Failure Date: 04/17/2018

Hello, I just purchased a used vehicle and it has the same passcode problem that my 2000 express van has. This is a substantial problem and gm is not owning up to the problem and should have a fix for it. How long are you going to ignore that tis is a serious problem and in an emergency situation having to wait 10 min. Could be life threatening. All I want is the 05 Colorado to work, I'll be selling the van and passing the problem to someone else. Time to stand behind your vehicles, this will be my last gm vehicle if you won't fix it. After 30 years of loyalty you should have my back.

My cruise control stopped working and then my break lights. Put in new break bulbs and they still do not work! I was dri ing when cruise control went out and my husband noticed my breaks while I was driving.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

At different times turn signals, brights, brake lights will quit working and dash light indicator that air bag is not working will illuminate. This can happen while driving or when first starting up. At times you can push stalk up for a right hand turn and left turn signal indicator will light up and blink. If you push the stalk down for a left turn signal nothing will happen.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

Driving down the road, all the sudden started to get a burn smell. Had to pull over and have the truck being towed to the shop. The problem is the harness connector to the a/c- heating blower was burning. Luckily I had discover the problem on time. This problem could be a dangerous fire. We need this problem to be addressed and fixed since all the owners of this vehicle have been having the same issue.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2014

Air bag light comes on making it unclear if occupants are protected or if air bag will just go off on its own. Problem is wires in back door jamb become fatigued and break causing failure of air bags. Vehicle is also considered an inspection failure as well in massachusetts.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer advised that they were unable to perform a diagnostic on the information that the contact provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system) the failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

2005 Chevrolet Colorado 102,000 miles. Vehicle flashes "reduced power" on information display then shuts down engine. Luckily I was able to coast in to a parking lot out of traffic. Engine refuses to start for a couple of minutes then fires up. Has done this a number of times since. Engine code given is p0601 "check sum error", ie computer glitch. This is an unsafe condition, instead of reducing the engine so that one might get out of thraffic, the fact that it kills the engine is a major safeyt risk. Poor programming to say the least.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

The conduit or wire cover from the cab of the truck to the extended cabs rear driver side door cuts wires in half after repeated door use. This prevents speaker from working and makes an airbag problem light display on the vehicle control panel.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

No speed required. The a/c & heater not working. It was fixed while under warranty and it worked for a series of months and then it began acting up again took the vehicle in and it had just gone out of warranty. It was obvious that the issue was exactly the same problem and they refused to complete their work. In the winter or during damp weather it's impossible to drive due to windshield fogging up. It presents a very unsafe condition.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

The abs light comes on and brakes go to the floor with minimum to no stopping power. When this happens the brakes wine. After this happens brakes return to normal but the abs light comes on and stays on until the vehicle is cycled on/off. Once the computer sees that there is no issues with the abs, the light goes off. This leaves you to believe that there was a "bug" in the electronics. Then without warning or a duration of time the problem comes back. And then this process starts all over again. Whats happens when I need the brakes to prevent a accident? after researching online this is a very common issue with this vehicle.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

When I slow down my vehicle begins to spudder and sometimes turns off. At first I thought it might be the fuel filter which was changed but problem persists. The vehicle has shut down on the highway when I slowed down for traffic. I place it in neutral while still in motion and turn it on again then immediately put the vehicle in drive to avoid getting hit. I first thought it was just my vehicle until I came on her today and found other people with similar problems.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2012

My 2005 Chevrolet Colorado will activate the abs system during braking on warm dry pavement and the vehicle will not stop. During these events the abs failure warning light was not illuminated. The brakes have failed at 4 mph and at 25 mph. Other times, the abs failure warning light is illuminated and the brakes work fine. No consistency and will not repeat for mechanic.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the abs and traction controls would illuminate without applying pressure to the brakes. The air conditioner switch would shut on and off while driving over a pot hole. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and advised the contact that there were no recalls. The contact did not inform the manufacturer nor was the vehicle repaired. A local mechanic inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the electrical system needed to be repaired; however, it was non repairable. The current mileage was approximately 96,000 and the failure mileage was 95,000.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

The contact owned a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving approximately 35 mph the contact noticed thick smoke escaping from the dashboard. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and exit the vehicle. The contact also noticed flames underneath the hood. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The contact did not state if there were any injuries. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

