37 Power Train problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/25/2016

About once a month "power steering" appears on display, sometime power assist is gone, most times it is still there but transmission shifts very hard and stalls engine when stopped for red light. If power steering comes on right away after starting vehicle, shut off, smack pass side of center console, then start, usually off then, but if vehicle is hot from sitting in sun, or very cold in winter, you have to drive it and either heat it up or cool it off before pulling over parking and shut off for 15 minutes, then hit it then start it. Told dealer of this before p/s recall work was done they said it was not related, when I went to pick it up they ask if we were having trouble with the power steering and transmission, I said yes, they said OH have a nice day.

Also effects the transmission(automatic) cause it will shift hard and jerk the car. The ac also shuts off during this issue, it will blow air but it won't be cold. Seems like the issue always comes back when it's extremely hot outside. This is an on going issue for about 5 years and it comes and goes. Every mechanic I went to their car reader can't read my car. It hesitates and tries to shut off at every stop. Loosing power and speed even down hill. The power steering reading has been coming on. And the display for gas mileage will now go to all lines no numbers. I am starting to be afraid to drive my car. That its going to get me rear ended when I am turning and it shuts off. I fear for my safety and the safety of my children. I went so far as to this morning recording the dash as it was acting up so I can show my husband.

60 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

I've had several recalls on my car. Air bags, power steering, ignition switch. I was only able to get 2 of these fixed because the others were not "valid" recalls for my vehicle. One of the issues the ignition switch recall has is that the car turns off. The car. Turns. Off. I don't know why and I don't know how. I just know, the car turns off. This has been a daily battle for me. It started a few months before the recall was released and continues to this day. I was driving across an intersection, the light just turned green, a few cars in front of me. I press the gas slightly & my car turns off. I wasn't even going 10 mph. I wasn't even going more than 5! another incident a few days prior, I was coming to another intersection and another car in the opposite direction was making a left so he was in the middle of the intersection. Thankfully I was not going so fast that I could've stopped and he could've passed. Just as I was approaching the lines to cross into the intersection, my car turned off again. My car is constantly turning off in the middle of rush hour traffic. Thankfully it's traffic so it's going slow but it has happened that my car will just turn off in the middle of me actually driving! there have been many times that I am trying to make a turn and my car turns off. Mid turn! in the middle of the street. Do you know how dangerous that is? it just reminds me of those movies where those silly people get stuck on train tracks. Why would you park or stay on a train track? OH, I know, just own a Chevrolet! it'll constantly turn off. Thankfully, I have not gotten stuck on a train track but what I have encountered is just as dangerous. I am constantly driving around with other people and children. My car constantly turning off, especially in the middle of the street is a great hazard to myself and my passengers. I fear my life driving this car. :(.

65 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Electrical/electronics problem. Symptoms: dash warning lights (engine, traction, theft) came on. Digital display warning: low fuel (over 1/2 tank of gas) power steering (which stopped operating) and transmission service (transmission stopped shifting smoothly). Gauges (speed, fuel and tach) operated erratically, not at all or combination of the two conditions. This condition started with a few of the listed symptoms which initially cleared them selves. Later as more showed at same time, I was able to clear them or sometime they cleared themselves . This happened over a years time. When all symptoms showed and would not clear, I took the vehicle to trusted mechanic. He could not locate problem but due to outstanding ignition switch recall, suggest that repair may fix the problem. Vehicle was taken to dealership and recall service preformed and no other outstanding recalls were found. Vehicle operated without a problem for almost a month before the listed symptoms reappeared. Was able to clear the fault codes but symptoms returned within the day and won't clear. A check of recalls found that a recall for power steering loss as described was issued and done at approx. 49,000 miles. Several electrical system checks were found in maintenance history (done after power steering recall) and preformed before I purchased the vehicle. The issue describe has become worse over time and has effected the safety of not only those operating the vehicle but any one else on the road when this problem manifest itself. Given that the ignition was replaced and the problems persist, I can't believe it was the ignition causing these problems. I will contact gm to see what my options are. Given that gm is paying 900 million to the government in fines, maybe uncle sam could held those of us with gm engineered lemons replace them with something that is safe to drive on the road.

70 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

I am extremely upset with my 2007 chevy Cobalt, I do not want to complain, however, something must be done. For as long as I have had the car I have had a number of problems. However, the dealership failed to acknowledge the warranty. I needed to replace multiple keys and door handles. Recently. The car has failed and is sitting. I find this ironic since my warranty recently ran out. The timing chain jumped and bent the valves. This is a very serious repair and is very costly. I have had everything check regularly. There was no warning and I nearly wrecked my car, as I was driving when it happened. I recently received another recall for the ignition switch. The car was recalled before for a similar issue. Prior to the engine issues recently, I had noticed an ignition and steering problem. However, now I cant even move the car to get the recall issue resolved. This vehicle was my first car, the car is nearly new and was when I bought it. This should not have happened. Especially so close to the warranty expiration and with no warning. There was no way to prevent this from happening. I was not aware that Cobalts had zero tolerance. This should not be the case. I would not have bought the car if I knew of these potential problems. I have faith that gm will help to resolve these issues. Thanks so much.
