37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

I was driving the car in the city street when the engine light came on. I continue to drive the car when I start hearing click sound than I hear bell sound come from the car. The car wouldn't go any faster than 40 mile hr & the gauges were jumping all over the place. I continue to drive the car then the words "power steering" came on where my mileage would show. All of the recalls have been repaired and something still wrong with this car. I asked gm to take look at the car without charging(money) to see if it is relative to the recall. The dealership said they couldn't tell if they would charged me money or not.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

Was driving at highway speeds going up a incline (hill) when my car chimed and a message read (engine power reduced) was in the outside passing lane with a semi behind me passing a slower moving car. Car power reduced to 30mph and lunged like not getting enough fuel. I barely missed a narrow escape of getting rear ended. Got over in the slow lane the highway become narrow with no shoulder to pull over so I was going to drive till I could pull over but them another chime and my dash read (engine disabled) and motor shut off. Coast to someone's driveway and set there shaking from being scared for about 15 minutes. Decided to try ignition and the car restarted and was able to limp to a pull off and call for a tow home. I realize my car is out of warranty and has 119k miles on it but nobody should be faced with a situation like I was put in. Also I contacted my local dealer months ago about my ignition recall and was told they would order the parts then call me to bring my car in and like I said that was almost 3 months ago and I have heard nothing no phone call.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

While driving the car, the service traction control light, the service engine light and the eng pwr reduced notification came on. When this happened, there was a thump sound, the car hesitated and lost acceleration for a couple seconds and the car had obvious performance issues after that. At the time that this occurred, I was merging into moving traffic and was almost hit by the car behind me, since the car hesitated for a moment, reducing my merging speed at a time that I needed to be accelerating. This could have been a very bad situation!.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Gm replaced ignition parts and shifter mechanism as per recall. Shortly after issues began with steering locking up, transmission not shifting and various warning lights flashing. This became more frequent and is now impossible to drive. My technician says it is a body or transmission control module costing well over a thousand dollars. There appear to be 100s of 1000s of the same issue as per search engines. I will contact my local gm dealership. If gm will not back up its product it will be the last gm in my driveway. I will trade in on a Toyota.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

I was driving in town and the power steering warning flashed across the dashboard reader. I assumed I would need to go get some power steering fluid to fix the problem. The next day I was descending rapidly down a very steep curving hill when the power steering went out completely and I could not control the vehicle! I narrowly avoided a collision with another car and some trees! since then I have done some research an found innumerable complaints about this very issue across several model years of the Cobalt. It is well documented that this is a serious and chronic issue and gm has largely ignored the safety of those who keep them in business!! what a bad business model! we are a one car and one income family and now I simply cannot let my teenagers drive at all because I don't have $1000. 00 to fix my car right before the holidays! thanks gm!!.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

On Thursday October 9th, 2014 I was driving east on rt 70. It began to rain heavily at approximately 4:50pm and I attempted to use the breaks on my vehicle. The breaks were suddenly very stiff. I didn't think they were working. I was in the left lane when this occurred and immediately put on my emergency lights and tried to move to the middle lane, to the right lane so I could go to the shoulder. When I attempted to switch the lanes, the power steering wasn't working. I managed to move the steering wheel slightly so that I could switch lanes. There was oncoming traffic before an available shoulder so I tried to speed up. I was unable to increase my speed. I was able to slow down naturally but I wasn't able to completely stop until I got to the shoulder and pushed extremely hard on the breaks and held down on the break for several seconds. The radio was still working and the heater was blowing cold air. I was able to get the vehicle working again by turning the ignition to the off position and turning the ignition back on. I think my vehicle's engine turned off while I was driving. I have onstar on the vehicle and immediately pushed the button when I was unable to break properly with my vehicle. The lady I spoke with said that she was seeing some problem with my breaks but I took my vehicle to the local dealership the same day and they found no codes for my vehicle. The next day the dealership told me that they fixed the ignition recall on my vehicle and that might have fixed the issue. On two other occasions before the recall was announced, I had a similar issue and brought it into the dealership. They couldn't find anything wrong. This experience was terrifying and I'm just glad that I wasn't killed.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

The first time this particular problem began, because there have been OH so many others, I turned on the car and a power steering messaged appeared. There was no check engine light or anything else, just the "power steering" message. This happened intermittently for about 2 months. Then one evening while accelerating from a stop light, the car started to hop, the "power steering" message came on with a dinging alarm, the car slowed down to about 5 mph, and the power steering was gone, along with the breaks. It was extremely difficult to turn or stop the car. We were able to get it off the road, where we turned the engine off and on a few times. Each time with no success in fixing the issue. Finally after letting it rest for about 15 min, we were able to turn it on and it returned to normal. Since then, intermittently the "power steering" message comes on and dings, the car hops, and the power steering goes out. I took it to the dealer and they said the steering column needs to be replaced at a cost of $800. I can't understand this, since my steering column has rarely been move, maybe a total of 30 since I bought the car in 2006. I am the original owner and very few people, outside of myself, have driven this car, lending to minimal adjusting of the steering column.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Driving down the highway @ 55mph and the power steering cuts off, the power brakes cut off, the abs light comes on, the turn signals start going on and off at random, the gauges jump up and down nonstop. I just picked up my car and was told it referenced TSB#08-07-30-021 (NHTSA#10025402). The check engine light is still on because of this problem. The shop referenced the following error codes from the check engine light: p0575 u7300 u0121 u0140 thank goodness no one was behind me or around me at the time because I was unable to properly steer the vehicle, brake, or accelerate. This is a major problem that should be addressed by gm.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