The a/c blower control switch doesn't work in positions 2 or 3, but functions properly in positions 1 and 4.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2010

2005 chevy col 3lt. After3yrs and 2 months of having it I had the problem with the drivers side window and door lock not working. Also fuel gauge would drop to empty. Fuel float was sticking! now at 4 1/2 yrs the fuel pump has 'shorted out'. Truck would not start.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

This has been going on for about 3 years off and on. On average, about twice a week, when I try to start my car using my original factory keys (I've tried both with same results) the security icon lights up and the truck fails to start. I then have to wait 10 minutes for it to reset. I've contacted gm about this problem and they have told me to take it to the dealership after that happens. When I was finally able to stop by a dealership, they told me that they needed the problem to happen there for them to diagnose and that scanning it would do no good. When I have to be somewhere, I have to now plan to leave at least 10 minutes early in case my truck doesn't start. Sometimes it happens 2 or three time in a row and I'm waiting 20-30 minutes for the system to reset. I've discovered online that a lot of other people have problems with the passlock system.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2010

The hvac fan motor resistor & connector melted around one one of the prong connections and wire. The resistor and wire harnes are located just under and behind the glovebox on the passenger side. The result of the burning of these parts is that the blower speeds of 1-3 do not work but 4 still finctions normally. This problem is more than an annoyance of the fan setting because the cause is melting wires and burning connections near the passenger's feet. Hopefully this connection can be recalled and redesigned before something serious happens. This appears to be a very common issue as evidence from this blog. . Read more...

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

On 23 June 2010 I was driving my 2005 chevy Colorado to work when I began to smell burning wires. I shut off my vent fan switch and the smell went away. I turned it back on and the smell returned. Later after work I found a charred wire connector and resistor next to the fan motor. The resistor had been previously replaced in 2006 when the vehicle was under warranty. There are alot of posts on-line from owners of the same vehicle complaining about the same issue. I can tell the short started in the resistor where the connector hooks into it. The part number of the resistor is 015218254, and the connector is 015306069. The resistor is made in slovenia. I feel this needs to be a recalled item because of the fire hazard.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

1. Normal driving. 2. Brake light switch failure. Brake lights inoperable along with inoperable cruise control. There were no consequences, however having no brake lights could result in sever consequences. One has to wonder if a wreck had occurred would it be considered my fault since my brake lights not functioning was the cause of the wreck? 3. I replaced the brake light switch with a new gm part purchased at a gm dealer. I have 3 of the last 4 failed brake light switches. The first failed switch was thrown away. The p/n of the most recent failure is 25796381. That is also the p/n of the part purchased by me today. The p/n for the other 2 switches 15912229 & 1518647. The last time my brake light switch failed was 03/2008. I have owned my truck since 3/2005 I believe.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Vehicle stalled while driving. Was able to restart but would only stay running for a few seconds. After several attempts it restarted and stayed running. Since that time the vehicle intermittently stalls immediately after starting and requires several attempts to restart and keep running. Security system light is on. Dealer said it could be the key, or the key switch, or the body control module (bcm), or all three. Research online indicates that numerous chevy Colorado owners have the exact same problem and have been told similar things by dealers. In fact numerous owners of chevys with the passlock security system have the same problem. It feels unsafe to drive a vehicle that stalls and won't restart.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

2005 chevy Colorado hvac fan/diode connector for blower motor. The blower motor has been malfunctioning for the past 12 months. The a/c fan speed finally has stopped working in all speeds except high(4). After searching on line I have found many consumers reporting the same issue. I have searched for listed recalls and have not found any and I feel this issues should be addressed because of the fire risk it poses.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

The third pin in a plug that controls the heat/ac shorts and causes burns marks in the inside of the plug and almost through the plug. Had to replace the harness. There are also complaints on Coloradofans. Com of the same problem. The part number is a featured part on gmpartsdirec. Com. . Read more...

