While driving power steering message showed on dash, lost transmission control, and speedometer stopped working.
My husband was driving and the car suddenly stopped taking gas and said reduced engine power. He got it back home as it was only a few miles but top speed was less than 10 mph. It never did run right anymore and then completely stopped a few days later. Also the key gets stuck in the car if the battery goes dead. I had to leave the key in with the window down because I was scared of getting locked out. When my husband was able to come and charge the battery some it released the key. It never had any issues like these until they suddenly started. These issues showed up in summer 2021. Codes mentioned general electrical failure, throttle control issues with pedal and tac module. High and low voltage to tac module.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the contact struck a deer. The air bags did not deploy. Additionally, while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact restarted the vehicle. There was an abnormal sulfur and fuel odor detected. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the map sensor needed to be reset. The mechanic reset the air bag light. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the air bag failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle started to jerk. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Jeff drennen Cadillac Chevrolet Buick GMC (3625 maple Ave, zanesville, OH 43701, (740) 452-3611) was contact and informed of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
Car was stationary then got in and car wouldn't start and key wouldn't go to off position once key was inserted. After jump start all information miles etc was cleared. When driving seems like it won't go into next gear. Speedometer stopped working and going slow even 20 mph ramps up to 4-4. 5 rpm. Power steering warning and , airbag warning stays on in addition to engine light. Tire pressure information started working on 3 of 4 when stopped working a year ago.
Tcm module, power steering and odometer not working properly.
When accelerating hard to get on the highway from exit or going up a hill the accelerator gets suck. The car will not slow down with our foot on the brake as hard as possible. We just pray we can get over to break down lane without hitting anyone. The only way to stop car is to put in neutral, keeping your foot on brake and pulling the emergency brake. Once the care is in park you must shut off car and restart. It you put the car in drive without shutting car off it willl start running by itself again going 65mp in the break down lane. The first time this happened it was in 2009 with only 700 miles on the car. The second time was in 2014 and again September 2018. Took car back to dealership and could not duplicate the problem, therefore it didn't happened. Told me it was a freak occurrence. Probably wouldn't happen again. The car is a 2009 model with only 23,000 miles on it because, I'm afraid to drive it. My husband drove my car the last time this happened about 2 weeks ago. He was on the mass pike and almost had a heart attack before I could get the car into neutral. We called gm headquarters because we got no where with our dealership in the past. Would not take care of problem unless we paid for the all tests first which we did twice before. All three incidents happened on the highway with heavy traffic and a higher power was watching over us. We could have been killed along with other people. Traveling 65mp in the break down lane is no joke. The car has also had 2 recalls on it that were fixed.
My car dies unexpectedly when coming to a full stop at traffic lights and stop signs.

When driving at a constant rate, with constant accelerator pressure, between approximately 25 to 50 mph, the rpms jump/fluctuate causing the car to lurch and hesitate. This can be a safety hazard, particularly in icy conditions. The only way to avoid the hesitation is to actively accelerate or decelerate. There are numerous owners that have posted an identical issue on message boards and have stated that their vehicles had similar issues that were remedied by similar repair processes and that Chevrolet has altered the process used to make replacement parts as the initial parts were defective. In addition to being a safety hazard, it is also an excessive and costly burden on vehicle owners. My vehicle has only 40,000 miles on it and has been doing this since under 35,000 miles. It cannot be documented without a video. The rpms jumping is a constant and unrelenting issue when driving at a constant rate of speed between approximately 25-50 mph.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while driving at unknown speeds the gears shift failed and locked up. There are no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 110386. Ap.
Dash message says powersteering and speedomoter stopped working.
Takata recall while I am driving my power steering light comes on and my car will lose power steering. My gear shift starts making a clicking noise, when I press on gas when it goes to change gears it jumps into the next gear, when I try to stop it won't let me the engine feels like it is trying to go faster when I'm trying to stop. I have had fhe car for about 2 years and it's a ongoing problem.
