36 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

Yesterday was on way home from work and car just died on city street with no warning. I somehow managed to get the car to a parking lot and out of traffic. I tried to start the car and no the car wont start back up so I had to have the car towed home. Last week I lost power steering while driving on a rural road and then car started acting like it was going to die. I stopped and when I stopped the car jerked into a forward position. I shut the car off and restarted the car and the transmission was shifting really hard going from 1st to 2nd gear when getting ready to slow down it seemed like the car was a manual and I had it in 5th gear because it was seeming like it was going to stall out because the transmission was idling in the wrong gear as I was slowing down. Sometime the key will get stuck in the ignition and I have the steering column cover off so I can push the white button to release the key. When the keys are not in the ignition the speedometer and the rpm and everything electrical in the car jumps back and forth like the car was on.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Once car warms up, while driving, the automatic transmission does not shift past second (2nd) gear, and will allow red lining without shifting up a gear. When trying to park, the shifter will not allow shifting into park, and the vehicle will pull away under the power of its own idle if the parking brake is not applied, making leaving the vehicle unattended very dangerous. When trying to shift out of park shifter will become stuck in the parking gear. The light illuminating and indicating the gear in which the shifter is in position of goes out, making it very difficult to know if the vehicle is actually in park or reverse especially coupled with the shifter not going fully into the parking gear. When the shifter doesn't quite move into the parking gear it causes the doors to stay locked and sometimes makes the manual locks difficult to use in order to exit the vehicle, it makes the electronic locks completely unusable. Also, why in the world would chevy not put a engine temperature gauge in the dash cluster? how are drivers supposed to know if the engine is overheating, wait until the engine blows up with the driver trapped inside???.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Air bag lights come on car is hard to steer air conditioning does not work any more and I get an engine reduce power light comes on.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

For the past three days driving to and from work my chevy Cobalt has been putting me in danger. When I start to break, sometimes the symbol with a lock and key, and air bag lights will turn on and the car steering wheel would lock and the brakes would come up resulting in the car being turned off while I am on drive. This is dangerous because I cannot turn the wheel and the brake is also locked. I get out of my car in the middle of traffic to push it by myself then jump in it and try to start it. This method works sometimes but is dangerous to not only myself but more importantly others. I do not know what is the main cause for this issue however I did some research and did not see any recall on this problem. I need help fingering it out before I hurt myself or others in the middle of the road driving unable to steer or break.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel spontaneously failed to turn and seized. In addition, the tire pressure monitoring indicator illuminated and the remaining instrument cluster warning indicators were inoperable. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 152,000.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/27/2019

This is the second time this has happened(~6 months apart). When I'm going around 50-60 mph and need to hit the brakes to slow the car quickly (not slam the brakes), they lock up. I hit the brakes and turned to the left the first time and turned to the right the second. Both times the front brakes locked up, I went fishtailing across 3 lanes and ending up facing oncoming traffic both times. I've been lucky both times and not been hit by anyone else but I'm sure my luck will run out one day. Additional note: the car turned off the first time. And the 2nd time, the driver's side rear tire was shredded. --2007 Cobalt- 125k miles. Brake job done 2016. This entry is 2/27/19.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/26/2019

The battery of this vehicle, and even new ones from the same manufacturer, have the battery installed in the trunk from the factory. There's a brittle plastic tube that vents the toxic fumes generated by an operating battery to the outside of the car. If this tube is damaged/broken, it allows fumes to enter the trunk, and seep into the cabin. The fumes corrode your lungs, which in some cases, such as mine, leads to hypoxia, meaning that the operator of the vehicle is dizzy & confused. This issue not only affects the owners/occupants of the vehicles with this design, but could potentially endanger unsuspecting pedestrians/motorists due to the operator of a vehicle becoming incapacitated, or they may simply black out at the wheel due to a lack of oxygen to the brain. The fumes are allowed to build up in the cabin of the car if the windows are left up and the air conditioner is on recirculate. The fumes are odorless meaning that you can go about operating the vehicle for an extended period of time without noticing that there's a problem, not that it would matter since the fumes corrode the nerve in your nose that allow you to have a sense of smell. The symptoms are flu like, which may lead a victim to ignore their symptoms. In my particular instance, the fumes that were entering the cabin of my car was sulfuric acid. This design flaw could easily lead to death, if not from the highly toxic, carcinogenic fumes that are entering the cabin of the vehicle, then the confusion/dizziness that the fumes lead to, which not only endangers the operator of the vehicle, but unsuspecting pedestrians/motorists who may be in the path of a vehicle with an operator who has blacked out, or is simply confused/dizzy due to a lack of oxygen to the brain. The part number of the tube for my specific car is 15247277. Trunk batteries should be outlawed unless aftermarket.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

The gauges on the dash go haywire. A subtle 'ding ding' sound is made. The engine has difficulty accelerating and will only do so in spurts. A power steering warning is displayed on the dash and the steering wheel becomes very tight and impossible to turn. Car will give you about a minute, tops, to do something before shutting down completely. Issue happens randomly but seems to be triggered by the car deccelerating into first gear, at a stoplight for example. However, this past incident happened while on the interstate and nearly caused a collision with a semi. My particular VIN is not included in the loss of power steering recall involving Chevrolet Cobalts, general motors recall number:10023 and NHTSA recall number: 10v073000. However, based on performance the past 6 months, I sincerely believe it should be.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

My door lock keep lockimg and unlocking randomly on its own. . Dose it worse driving down the road.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

