My check engine light has been coming off and on continuously for the past six months, however it was diagnosed and it wasn't a big problem. Recently, I have been able to unlock my truck using the keyless entry and when I am in the vehicle the doors will not lock with the lock/unlock button on the door. When driving, after accelerating over 20 mph, the doors use to lock themselves, but now they do not. Normally when I put my truck in park, all the doors will automatically unlock. This has not been happening. I am scared to keep anything in my truck and fear that this might cause more serious problems and expenses. I would like to know if this has been happening with other Colorado's? it seems like since I have gotten this vehicle it has been one problem after another and I am very disappointed in Chevrolet.
The first and ongoing problem grinding in front left, driver, side wheel area. Many attempts have been made to fix this problem, they started out changing the whole front end, along with alignments, after some adjusting the problem will seem to go away only to return with in 2 months second, tires worn from inside out alignment, new tires, I was told one reason was the truck was dirty. I do not feel this is a reason for tire wear. New tires same problem. Third, truck not engaging when shifted into gear. This is on going, we have taken it in many times, the modular for the 2-4h-4l drive was changed, still have problem, they claim can not fix if it does not happen with them,, I video taped it, they will not look at video. Problem is intermittently, and have been asked to do different things to the truck when it happens, the problem is happening more often now, the problem seems to be growing. And still no answer to this or other problems, the dealer should have took back the truck and replaced it, if they can not be fixed.
The brake light switch has failed multiple times. It was covered twice under a recall. Switches only last 1. 5-2 years. There is no warning or dash light when they go out. I have almost been rear ended twice. Happened again April 13, 2015. I drove it straight to the dealer when I found out in traffic. I knew it was the brake switch again and the dealer confirmed. The dealer called gm to see if they would cover the replacement. They refused. The dealer gave me a discount as they know it is an issue and charged me $87 to change. This is the second time I have had to pay. He gave me this number to call but that was no use as they refused last time. 800-222-1020. Most concerning to me is the lack of concern by gm to fix a know safety issue in the brake and light system. Someone probably has or will be seriously injured or killed. They need to come up with a comprehensive fix and at a minimum continue covering failures under warranty. Not fixing the design problem then making money charging people is not right. The dealer who did the work last time is five star chevy in dallas, TX. Craig greene was the representative who tried to help me with gm if you need to contact him. Dealer tried but gm did not take ownership for their product.
Chevy Colorado trucks risk of fire! this truck is on its 3rd a/c & heat fan speed control resister and corresponding connecting plug. The first two were covered under the factory warranty, this last one was not. Each resister and plug in connector has been on the verge of catching on fire. At times you can smell smoke in the truck. If the fan speed control is on 1,2,or 3. Off & 4/high work ok. Each plug has melted and is a charred black and the contacts are no longer supported by the plug. The intense heat has charred the resistors corresponding connection socket. I have photos of the resister and plug for your inspection. Upon request. And the old units for you. If you do a web search for chevy fan or blower speed control stops working you will find this is a common problem. This connection needs to be redesigned before it burns down someone’s house because they parked their car in the garage.
Electrical, heater blower only operates on high, 1 2 and 3 does not, new circuit board installed, failed again, hat to stick a paperclip in harness to get it to run correctly.
Front turn signal lights don't work fixed twice now saying the fuse box is the problem. Blower motor does not work after 3 blower motor resistors a new blower motors and connectors. Sometimes the radio does not work. The truck has stalled driving on the highway 3 times all loss of power.
Blower fan works intermittently. Ocassional smell of burnt wires. Finally stopped working on settings 1,2 and 3, will only work on setting 4. This seems to be a common problem on the chevy Colorados that gm will not acknowledge.
Their seems to be a short in the electrical system. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle the clock in the stereo would not keep time. No matter how often you set it you can leave the vehicle parked for an hour or so come back and the clock has the wrong time in hours. I have recently had to replace all the bulbs on the passenger side "front and rear". Now the driver side park-signal light will not work when the vehicle is in gear. After you put the vehicle in park the light will come on. Also the electric windows do not always work. The tires on the front end have excessive wear on the in side.
