1 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2021

I started my 2017 Chevrolet Colorado in a parking lot and had no power steering. I received a power steering failure message telling me to drive with caution and to have the power steering serviced. I left it run for 15 minute and shut it off. I returned a couple hours later and the power steering had returned. The dealer found code c056d. They had to replace the rack and pinon assembly. I am the original owner of the truck and it has 38000 miles on it. The dealer reduced the repair cost from $1500 to $900. I found that there was a recall for 2015 and 2016 Colorados for the same problem. A service bulletin 16-na-065 was issued for 2015 and 2016 models and then later included 2017 and 2018 models. Chev would not pay any of the cost because it was not under warranty or part of the recall. This is a major safety issue. I have found several instances in forums where the same thing has happened. Apparently this is not just a Colorado/canyon issue and is not limited to 2015 and 2016 model years. There are examples of this happening on silveraldos also. It the vehicle had been in motion when I lost the power steering I could have caused a major crash.