I was in my driveway I was attempting to just back up and turn around I no sooner put the car in reverse and just touched the gas pedal when they car accelerated out of control with both feet on the brake the car still would not stop and crashed into a another family car was behind me and backed into it hard. The only thing that saved it from being more serious was the short distance that I traveled maybe 20ft god knows how bad it could of been if it had more distance to accelerate even more than it did. Not once did I ever have a problem like this before. Gm need to fix my car and my family members car well for there faulty parts they have been using on there cars I am thankful I was the only person in the car.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

On the first week of June 2014, my 2006 chevy Cobalt went in for the safety recall 13454 (replacement of ignition switch). (this was the second recall this car has had. ) on June 19th, 2014 with the new ignition switch installed by the local chevy dealership, while driving the car in town, at speeds of 20 and 30 mph the car lost power to steering, brakes which made difficult even to stop and maneuver safely off the road. The car lost most of the engine performance but stayed running. The car was then turned off and restarted, with dash light warnings of engine light, tc light and a car security emblem light on. The car ran with very limited power and strange clicking noise which was coming from the shifter. I have cell phone video of the shifter nob clicking along with cell picture of the dash warning lights that are on. Car had to be "man handled" to get it to a safe destination. The battery was disconnected a then reconnected, with the thought of resetting computer. When battery was reconnected the car was 100% back to normal. For how long, is anyone guess, this strange occurrence has happened more than once. The car is scheduled to go to the chevy dealership for further diagnostics. They informed that it will be a week or so because their all booked up. What a pain in the (you fill the blank). If I had enough $$ to replace the car, I would have this car crushed so that I would no longer be responsible for any accidents it may cause.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

I take the car to camino real Chevrolet to do the recall for ignition key on 6/9/2014, I get back my car on the same day and go home. I feel that there is some problem on control of speed. On 6/11/2014, I went out with the car for a few mile, the car began lost power and slow down. So I called aaa to tow my car back to the dealer for investigate, they ask me for a checking fee of $300 and told me that they have changed the part, it will be other problem. So I searched the internet there is more recall on that model on the fuel pump and other, but they refuse to replace for me. So I called gm, they said there is no recall on my car, I don't know why? information I searched from the internet said that the wrong computer program, connection, coded keys anti-theft function will affect the car from starting. They never check that and told me to paid for changing the fuel pump. What should I do? I have no car to use over one week.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

I was driving down the road when my locks started popping in and out, my car started stalling out and losing power, and the power steering was going on and off. I took it in to the chevy dealership and they said it was the ignition switch. I just received my car back after it was fixed and the same problems are occurring still. I was going 60 mph when my car completely lost power. I have taken my car in other times for this problem with still no resolution.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

I was driving down the road and the power steering message came across the dash. The wheel started locking up and I heard a clicking noise down near the shifter. Also the speedometer kept jumping back and forth as I was going down the road. I had to stop and pull over. I shut my car off and waited for a minute. I started the car and took off down the road. As I pulled away it started chugging a little like it was trying to jump speeds?. . The steering wheel was still tight and it continued until I reached my destination. When I would stop at a red light it took me awhile to make my turns. When I finally reached my destination I shut my car off and let it sit for awhile and it stopped doing it. Until the next time. That was in may of 2014 and it has happened a handful of times since then while my two young children were in the car. Im just now learning of a power steering recall on '05 chevy Cobalt models. I bought my car this year.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

I have received (both) recall work done on my 05 Cobalt, and yesterday I was driving on the highway at 55-60mph for the first time since I got my car back last Friday. I lost power steering and my car would no longer shift to increase its speed. It felt like I was in neutral gear as the rpms were in the 5000-6000 range yet I was still at a speed of apprx 55mph, as I attempted to pull over to the shoulder I recognized I did not have power steering, and the light on my dash quickly went off and then came back, along with a check engine light. After finding out what the engine codes were via autozone, I was told my transmission control module had failed, hence why my transmission would not engage into third gear. After driving the car around more that afternoon, it continued to happen at the high speed levels, and again the power steering failed. I brought it up to the chevy dealership that performed the work, yet the service department was closed at 7pm. The sale guy tried to convince me that this recall would not affect anything with the transmission, yet multiple mechanics have told me that if the new piece was not programmed properly with my ecm, then its possible that this is affecting my vehicle. I am going to try and bring my car back in tonight after work, or hopefully tomorrow. I have already call general motors and reported the same incident, because there is a rumor going online that the new ignition switch may have a "short" in it. But I do not want to confirm that.

