2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

The fuel tank has an evap leak that somehow breaks on top the tank so it leaks the gas vapors and could potentially start a fire but the part that breaks is a non serviceable part so it can’t be fixed without purchasing a whole new gas tank that isn’t cheap. My other concern is the infamous grounding issue with the wires on the ground g105 I believe right next to oil filter that grounds the transmission and engine control modules well it shorts at times when driving and suddenly your car dies while driving how scary it could cause a wreak and kill somebody it’s a very scary issue that constantly comes back even after trying to re ground it needs to be recalled and fixed it’s going to kill somebody and it’s a well known issue for this make and model that should have already gotten attention to be resolved.

Replaced unit at a cost of $730. 22 with the fuel pump module costing $382. 80. This defect could have resulted in a car fire and or worse. Definately a safety issue. I have searched online and found many other complaints about this same defect. Mike kowalsky.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/07/2024

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was an abnormal odor of fuel inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the failure was due to the fuel line. The manufacturer was contacted and offered help with a new vehicle. The contract stated that the failure was related to NHTSA action number pe20011 (fuel system, other, fuel/propulsion system, fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

Gas line corroded near driver rear wheel due to design of gas line bracket/shield. A bit of research finds that this is not an uncommon occurence and is solely based on the poor design of the shield. Gas leaks on driveway and smell of raw gasoline promoted the finding of this issue. It required complete replacement of gasl line and a total of over $1,000 in total cost.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

The fuel pump failed and had began leaking profusely. The car was brought to the chevy dealership where I was told it would be fixed under special coverage 12191. Chevy had tried an aftermarket part to fix but it would not seal properly and continued to leak. I got in contact with general motors who said a new part had been ordered, a week later they told me there was no new part as they discontinued it. They are now saying that it isn’t their responsibility to fix the car due to its mileage even though special coverage 12191 specifically states no expiration due to mileage. They are offering me a credit towards a down payment which I do not want as I am not interested in having a new car payment, I want my car repaired or to be compensated once they total it out. This is my daily driver car and I have been without it for four months while gm shoves me around and refuses to deliver on their failed product. Please help.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

2008 chevy Cobalt has become unsafe to drive as it is leaking fuel out the bottom of car.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/24/2023

You need to reopen the case. Due to the fact that gm or who made the Cobalt's, failed to tell you that they put heat coil tape around the gas lines right where it rusted and gas leaks. When there coil tape gets wet with salt water from the snow, its there heat coil wrap that traps and keeps the salt water in side the coil wrap thats traped to the gas line. I can prove it. I have the heat coil wrap from my car. Its there fault not the weather conditions. Period. Willing to take to court with evidence. - sandra h. , loveland, us.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/08/2023

Fuel lines have developed a leak near exhaust in rear of car. The line has rusted at the part that attaches line to the under body of the car.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

My Cobalt 2009 has gas leaking in front of the back driver's side wheel. This has been report it seems by several people online that I have found. Why can not gm cover this repair in a recall? I've tried to call around for pricing but most garage's won't give me a quote over the phone. The best I got was that this would cost around 2000-3000 for replacement. But it seemed like a shot in the dark on the pricing. I called the local dealership near me in darian connecticut, and was told that this was not covered under any recall. Corrosion protection coverage expired in 2019 from gms site. But why would a fuel line be made of a metal that rust and is near the hot exhaust requiring a heatshield on the pipes? aftermarket repairs seems to be either braided stainless steel around nylon, or some nickel/copper piping using compression fittings that plumbers use.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

The vehicle is leaking from the fuel tank.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/07/2023

Fuel lines corroded, very dangerous, had to replace at a high cost to me.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

My car had a fuel pump go, then within months, another. We then dealt with the same problem symptomatically, and was told it was the fuel pump sensor. Within the last few weeks, I am having all the same issues-including the car intermittently not starting, gasoline leaking from the vehicle, both noticably missing from the gauge (I. E 1/8 tank less than night prior), odor of gas in the car, stalling out while driving and trying to start it, but also now dripping gas from the car. A new issue popped up, which is the dash light coming up saying "check gas cap". This past Thursday, my car wouldn't start again, and has not started since. It's concerning that the chevy Cobalt has had recalls for the same exact problems, literally thousands of complaints that mirror mine- for every model year except the 2010. It's also interesting that they also stopped producing the Cobalt entirely in 2010 too, but considering the amount of faults and issues I've seen documented in every year model it's not a shock. I'm concerned that despite the amount of complaints that include 2010 models, they were excluded from the recall and seeing that my situation is another one that won't be covered, fixed, or made right by gm is something that doesn't make sense. I have also seen, that in 2021 an investigation was launched specifically into this exact issue with the 2010, as well. I'm carless right now, with no answers from chevy other than that it's not part of the recall, yet it's part of the problem. Something is very wrong here. It's shocking they wouldn't recall a vehicle knowing it's dripping gas, pooling gas, it's such a hazard for not only anyone driving them, but anyone driving near us or even parked near us. Please help do something! also I have videos of my car dripping, 2 days prior to it not starting, if there is somewhere I could send those as well.

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/08/2023

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/13/2023

2009 chevy Cobalt, driving to work Friday January 13 2023, noticed heavy smell of gasoline. Parked car and noticed a puddle just in front of the drivers side rear tire. Got it home and did an inspection of the area and discovered a fuel line leak when car is running and line is under pressure. It is a big leak seemingly caused by rust developing on the line because of a heat shield trapping water and debris. This leak is very close to the hot exhaust system. Fire is an obvious possibility. I'm afraid to even drive it to a shop. I plan on having it towed.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Fuel line rusted, leaking under car. Smell gas in cabin.

28 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/09/2022

Fuel lines starting pouring gas right at driver side rear wheel gas lines rusted with holes in them and my car only has 40 thousand miles on it and parked in a garage this could have been very bad since the gas lines are right next to the exhaust.

29 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/20/2022

Fuel lines are both leaking on the driver-side of the car, about halfway back along the length of the vehicle. I've sent it in for repairs, but I know I'm not the only one with this issue. The car has been driven gently and only has 52,000 miles on it.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

34 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

There seems to be a fuel leak on the driver's side rear tire line. Was told that it was very common for my vehicle to have this and that there is no fix for it.
