1 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/04/2020

Keep smelling fuel vapors on the rear left side of the vehicle. Checked the fuel filter and it seems to be working despite my gas mileage getting worse and worse. I've been burning a full tank of gas going less than 250 miles when I should get near 400 miles a tank.

2 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

In my 2009 chevy Cobalt, I recently noticed a very strong gas smell when getting out of my car after a short trip. Yesterday, after I backed the car out of the garage to install a new car seat for my one year old son, I noticed the smell again and noticed a large puddle of gas dripping at a pretty fast pace. After investigating, I noticed it coming from a section of rusted fuel line near rear driver side tire. After looking for recalls and service bulletins, I called a local chevy dealer and they said the leak was not covered by any recall or service bulletin and it would cost about $850 to $950 to replace the entire fuel lines from engine to gas tank. I noticed hundreds and hundreds of similar issues documented on various automotive web chat sites describing the exact same issue in the exact same place for Cobalt's from 2006 to 2010. There is what appears to be an insulator around the lines to protect them from the exhaust pipe heat that accumulates road salt and moisture over time and corrodes the fuel line at that specific location. Needless to say this issue presented a very serious condition that could have jeopardized the lives and safety of my children as well as my wife's and my lives. My car is now useless until I can save enough money to pay for the repair.

3 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

I was driving my car and I noticed a strong fuel odor coming from my car. I pulled into a parking lot. Left the car running and saw a huge puddle of fuel dripping down onto the ground from the top of the fuel tank. One of the lines right at the fitting into the fuel pump is cracked. They have this already recalled, but only in 15 states and mine isn't one of them. I want chevy to issue a 50 state recall for this issue. My car could of caught fire and I could of died. This is a very serious issue. A year ago I had to replace the fuel lines from the fuel filter to the fuel rail in the engine because the metal tubing rusted out and cracked. They need to be stainless steel not pot metal. Their is no recall on those fuel lines, but I read lots of complaints for the same issue. I don't have any photos only video of it dripping.

6 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I began to smell gas after exiting the vehicle. I traced the smell to an apparent leak coming from the top of the tank where the lines from the fuel filter are routed over the top of the tank. I discovered the recall for fuel pump plastic part failures in warm weather states, also 2009 Cobalt, but, georgia is not listed (I'll tell you it is a warm weather state). Also, in regards to another individual's complaint NHTSA id number: 10668977, I discovered my tpms were backwards about three years ago when I had an unexpected flat. The low pressure indicated by the tpms directed me to the wrong tire. One of the tpms stopped working within days of driving the car off the lot. Other issues: 1) multiple times I have placed a small item like a phone in the passenger seat and the passenger air bag turns off - seems hyper sensitive, not nearly the weight of an infant 2) my front speakers don't play unless the weather is warm (wiring harness/connectors?).

7 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/14/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and she was informed that the vehicle needed a new fuel cap. The fuel cap was replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic and the contact was then informed that there was a fuel leak from the o-ring in the fuel tank. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure recurred once again. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the contact was advised that there was still a massive fuel leak. The leak was repaired however, the contact continued to smell an overpowering odor of gasoline when driving the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle would jerk abnormally when driving at various speeds. The failure mileage was 68,881 and the current mileage was 70,000.

8 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

My complaint is in reference to a fuel leak from the top of the fuel tank. After going on line I noticed that there has been a problem with 2006 through the 2008 model year Cobalt. I feel this is a safety hazard as the exhaust pipe passes below the fuel tank. This problem should have been fixed with the 2007 recall as I have heard there is one. What is required to have a recall for safety on the 2008 model year. This is a costly repair and the burden should be on the manufacture to correct. Again this is a safety hazard and is playing with peoples lives and also allowing fumes to escape into the air.

9 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/23/2012

In March, 2009, my daughter purchased a 2007 chevy Cobalt from a Chevrolet dealer in gilbert, az. The car has been well maintained, and there have been few maintenance issues until recently. In April, 2012 she noticed that she was having a hard time starting the vehicle, and when it did start it smelled strongly of gasoline. We took it to our local mechanic who determined that the car needed a new fuel pump and filter. The car then started ok, but when the gas tank was full we continued to smell gasoline outside the vehicle. We took it back to the mechanic in June for an oil change, and told him about the gasoline smell (plus the check engine light had come on). The vehicle was then diagnosed with an evaporative gas leak, so the gas cap was replaced. Again we thought that the issue was corrected until two weeks later my daughter filled up her gas tank, and when she parked at work smelled gas strongly again, and this time noticed fluid dripping from underneath the car. The next day we took the car back to the mechanic, and this time he found a crack in the port assembly. He repaired it with an epoxy repair kit to the best of his ability, but told me to check with general motors to see if there had been a recall of any sort. I checked with the NHTSA at safercar. Gov and there it was. There most definitely was a recall that we were never notified of regarding this fuel leak issue. I sent a letter to general motors requesting a copy of the recall, asking why I wasn't originally notified in February of 2010, and requesting reimbursement for my expenses, totaling $976. 00. Customer service at general motors denied my request, and refused to accept responsibility. They said that my vehicle VIN was not listed. They would not tell me why. All I know is that if my vehicle had been repaired at the time the recall occurred, I would not have had this issue.

10 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

The interior of the vehicle had a strong fuel odor. The Chevrolet dealership diagnosed a leaking fuel module and had to replace the gas tank, fuel module, and fuel pipe. While this defect is known to occur on some 2007 Cobalts, gm states that my VIN number is not part of the current known defect. The leaking fuel module recall should be expanded to include all 2007 Cobalts.
