I purchased a 2007 chevy Cobalt and was told by an independent shop that their computer was reading codes for the ignition switch and the air bag lights are on. On top of it the power steering feels like it goes in and out. I know there’s recalls on the 2007 chevy Cobalts for the exact reasoning. Faulty ignition switch and the airbags not deploying because of it. Along with like 4 other recalls gm announced. I just purchased the car not even two weeks ago so I was told to come on here and file a complaint to see if I can get the recall letter so the dealership can fix the car.
While driving through an intersection car shut off. This loss of power while driving has happened several times over the last few months. I called chevy dealership today and was notified ignition switch was already repaired previously and that I may be charged a diagnostic fee if I bring the car in for repair.

I had recalls fixed in 2015. And then suddenly power steering turns on and off. Never before they touched it was there an issue. It happens here and there and stops. This year is happening every day and won't go away. My power steering turns off in middle of driving. Dash board lights go off and car starts cranking. Goes super slow . I'm scared ita going to explode. I can't drive on freeway . And now besides the lock on screen coming on my engine light stays on now . Not sure what to do with it. Car shops can't help. When I 1st had the issue I called the dealer because they fixed the recall and they said nothing could be done because they had already fixed the recall.

I've given this car regularly by the book maintenance and now I'm being told the transmission is bad and needs replacing. There are no repair mechanics that want to replace it either. They all state it is too complicated to get too. They tell me its cheaper to buy a new car. With the amount of car I've given this car, there should be no reason the transmission should go bad. Anything small with it should be easy to repair. It is as if the engineers set the consumer up to fail. I have a great car that is only an 08 with a nice body, starts instantly, and no one will touch the transmission! when I start off with this vehicle and I slowly start to take off from 0-20 it takes it a strange amount of time to get to 20mph than its fine. It also happens at stop signs and some lights. Occasionally, if I turn off the car and restart it its fine. I was forced to purchase a second vehicle and dealers would not even accept it as a trade in when I tried to get a new car. Like I said, body wise she is in great condition. What is going on with this transmission is outrageous.

While driving all the light on instrument panel will all light up then the transmission will shift hard. The car will not crank at times and when this happens its a guarantee the transmission will shift hard. The evap sensor is faulting because when I put fuel in the vehicle seems like it does not want to crank. The evap problem does not seem to be related to a possible computer malfunction. We have had the fuel pump replaced by a local licensed mechanic.

My 18-year-old daughter had a defective ignition switch in her vehicle causing her to lose control of her vehicle and crash into a ditch on today 11/29/2018 we check the recall list before we purchased her vehicle and it was listed as safe.
The vehicle anti theft light keeps coming on. When this occurs the vehicle jerks in drive, hard to stop, wheel will lose power steering in drive, and all needles will move. The rpm, mph, and gas needle continues to fluctuate. The gas needle will indicate low fuel when fuel is present. I can never know what speed I'm doing. The vehicle flashes power steering digitally. The car will shut off in mid drive! taken to many mechanics including dave gill Chevrolet and no one fully diagnosed the issue!.
Traction control warning light came on after starting vehicle. Shifted from p to r and the shift was hard. Shifted to d and a clunk occurred. Vehicle did not drive correctly. Shut off vehicle and started it again. Problem went away. This could be very dangerous if it happens while driving at speed.
Instrument cluster malfunctioning, speedometer and warning indicators flashing, going out, resuming normal operation, then repeating the failure symptoms repeatedly. During failure symptoms the transmission and engine bog down, stall and the power steering assist fails (with engine still running) . Random electrical issues such as the check engine light, car alarm sensor, etc flash on and off then start working again totally normally. Can not get the failure to occur at the dealership or mechanics. Fails several times a week. Fails when driving on street, highway at low speeds, medium speeds or high speeds.
Traction control light comes on . Difficult to control car due to rough year shifting, lose power steering . Car eventually loses power. Dangerous cannot get out of traffic without causing accident. Turn off car and restart all lights are off and seems ok but will randomly happen again-- two times in same week!!!! this is crazy, afraid to drive vehicle but have no choice cannot lose my job.
When driving at a constant rate, with constant accelerator pressure, between approximately 25 to 50 mph, the rpms jump/fluctuate causing the car to lurch and hesitate. This can be a safety hazard, particularly in icy conditions. The only way to avoid the hesitation is to actively accelerate or decelerate. There are numerous owners that have posted an identical issue on message boards and have stated that their vehicles had similar issues that were remedied by similar repair processes and that Chevrolet has altered the process used to make replacement parts as the initial parts were defective. In addition to being a safety hazard, it is also an excessive and costly burden on vehicle owners. My vehicle has only 40,000 miles on it and has been doing this since under 35,000 miles. It cannot be documented without a video. The rpms jumping is a constant and unrelenting issue when driving at a constant rate of speed between approximately 25-50 mph.
Since this car has been purchased it has had many probles sterring tires, suspensions, ac . . . . . So complicated but last year once an this year again the steering wheel has gotten locked completly while driving . . . . In may another incident happened while driving the gas/accelatertor stay down and couldnt stopp car . . . . Have taken it to get fixed many times already.

