I was in my vehicle was sitting at a complete stop, ignition on, engine running, transmission in park. I then heard an audible scratching plastic noise coming from the left lower rear extended cab door. I looked back to see what it was (saw nothing) and noticed when I turned back around my seat belt would not retract. I was then able to un-ravel all of the seat belt webbing feeling no retractor tension until it was fully extended. The seat belt will not retract back into the door / retractor to this day. I am the original owner of the vehicle (purchased new in late 2007) it has never been in an accident (major or minor), it is well cared for and not abused. I am forced to purchase a new seat belt / retractor for the vehicle. Safety restraints should last longer than 4~5 years especially not being shock loaded (in an accident). What if I was braking hard or coming into a collision, I would not be here to write this. I am an automotive engineer with over 10 years in the industry; most of which has been testing (some fmvss). It is of my opinion that this retractor / seatbelt has a serious manufacturing defect or design flaw and should be investigated.
