long time. . Read more...

2 Radio/tape Cd Player problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

First the batttery died in the car. After that the car fell apart. The keys became lodged in the ignition and would not come out. The stereo lost all and complete power. Fuses were checked for the radio none were blown. As a result of the keys being stuck in the ignition, it drained power from the battery and I had to turn the interior overhead light to on and the car would then regain power and start. All except the radio. The recall for the iginition cylinder was announced and I had the car serviced at a gm dealer. After the repair of the ignition cylinder the keys still were lodged in the ignition switch. I was told the switch lever needed to be replaced. How could a dead battery cause all of this at once. The radio and electrical issues happened directly after the battery died and never returned back to normal even after purchasing a brand new battery.

3 Radio/tape Cd Player problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

Speakers on the front left of the car had stopped working. There where no radio or turn signal sounds. I am not exactly sure of the date of any of the insidences but one of the times I had 1of the speakers they ordered factory speakers and they also stopped working. I brought it to there attention again and they said that they would look into it and get back to me. I never got an answer and I got busy with work andnlife in general. The car was still under warranty when I brought it up. When I mentioned it again the answer I got was that they could order new (stock) speakers and I was told the cost. This would have been a second replacement and may have worked but I didn't feel I should be the person paying for them. I feel they should have fixed them in the first place.

4 Radio/tape Cd Player problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) loss of warning chimes due to defective drivers door speaker (2007 Cobalt and & 2007 GMC canyon). I am current awaiting repair under the 2nd recall for our Cobalt VIN [xxx](gas leak & loss of steering defects not yet repaired). The letter received from gm warning of the steering defect stated a warning chime would sound and a message on the drivers info cntr would appear. Problem is, the speaker where the warning sounds come from is intermittent. In fact, I cannot tell if I have the blinkers on without looking at the dashboard; something that's not always safe to do. Even though this started shortly after the warranty expired; I asked the dealer to repair it because I considered it unsafe. If a car manufacturer is going to change the role of a speaker from merely producing sound for radio use to sounding safety warning chimes then the speaker ought to have an extended warranty. I am approaching my middle 50's and do not abuse the sound system in the car. In my opinion; this failing speaker is a definite safety issue. In fact, our 2007 GMC canyon is experiencing the same issue. I've recently noticed the drivers door speaker is starting to distort and realized after the Cobalts speaker failed the canyon drivers door speaker also emits warning chimes. As I stated above, if the role of a speaker is to sound warning chimes, then it becomes a possible safety issue when it fails. [xxx].

5 Radio/tape Cd Player problem

Stock am/fm radio - cd player in vehicle would not power on upon start up of vehicle. Problem would not replicate itself for the dealer, as it occurs at random intervals. No time would display on radio. No audio through speakers.