"takata recall" on 3/30/18 I was involved in a wreck. I was traveling on a busy city street when the light turned red. I stopped and the person in front of me was driving a large SUV. When the light turned green and traffic began to move I started driving. Out of nowhere with no warning, the driver just stopped and my car ran into the back of the vehicle. We both stayed in our vehicles I called 911. Officers arrived and emergency services. Even though hardly any damage was done to the SUV, my car sustained a lot of damage to the hood and bumper of my car. The airbags didn't deploy. I thought my car was totaled by looking at it. I was able to have most of my car repaired out of pocket because I had liability only at the time. The passenger in front of me after giving information to the responders was able to drive away, I was not. I've also had another accident where the airbags didn't deploy in 2014. I am concerned that I might be in another accident that could be life-threatening and the airbags won't work. I contacted gm about my concerns regarding the airbags and nothing was done to have my airbags checked. I was able to have the switch changed when there was a recall for that. I hope by sharing my experience with you something can be done to have my airbags checked and give me a sense of security when driving my vehicle.
My vehicle transmission was stuck in park, it would n't start and would still roll when in park. We have come to the conclusion it was a faulty transmission cable clip or installed improperly. I have contacted gm about a recall and said it was closed due to a dealers inspection in 2012. I have since taken it in to get fixed and it appears it is a problem with the recalled part. Gm still refuses to cover it. I am enclosing below my email to gm below with attachments and links. Any help with this is appreciated daniel <bdano27@yahoo. Com> to:customerassistance@Chevrolet. Com cc:daniel flamini Mar 16 at 10:54 am thank you for the information. I had taken the car in on March 14th to have the problem diagnosed and offer the invoice of what they found and fixed for your review. They said the clip was fully engaged but the cable was still slipping. I asked that they give me the old part back for my inspection. I also offer a video of my review of the cable, please see link below. The third attachment is the 1st page of the invoice my receipt of payment. Https://drive. Google. Com/file/d/1rrtbjhvtpipnh3lzthgbuiwj-aux190o/view?usp=drivesdk I am asking that gm reimburse me the cost of 210. 24 dollars for the transmission cable replacement. It is apparent from the inspection from the technician and my own inspection that the problem lies with the clip not operating properly. Don't know what may have happened in 2012 during their inspection, but regardless it appears to be a defect in the gm design/part and should be covered. I assure you I am not trying to get something for free here, I just want businesses to back their products, especially when there are known problems with them, which I hope you will do. I appreciate all your time in this manner and look forward to your reply. Sincerely, daniel flamini 414-803-0912.
No forward drive, high or low gear, but reverse was working. Driving at 45 mph forward gear just went out and I had to turn into a buisness. Would not move in forward, but would go in reverse. Had car towed to home.
Recall no. N100023 - I was driving up to a stop sign and all of a sudden I couldn't turn the wheel. I was almost at a stop. The power steering was gone. A little later it turned back on. Recall no. 09041 - when I shift there is a clicking sound that is made inside where the shifter is, and then all of my sudden my car jerks. This happens when I am in motion. It jerks to the point I am physically moved.
Was driving down the interstate at 75 mph when all power to vehicle was lost and was able to pull over to side of road. Vehicle would not start engine would crank but not start. Vehicle had to be towed to mechanic, mechanic checked for problems could not locate problem after 6 hours working on it vehicle needed to be towed to dealer. Dealer said timing chain failed and caused extensive damage to vehicle and engine needs to be replaced. This is a major safety concern and caused have caused an crash with the sudden loss of power.
The powerstearing message appeared on my dashboard last night while, thankfully I was parked and stationery before I turnedmy car on. I had no mobility with the steering wheel and appeared to be locked up. I turned off the engine and after starting the car a short bit later the car was operational. The car runs fine for now but I fear it will happen again. To add before this happened I just finished driving 500 miles when I parked the car.
My 2008 chevy Cobalt began secreting a very strong fuel odor; it didn't matter if it was parked, or driving, the odor has been prominent 24/7. I checked for leaks and found nothing. I recently moved, so I have yet to find a new, trustworthy mechanic, so I've been driving my husbands car due to the fact that I do not feel safe driving the chevy at this point. I had however, been regularly starting the engine once a week, while trying to locate a mechanic, however now. My chevy is completely dead; it wont turn on, nor will the lock system even function VIN number: 1g1al58f787297278.
Power steering alarm appears on dashboard. Power steering stops working and transmission begins very hard shifting, causing car to 'buck' each time it shifts. The problem has occured both when stationary and when in motion. It was intermittent, but now occurs daily.
Ecm problem. Lost steering and all dashboard information. Vechile does not start. Dealer tells me it is a bad ecm and it is $841. 00 to repair it. Including a $250. 00 chargere to diagnose the problem than I find out there was a huge recall on these ecms but for some reason mine was not included. Gm should make good on this and replavce it at no charge since they know they have had huge issuyes with this.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 45 mph, the "power steering fluid" warning message appeared. In addition, the vehicle decelerated and stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted after the first attempt. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. The VIN was unknown.
Vehicle wouldn't start. Like the battery was dead, wouldn't even try to turn over. Go to turn the key off and pop my trunk where the battery is located and I can not get my key to turn all the way back to the off position, as a result I cannot remove my key. The speedometer read 30mph even though the vehicle never started and wasn't moving. Non of the electronics were working so I was unable to pop my trunk. This has happened several times before and eventually the vehicle will start and when it does the battery light stays on and the dash reads; engine performance low. The transmission will surge as I am driving and I cannot go faster than 30mph. I have even had the car shut off completly while I was driving down the road. After anywhere between a few hours to a few weeks the vehicle will stop acting up and drive normal for a while. Agian the normal lasts anywhere between a few hours to a few months as well. The power stering also flashes on the dash and sometimes cuts compleatly out.
The power steering light came on when I was driving my vehicle on the highway. The speedometer stoped working, my car wouldn't shift past first gear. My door locks started locking and unlocking uncontrollably by themselves. My steering wheel was harder to turn. I immediately got off the highway and chose a safer route to return home. I have a 1 year old daughter who is always with my wherever I go. I've researched and found the same issues with the same make year and model car.