60 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

Takata recall the car will randomly lose power steering. The power steering message will display on the dash and the steering wheel will lock up. You will then hear a clicking sound as if the transmission is going bad. The car will jerk forward really hard and as you bring the car to a stop, the car will shake and you will hear all kinds of rattling. The gauges on the dash will all jump up & down! and you have no idea of the speed you're going. The check engine light will come on as well as the car with the lock light. Sometimes the steering wheel will unlock itself but you will also have all of the other symptoms. As I stated earlier it happens randomly so I have to constantly pull over to avoid an accident! if you attempt to keep driving it there's a chance the car will completely shut off and you will lose control of the gas pedal and brake pedal. I contacted general motors and they stated the car had already been fixed and I got it after the warranty so it's all in my hands. Why does the customer have to literally pay for the mistakes of the company I've literally read thousands of reviews of people having these same issues. It's an extremely dangerous car!! and we need to be compensated. This happens when the car is stationary, in motion, on the street, and on the highway.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

"takata recall" I am buying this vehicle from a buy here pay here lot. During my experiernce driving this car. I've had trouble steering the wheel. I brought in in to tire discounters for inspection testing. The result the auto tech explained to me in writing that I have electrical issues with the car. Also the tires was placed on backwards and the car needs new tires. The check engine light is on in the car. In motion on the street when experiencing this problem. The sensors are bad. This vechicle is programmed and needs a remote. I have to go to the dealer resolve it. Time auto sales in latonia kentucky previous owner of this car.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

I was driving home from work and my car all of a sudden cut off, I couldn't accelerate the strearing wheel got stiff and it just so happen I was able to pull over and not crash my car or even hurt myself. .

63 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/02/2018

It starting having flashing dashboard lights once as I was driving it just a few blocks from my home the first time it happened all gauges go everywhere up down or stop it looks like a christmas tree! and before the gear shift had some clicking at times. The clicking started then the gauges started going all over and the speed was all over then dropped to 0 not to move again. It's been happening on and off for about 8 years but as time goes on it's getting really bad I've kept looking for recalls as did my mother as she had the car before my owning it. It now does this anytime and the steering stops working with no notice or if it's not working and trying to pull over as it did on an on-ramp it kicked on and made the car jump into side lane about half way into that lane. Had it been a two lane road and a car coming towards me it would have been a dead head head on collision as it takes time and a lot of power to move the car when the steering is like a 1950 tractor in a wet field! I have back issues and don't have the upper arm strength that it really needs. There in no real warning when it's going to happen. But sometimes I hear a click and it happens a few seconds later. Also the interior lights every one through inside of the car stopped working about 3 months when my parents bought the car used back in June 08 they have never worked since. It had like 23,000 miles on it roughly. They was in middle 60s back then. It's now a family car and it's scary to have to drive it but I've got money in it I can't afford a replacement now. I have video of what it does. I just have videos no pictures.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

I have a fuel leak on the drivers side middle of the vehicle, in front of the rear tire. This leak is from the fuel lines around the heat shield. It appears the fuel lines are corroded. I tried to get a price quote on parts from the dealership, but they required me to take in in for diagnostics, because they said it was a common problem and should be covered under a recall. After $100 they told me it wasn't covered and finally quoted me on the repair, over $1,000. Not only do I feel the parts were faulty, I feel like I was scammed out of an additional $100 to confirm what I already knew. The vehicle leaks when stationary, if you turn the key off the fuel lines will drain onto the ground until the lines empty. Starting the vehicle takes about 5 seconds for the pump to get new fuel to the engine. When the engine is on the fuel will continually drizzle out. The leak was not noticed until a mechanic pointed it out in September of 2018, but has now grown to a big issue. Given the proximity of the leak to the exhaust I am concerned this could be a major issue for someone driving in the south, in the summer.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Connector feeding power to the a/c-heater blower melted; caused a crackling sound, a smell, and the fan to stop working. The connector melted together. To get a picture of the pin that failed required me to break the connector. Power was present on the brown wire as soon as the ignition is on - the blower did not need to be operating to generate heat at the connector. The wire leading to the connector was discolored from the heat.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/26/2018

Key ignition jammed. Steering column clunking, know TSB issue.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Takata recall the problems I'm having with my car is that the locks keep unlocking and locking and won't let my car startup. It locks me out and when I put the key in the switch it won't crank and the only way that I'm able to get the key out of the switch is if I jump it off. I was at home when it happened parked.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/13/2018

When im driving to work and car is in motion all lights dim, all 4 lock flicker off and on while im driving and car is in motion on highway. Sometimes the lock open other times they don't work with the car remote. The headlights will come on by them self even after I shut the car off. The car will unlock even after I lock it either wilth remote or manually. Chevy dealership had a recall on this car and I did take it for updates. I realize this is a 2010, but this has happened to my car since 2011. Once they fixed the problem it was ok, but here we go again. I tell me husband im afraid to get into christine. I would like the dealership to fix this at their expense. I don't think I will buy another chevy when I see how many electrical problems are written online.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/04/2018

My car dies unexpectedly when coming to a full stop at traffic lights and stop signs.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/28/2018

Battery keeps dying and key is stuck in ignition. Have to keep replacing battery every 8 months which are brand new 5 year battery. Fuel line was replaced but still strong odor of gas and rotting fuel line again. Safety hazard! this has been reported by a large number of people. Why is there not a recall on this?? vehicle was stationary at the time. This happens all the time so I can only put one date in here. Something is also wrong with my electrical system and the check engine light comes on all the time after diagnosing with my mechanic and having it turned off. Why isn't gm doing anything to help us?.