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

2005 chevy Colorado. Blower motor failure on lowest 3 of 4 fan settings. Did online research, learned common failure was resistor / connector (melting of wires and connector). Checked mine. It showed signs of overheating (grey plastic turned brown on one of the four pins. Bought new resistor and connector from gm dealer and self-installed. Blower now works on lowest and highest settings only. Called gm hq. They said take it to dealer; no recall or service bulletin out yet. Seems to be a pretty common failure based on web searches. I'm saving receipts in hopes gm issues a recall before someone has an electrical fire. I do have pictures of my failed components I can email to you if you want and I have links to the online information I found related to this issue. The actual failure date was probably several months ago, it has been working intermittently on lower settings; it finally stopped all together on lower three settings at the end of November and it was Dec 5th when I bought a new resistor and connector.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2009

I have an 05 four door Colorado. In my years of owning it, I have s had several episodes in which the driverside window won't go down and the door locks do not work. This problem has taken up to a month or so for the truck's computer or what ever to work out the problem and start working normally. I have been to the dealer and they say they can't help except for a new switch which costs $200. 00. I have also checked out various automotive forums and found multiple people having the same issue and having it multiple times. I have checked for recalls and tsbs with out help. Gm knows this is an issue, but they don't want to or seem to have an answer. I paid good money for this truck and did not expect a four year old to have multiple electric episodes like this.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

Driver information center on a 2005 chevy Colorado z71 extend cab p/u switches from english to spanish. Miles change to km. All without touching anything. Truck has 36,500 miles on it. Dealership says the dic is bad and needs replaced. Of course they first told me that it will be covered under the speedometer settlement for other gh dic's. Not! this is a four hundred plus dollar repair. Problem started about 32k miles.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

I have a 05 Colorado. Extended cab 4x4 w/ 14,200 miles. I am the original owner. More than once I have had trouble with the driver side window won't go down and the door locks do not work. This problem is very annoying, frustrating and time consuming. It is not an uncommon problem, check out the on line forms related to Colorados. My dealer checked for recalls and tsbs with out help. I am very disappointed in gm as they know this is an issue, but they don't want to or seem to have an answer. Four years ago I had the option to by foreign but bought american instead.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

The NHTSA item number for this problem is 10013546 my 05 Chevrolet Colorado truck has a fan speed setting of 0-4 with 0 being off and 4 being high. About a week ago speeds 1-3 stopped working leaving only off or high. This told me it was the fan resistor. Once I found the resistor I noticed the pigtail connector and the resistor terminals were melted. I assume this is from excessive heat. After a quick search online I noticed there were others having the same issue. The only replacement parts for the problem are the same parts and have not been re-engineered. Which will eventually lead to the same problem down the road. . This is defiantly a fire hazard and malting is only 1 step away from the flash point of plastics. To this moment gm has not issued a voluntary recall on the vehicle. Chevy refused to pay for the repairs but did offer to send me a service certificate worth $200. That great but it doesn't fix the fire hazard, nor the recurring problems.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2007

The brake light switch installed by Chevrolet to replace the brake light switch that they had recalled, had also failed to work. It stopped working shortly after they had installed the new one, but I hadn't realized because I thought my brake lights just kept going out. I wasn't even aware that there was a recall on the brake light switch and that they had replaced it when I had taken it in for another recall issue. I even told my mechanic and he just replaced the brake lights. It wasn't until much later that I realized my lights were actually fine but that the brake light switch was not activating them. I reported this to GMC and they said that they would not fix it unless I paid for it out of pocket ($137 for a diagnostic test, $64 for the actual replacement).

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2007

A/c & heater controls not working. 1st time took pick-up in and was fixed under warranty at hudiburg cheverolet in oklahoma city, ok. The same thing was happening again around 1 1/2 years later took back to hudiburgs again and they refused to fix it because it was out of warranty. A couple of weeks later it began to work for a little while then stopped working altogether.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2006

Fire fire fire an air conditioning resistor pack overheats and catches fire in the air conditioning plenum. This is the fan speed control resistor. I found mine to be melted down and the socket that it plugs into was also severely damaged. The only recommendation that the dealership offered was that I pay them to replace those components. I purchased those components and installed them myself. The same thing happened again. I determined that the ground used for several components in the cabin was insufficient and poorly connected. I replaced the factory installed ground with a heavier gauge wire and attached it to the tubular framing behind the stereo . This was a sufficient fix and I believe it is in gm's best interest to remedy this issue before a gm vehicle catches on fire in a carport or with children on board.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2006

While driving, the radio will lose power, then the a/c will stop working, then the entire dash will lose power (no speed, tac or gas gauges). Then all warning/ failure lights come on. Will reset after you turn car off. Been to dealer 7 times for same problem.