The vehicle can mess up from either driving down the highway or trying to accelerate the vehicle on city street or highway that the engine stalls and says "engine power reduced" the check engine light along with the t/c light comes on. It happens multiple times in just 30 minutes of driving, more for longer trips. It will even do it in 10 minutes of driving. You have to pull over and turn vehicle off for a few minutes and then it drives fine for maybe a mile down the road before it does it again, or, you can continue driving it with the pedal all the way to the floor board trying to get speed which if you do the car shifts gear very badly and rides rough but when you're trying to get to work on time you do what you have too. I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic 3 times over this. Throttle body was changed (twice), they replaced the computer and cleaned the wires. One mechanic was the Chevrolet dealership and they told me they needed it there when it happened to better diagnose the situation. I do not have the ability to let them just keep my vehicle. I have had this vehicle for a little over a year. I bought it used. I have a loan on the vehicle and I am scared to drive this any further than I have to because I know the vehicle will mess up. I have two children that I have to put in this vehicle to take places. This vehicle is extremely unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want help with this situation!! this first happened in November of 2016. I do not know the day specifically. I do remember it did not fall under the dealerships warranty that I got it from.
Failure to communicate with tcm/ecm/pcm. This problem has caused several occurances where driving the vehicle has been hazardous. Because of either the wiring or the tcm itself, I, the consumer, have nearly been in 2 accidents. At first I was told that it was the power steering assist module. Replaced that and problem still occurred. When the problem occurs, the gauges jump up and down and completely stop working (speedometer and tachometer), transmission shifts extremely hard when accelerating, power steering illuminates in the data information box which in turn causes loss of power steering (replaced power steering assist motor, issue still happens, 1 occurance of loosing power steering and being able to stop before going off the side a mountain when trying to maneuver a right hand turn), check engine light illuminates, when shifting from park to reverse, reverse to neutral, neutral to drive, the transmission engages very hard and results in an audible "clunk". 1 occurance of vehicle switching gears into neutral from drive, while driving (shift lever still in drive position),passlock light also illuminates in dash. Vehicle consistenly acts as it is going to stall (headlights and dash lights dim). Checked alternator and battery, both in optimal working condition. Presenting diagnostic code include p0700 and u0100. Vehicle maintanence has been performed at 3,000 mile intervals but has been pulled off the road due to the 2 occurances of near accidents. Vehicle has been experiencing issues for several months prior to removing it from opperation. I know for a fact, this Cobalt is not the only one having this issue.
My ignition ion switch is very loose some times can't start car. My locks unlock and lock by them self. . This happens while driving and while sitting still.
I bought a used 2009 chevy Cobalt 2 years ago in 2017 with 119k miles. It has been nothing but a headache with things going wrong! the biggest issue is the code p2135 that sends the car into reduced engine power and the engine shakes violently. This is very scary especiallywith 3 young boys in the car with me. I have replaced the entire throttle body, ecm, accelerator pedal assembly with new sensor, crankshaft positioning sensor, camshaft sensors, spark plugs and spark plug wires. After all these things I am out of ideas onwhy this keeps happening in but all those new parts have not fixed the problem that keeps occurring. Please tell me there is a recall or you can at least tell me what the problem is. I have read many forums about people with this same issue.
Car alarms power steering display comes on, car shakes, won't shift gears, was looked at , comp said lost connection to tmc trans modular control. While in motion.
Power steering shuts off at intermittent times. The rpms go up and down and car sputters when this happens. This happens when driving and when the vehicle is standing still. It also almost dies at stop lights and stop signs. This happens on the highway and on city streets.
Vehicle losing power, speedometer flat, tachometer working, while in motion and stationary; displaying: power steering = car has steering wheel play; car does not drive over 30 mph and revving high. The car regains power and loses power and regains intermittently. Chevy Cobalt 2005.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 75 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own. When the brakes were applied, the vehicle did no slow down. The vehicle had to be placed in neutral to slow the vehicle to a safe speed. The vehicle was taken to an independent dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 145,000.

