2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

This is the third time I have had it to the dealership this time. The first time I was told there was nothing wrong with it. The second time, they replaced the torque converter. This time they acknowledged a problem again and and said gm issued a technical service bulletin to address this. I hope this repair works this time. But my concern is, having been repaired before, how long will this repair last, and 2) will it last till the powertrain warranty has expired? having looked through this list since the first problem in 2018, I have some major concerns with the 8 speed transmission in this truck. Gm needs to address this by issuing a recall or extending the powertrain warranty on this model. I need this vehicle to last and right now it doesnt look good.

3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2020

Torque converter clutch 'shudder' at loaded steady speed and acceleration - vibration felt in entire cabin @ 15,560 miles. Non-existent while coasting/off-throttle. Prevalent when drivetrain is fully warmed up & on highway. Extremely annoying.

5 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Transmission shudders at all speeds when driving at low rpms. (like going over rumble strips periodically). Also occasionally shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear. I assume it's the torque converter & fluids but chevy won't fix it. It needs to be recalled ASAP!.

6 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2019

Transmission shutters when going at a constant speed. This started around 10k miles and the dealership has tried to fix it three times without success. First two times they replaced the torque converter and third time they replaced the transmissions fluid. The truck also shifts very hard from first gear to second gear with a huge jerking motion around 10 mph. This is very dangerous when driving in parking lots or anywhere near pedestrians. Finally, when compressing the brake at 25mph the truck jerks very violently down to the next gear. The transmission in these trucks needs to be recalled and replaced soon.

10 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2018

Truck bogs down, looses power when taking off from a stop. Front tires feel like they are skipping even though truck is in 2 wheel drive especially up hill. Once truck gets going it rumbles and vibrates so much it bothers your ears, constantly loosing power and speed as your driving. Was told it was the torque converter and it was replaced. Truck continued to have same issue. Truck then blew up (dealership words) while I was driving 75 mph down the highway. Dealership stated it was like your truck went into low gear while you were driving and it should never be able to do that. Had fluid flush and replaced again and rumbling and power lose still occurring.

11 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Twice in shop for faulty modules. Transmission/torque convertor issues created jerking/shudder while driving on highway at speeds of 40 to 70 mph. Was in shop for over 15 days total and repair was ineffective 3 times with acknowledging issues and twice where a diagnostic was ran and was told nothing was wrong. Dealerships in the beginning years ago replaced the torque convertor with a price of $2000k. This was expensive and now they flush the transmisssion 3 times at a cost of $400. 00 per. Gm has offered the issue for an extended warranty from 3 years to 4 years and the original 60 month drive train. I want a buy back as this problem is not solveable from the dealers stand point or it would have been resolved two years ago. I have sent 10 pages of shop records to gmlegal as per their request.

12 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

8 speed automatic transmission - rough shifting, usually when driving between 40 and 60 miles per hour. Truck intermittently feels like it is riding over rumble strips. Transmission seems to be hunting. Possible issue with torque converter.

13 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

The problem with my Chevrolet Colorado 2017 truck started with when the new truck barley had under 200 miles on its odometer. The issue is the truck starts to vibrated at a speed of 50-55 mph like if you are going thru speed bumps and the noise stops when you go over 60 miles per hour. I have done a simple 20 minute reserch and have found out that there are other individuals that have had the same issue with their same year Colorado truck's. I took my truck to the dealership where I bought the truck. They knew exactly what the issue was. They are in the process of replacing the torque converter. Looks like a major concern to me.

14 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

After about 600-700 miles on new vehicle, after truck sits overnight when first started you could feel what seems to be the the torque converter was engaging as it the transmission had lost pressure. Then while driving anywhere between 40-65mph converter seem to be unlocking and locking which cause a very bad shutter as if you were driving over bricks, and then when coming to a stop the transmission down shifted into 1st gear very very hard, which is hard on the drive line. Took back to dealer they keep it 3 days and flushed trans fluid with a new special fluid. The shuttering has stopped but the other 2 problems remain, so I'm thinking now they'll have to change the converter out.

15 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

I have a 2017 Colorado z71. I bought it specifically so that both my wife and I could use it as necessary, (being of quite small stature she is unable to drive a full size pick up) however, due to the following ongoing issues she has yet to agree to drive it out of concern for her safety. It presented with what have become chronic transmission problems immediately after purchase. I have returned it to the dealer multiple times to no avail. Initially it intermittently shuddered to the point of vibrating the entire vehicle as if driving over rumble strips while driving on either streets or highway. Then it began lunging forward unexpectedly and uncontrollably when presumably shifting to the point which feels like having been rear ended by another vehicle while driving on both streets and in parking lots. During the span of multiple visits the dealer has replaced the torque converter, as well as replacing the transmission fluid. Despite no longer shuddering, the vehicle still lunges randomly. I was informed by the service manager during my latest visit about the lunging that they knew what the vehicle is doing, and that there is no fix for it. . . Which is absolutely unacceptable. I'm quite concerned about my vehicle lunging unexpectedly and uncontrollably into a pedestrian or another vehicle.