Odi 10150645, odi 10150645: 3rd recurring problem. Customer invoice: drivers window inoperative, screws backed out of window motor causing it to bind r & r window motor and reinstalled bolts. Noise gone after repairs. Upon engage driver's side turn signal, failure to operate visible turn indication. Daytime running light also inoperable, bulb not working. Customer invoice: driver side daytime run light inoperative. Lf turn signal bulb burnt out. Replaced bulb upon engaging brake system, brakes exhibit high frequency squeaking, more on left than right. Extreme tire wear is apparent on the insides of both front tires. Customer invoice: brakes noisy at stops all the time. Unable to verify customer concern at this time. Vehicle has a lot of mud underneath. Engaging 4wd high, vehicle became stuck in 4wd. Continued to drive vehicle in condition until service department opened for the week. Four wheel drive became operational intermittently. Customer invoice: axle/differential, vehicle stuck in four wheel drive once. Unable to verify customer concern at this time. No codes & working as designed. Engaging a/c & heating operation the ac diminishes blower power and begins blowing smoke-like coolant from dash vents. Dashboard condensates extensively. Condensation must be wiped dry to deter interior damage. After running a/c at maximum power for 20 minutes or longer, operational problems discontinue until vehicle is started 'cold'. Customer invoice: a/c cuts off and blows smoke out of vents all the time. While driving. Unable to verify customer concern. Checked pressures. All ok, working as designed.
Chevrolet colorad 2004. The cruise control picks up several miles going up a hill, going down hill it jumps. It will kick in real fast sometimes. The vehicle revved in park position approximately 75 mph. When it did it would slow down it started to miss very badly. It was like the whole truck was shaking. The dealer said it had something to do with the computer and with the crank. The cruise control was inoperative.
6 months after purchasing a brand new 2004 Chevrolet Colorado zq8 3. 5l extended cab I noticed while driving on the highway wind noise coming from the passenger door as if the door was not completely closed. 2 months later and it was so loud I had to turn my radio over half volume just to listen to my radio. I had the truck seen by the dealership which I bought it and they said that the cause was misaligned. The b4000 door assembly front right align 9635 w5 0. 30. They adjusted the door and for 2 months there was no wind noise. The problem keeps occurring needing alignment. I also have a problem with the screws coming loose on the driver side door causing a metal binding sound everytime I open and close the door. Each time I open and close the door the screws are loose enough to were I can hand tighten them. I also had a computer problem in this vehicle as well. A year after having my vehicle out of nowhere and no warning my truck would not start. It would crank over but would not start. I had it towed to the dealership and the invoice states: scan computer codes p2610 stored in pcm. Mandy codes stored in bcm. Ran bulletin search. Found pcm failure replace pcm. Reprograms and clear codes recheck ok. However since the new computer was placed in the truck the alarm light will come on and stay on every once in a while.
Vehicle was repaired at bacon Chevrolet in milledgeville, GA. I am still getting letters to the effect that it was not repaired. I personally saw new part on vehicle.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado LS. The contact was driving 5 mph when every warning light on the dashboard continuously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired several times but to no avail. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not further repaired yet the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 70,600.
Recurring incidence of failure of driver side window and lock/unlock buttons on both drivers side and passenger side door pad inoperable at indeterminate periods of time. Odi 10150643: recurring narrative complaint #1 dealer response; dealer customer copy invoice: left front window inop, window works everytime, never duplicated customer complaint. Door locks will not operate with remote locks working everytime. We tried. Never duplicated customer complaint. Cd player/radio power will shut itself completely off. Upon pushing power knob, and selecting cd aux button the cd player will not play, eject, or load 6-disc cd player. Dealer customer copy invoice: sometimes cd player will not take or eject cd. Cd player not taking or ejecting cd. Found calibration for radio. Recalibrate radio with tech 2. Cd working ok now. Upon engaging abs system on dangerous road conditions the driver must apply extreme pressure on brake pedal. Abs system engages with extreme vibration and noise, brake pedal will be engaged to the floor and pedal will push back with resistant and then fails to respond. Resulting in car taking longer to come to a complete stop and tires to lock up without shifting power to alternate tire. Dealer customer copy invoice: when you stop real hard feels like pedal goes to floor and vehicle doesn't want to stop. Test operation of brakes. Operating as designed at this time. Advise customer of abs operation no problem found with brakes. Driving on ideal road conditions and/or off road conditions, back of bed rattles and loud rattling noise is observed inside and outside of vehicle. Dealer customer copy invoice: bed of truck rattles. Test drove found trailer hitch rattling. Also front license bracket loose and making a lot of noise. Remove bracket and install bigger push in tabs. Adjust hood, it was a little loose and making noise. Lube hood latch also. Courtsey transportation-rental- total invoice. . . 0. 0.
Todays date is 04/20/2013 #1- wheel aligement front to back, where rear passenger side tire sticks out from body. #2- this is my forth set of tires because of aligement problems. #3- rear tail lights seem to be burned out, they are not it a poor socket problem, I lube with electrical grease. I can't believe that they are introducing the market with making more of the problems for the new line 2014 and beyond. This is the worst Chevrolet I ever owned the 2004 Colorado. I have owned 14 chevys, will chevys be in my future?.