My problems are came about with the electronic power steering on this vehicle as I have searched and found the problem too be very common. Found that it has been widely recalled including my model year with numerous complaints too the NHTSA. The first time it happened I was getting ready too go to a doctors appointment, the power steering message came on the dashboard, everything seemed too be working except the speedometer and it drove fine. On the way back home however the car would no shift past first gear. I took it too a mechanic that lives next too me. He said the wiring harness was bad, replaced it, got it back. Drove fine with no problems for three weeks, even the driver front blinker was working which had never worked since I got the car back in March of this year. Then after the three weeks the power steering message came back on and all the same symptoms are back, no speedometer, hard shifting if any, it even caused the engine light too come on this time which an auto parts store determined too be a random misfire. I changed the spark plugs and it went off. My theory is that the tcm is not grounded correctly too handle this and shorts out as I have found that others have grounded the tcm and it has fixed all the problems too their claim. I searched recalls on my car using the VIN and my car is not listed on it and since this has been recurring and I've had all the problems everyone else has noted I feel that is a great concern. The message and all the effects happen as soon as I start the car if it's going too happen (so far). It first happened on the date indicated and then again on 11/15/2016.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated and the rpms revved intermittently. In addition, the vehicle failed to properly shift gears several times. The dealer was notified of the failure but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving in town shortly after turning onto a 45 mph road my vehicle, automatic, started hesitating while shifting into the next gear. It would shift but not like normal. Brought it into a repair shop to have a diagnostic ran to be informed it is a failure to communicate with tcm. Code u0101 and also u2100. After doing research there has been multiple complaints about this. So first things first replaced the tcm with a new one at the dealership. After replacement the vehicle is still not shifting correctly.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle moved very slowly. In addition, while the vehicle was in reverse, it accelerated forward independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000. The VIN was not provided.
While driving at low speeds (30mph) the power steering light came on. The car stalled, the wheel tightened up, the symbol with a locked car turned on. The speedometer started moving up and down crazyly. Check engine light came on as well. I moved to the side because it was really difficult to control and as I did the car just kept stalling worse and worse. Once I pulled over I turned off the car. I wasnt as freaked out as the first time this occurred since this has happened numerous of times and I've taken it to 3 different mechanics who don't know how to fix it at all. It's very scary it also happened while going at 60mph and all I do is pull over and then call the tow or drive it at low speeds home. I'm sure I fall in the category for a recall but have never gotten a recall letter. Its extremely dangerous and scary to drive with fear of this happening at anytime specially when you carry passengers. Alot of other people have the same problem as me and it's annoying hopefully gm fixes this problem for us all.
I was driving the car on the highway, going about 38 mph and the power steering warning beeped and displayed on my dash. The steering tightened up a bit, and the car slowed down, as I was driving (I don't know what the car slowed down to because the speedometer then dropped to zero, but the tachometer continued to rev (I want to say) between 2 & 3 rpm, while the car was still in motion. The locks were clicking up and down too while this was all happening. Then the car bucked and the speedometer began working. The power steering warning light remained lit during the whole time. I was able to pull into a parking lot for safety. This was clearly a driving safety issue due to the vehicle slowing down when the power steering warning light came on. There were other affected parts, but I was not able to select the boxes: electrical; other (speedometer) this also happened today: 07/10/16, prompting another complaint to be filed.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 40 mph, the power steering seized and the engine light illuminated without warning. Directly after, the vehicle jerked and accelerated without warning and the speedometer malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 182,000.
This issue seems to be a common problem with the 2005 Cobalt. Please research any car complaint websites about this certain vehicle. Even though all the recalls have been taken care of, while in motion, at any time and any speed, the dash lights starts flashing and you get the message power steering on message center, tc light comes on, light that shows padlock symbol comes on, rpm needle jumps up and down, steering wheel locks up, motor surges and shakes, and you hear all types of clicking sounds below gear shifter. This is a very dangerous thing and Chevrolet/gm just cannot seem to fix this issue or even find anything wrong. The 2005 Cobalt needs to be recalled and any other year of Cobalt having this issue. I will give you below the last date this has happened, but this has went on since we got the car in 2008. My daughter is in school in kansas city, and this issue has happened quite frequently lately. The only remedy is to pull to side of road, shut off vehicle and restart and hope it does not act up again. I just wonder how may deaths have happened already because of this faulty gm product and no one knew it was because of what the Cobalt did, locked up on its driver.
The power steering on my vehicle cuts off and the speedometer remains rested at 0 when driving. The doors also lock and unlock on their own while driving. The car does not automatically shift while driving making it hard to accelerate and the vehicle will also decelerate on its own while driving it is very dangerous and very scary to drive with these problems. The dealership claims that the problem with steering has already been fixed but I am still having these problems.
After recall on ignition switch my car still stalls and the power locks go up and while driving and it sometimes will not come out of park.