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

I was driving east on us hwy 2 at 55 mph when my car suddenly dropped speed to 35 mph and the engine light came on and the dash read red eng pwr. It was a very scary experience, I was able to coast to a side road as I live in northern wisconsin and there is not a shoulder to pull on to due to the high snow banks. I parked the car and shut it off and it had no power no speed control. I let it sit for 1 hour and when I turned it back on the engine light was off along with the dash reading and the car was normal. This is awful! this car is awful!.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

As I was pulling into the garage I always look to see exactly where I should stop. As I stepped on the gas pedal to pull up a little bit more the car accelerated and would not stop when I stepped on the brake and went into my son's tool box and if it wasn't there would of gone through the dining room wall out the other side. As it was the tool box went into the wall. The air bags did not deploy and the windshield wipers kept on go as full speed, the tires were spinning and there were skid marks on the floor. The brakes went down to the floor. The garage was full of smoke from the tires that is how fast the car was going. I had trouble shutting off the car.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/07/2013

Multiple problems with my '05 Cobalt, but this was problem cannot be duplicated by dealer and when I called GMC, they cannot tell me anything about this problem. Driving on a highway approx. 50-55 mph and all of a sudden car dropped to approx 20 mph. Dash reading said 'reduced engine power' and my traction control light came on. Nothing would make the car go faster, luckily nobody was behind me. Car kept acting like it was going to die. Got the car to my in-laws, which was only 5 minutes away and we unhooked the battery. After letting the car sit for a few minutes and the battery together, the car seemed fine. Took it to the dealer and said they can't get a code because the battery was unplugged. I called GMC and they told me they can't do anything without the code. I have children who sit in the back of my car and I am not waiting for the problem to happen again, if I am on the interstate and cars are behind me, they are going to run into me, as there was no warning this was going to happen. Not happy that chevy seems to be avoiding a huge safety issue and pretending it doesn't exist. There needs to be a recall on this immediately.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

On 10/2013, I was driving on the 105 fwy going eastbound at approximately 60 miles per hour when all of a sudden the vehicle stalled and I no longer could excelarate. East bound traffic was heavy and chp officer had to park behind me with his lights to avoid me getting hit by other vehicles, since there was no safety lane to pull over for broken down cars. The vehicle was towed to one other place before being towed to penske Chevrolet, 18605 s studebaker rd. , cerritos, CA 90703 the following day. In short, I took my car back 3 different times from the first time it was towed there. They would fix one part and I would leave and shortly after the engine light would come back on and I would return. Then they stated it was something else and they would "fix it". The check engine light would come back on once again. The last and final time I took my car in they replaced yet another car part and in total I paid $500. 00 dollars in fees, not to mention time loss at work and gas they use to do "long test drives". To this day the check engine light is still on from the day I left penske Chevrolet. The manager there "michael" in short stated that the car is fixed and that I would just have to deal with the check engine light being on. He assured me the second to last visit that this would be fixed and it never was. The vehicle is still not working as it did prior 10/2013. It cuts and does not accelarates when you initially step on the gas. In addition, the door locks are electric and when I drive they pop up and down on there own. I also will leave my car locked and when I get back the car will be unlocked. This all began after I got my vehicle back from penske Chevrolet of cerritos.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

The vehicle shuts off while running. I've stopped at stop lights and when I try to continue driving the car will shut totally off while in drive. The door locks are constantly running up and down and will not stay locked. Many times I've come back to the car thinking it was locked to find it unlocked itself. The electrical problem has created a problem with brand new batteries. I've replaced it twice since purchasing the car in 2010.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

While driving along in my Cobalt, suddenly, without warning, the engine power dropped off and the vehicle basically came to a stop in busy traffic. This, (affecting power steering, speed, control and stability),but, . . Most importantantly !!, . . Severely threatened the safety of vehicle occupants. It was all I could do to get out of harms way. . (. . I was turning left, safely spacing oncoming traffic when this happened the 1st time. . ). !! very scarey when cars are blasting toward you and the car won't respond as it should. This has happened many more times since that first encounter and at any time, without prior warning, it will put you in very hazardous, unsafe, dangerous and potentially deadly situations. . !!!! nice enjinerung job gm . . . !!! (where's the common sense or forethought. . ??).

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Driving on 127 north toward lansing michigan at 75 miles per hour when the engine lost control causing the car to go no faster than 15 miles per hour on the highway. This is a safety risk to the driver as well as others. I have replaced the gas peddle sensor which did not correct the problem, next I will replace the throttle body. The codes can be reset to correct the problem temporary if you purchase a $300 dollar code reader. I have also had to replace the front bearings twice. On 2/16/2014 I hit a pot hole and knocked a bolt loose that holds the cars frame together so at this point the car is unsafe to drive. At least I'm hoping its loose and not broke. The car shakes terribly due to the frame bolt. This is a big safety concern.
