6 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

In my 2005 chevy Corvette, driving north on highway i55 near the louisiana/ mississippi line at 10 pm my lowbeam headlights stopped working. Used hi beams to return home. When car sits for several hours and engine compartment cools off low beams work normally. When engine compartment heats up during normal operation lights extinguish again. Researched on the Corvette forum and found this to be a common problem. The issue is in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. A wire in the box breaks at a bend. I have made the suggested repair as per the forum but felt it important to report the problem as it put me in a dangerous situation.

7 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

While driving home tonight (a 20 minute drive)the headlights turned off by themselves. We tried turning off the car and restarting and also checked the fuse, neither fixed the problem. 8 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

While driving my vehicle at night, my headlights suddenly turned off. I pulled over and restarting the car hoping it was just a minor electrical short etc. However, the headlights did not respond. I was forced to drive 20 miles in the dark with my fog lamps and at times, my high beams. I am aware of an existing investigation relating to this problem and it appears that this problem is widespread. Clearly having your headlights turn off without warning when you need them poses a significant safety hazard to myself, any passengers and other motorists. I hope the investigation will continue resulting in a conclusive outcome and a resolution identified. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you.

9 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

While driving in the pouring rain with my daughter following me in another car the headlights went out. We were on PA mountain roads and I did not know what happened. This was the most dangerous situation. We were 4 hrs from home, I thought the wipers were bad and my vision had failed and the state just didn't paint the lines on the rd. The situation was so bad I had to wait till we found the next exit ramp to pull over. I left the car running and noticed my headlights went off while I was paying for my food and gas. I had to drive home with my highbeams on!!! when we finally got home I was so shaken by the situation I looked it up online to find out this was not and isolated incident!!! recall this before someone is killed!!!.

22 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

I read that you are investigating the headlights intermittently going out on 2005-2007 Corvettes. This happened to me 3 times, once while driving on the highway at 10pm at night. That was the last straw and I brought it in to get repair about 4 weeks ago at a Chevrolet dealership. The cost was $680 to repair. Hopefully this gets a recall because it was very dangerous having the lights go out in the middle of driving on the highway. The vehicle had not been to the dealer. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 84,000. . . . Updated 07-24-13 the consumer stated the lights were failing regularly and staying on about 20 minutes, before going out.

24 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

Both low beam headlights will suddenly turn off during operation. The issue appears to correlate to engine temperature. When the engine is cold and/or first starts the headlights function correctly even in the automatic setting. But, when the engine reaches operating temperature the lights go out and will not come on again until the engine has cooled. Shutting off the engine and restarting does not reset the lights. It has also happened that the lights may be on but after driving the vehicle and stopping the engine the lights will not come back on when restarted. I have taken the car to the van Chevrolet in carrollton texas and they say they can not correct or even duplicate the issue.

25 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

Both low beam headlights went out at the same time driving home at night. Next day they were working fine when I started the car again. After driving about 15 minutes they both went out again.

26 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2012

My headlights stopped working. The light bulbs are fine and will work in the morning and it seems that it is a defect with the fuse box. In the morning when the fuse box is cold the lights will turn on. Afternoon and evening they fail due to temperature change. The fuse box needs to be replaced.

27 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Low beam headlights will go out after about 15 minutes of operation. Vehicle is not safe to operate when headlights are needed. Lights will not come back on. Night driving requires hi beam (not safe).

28 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2011

The low beam headlights go out after the engine compartment gets warm. Then when the engine compartment gets cool they will work again. From my research online and through the Chevrolet dealer it appears that the fuse box in the engine compartment alters the low beam signal circuit to the body control module when its temperature rises. This is obviously a design problem that has potentially tragic safety implications. The repair through the Chevrolet dealer was quoted to me as $1,200. The problem fuse box has no moving parts to wear out. There is nothing the car owner could have done to prevent this issue from occurring. It is sad owners have to pay to repair a part that shouldn't wear out because of a design flaw.

29 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2011

Both headlight went out simultaneously and would not turn back on. It was not bulbs burning out since replacing them did not fix the problem. This was very dangerous since I was driving on the freeway at night at the time the lights went out.

30 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

Headlights randomly turning off once the fuse box in the engine bay is warm. When the car is cold the headlights work fine.

31 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

My headlights spontaneously stopped working at night on my 2005 c6 chevy Corvette.

32 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

I was driving my Corvette down i10 at night when my low-beams disengaged, placing me in the dark and almost caused a wreck. I drove rest of the way with my high-beams. The next day when I started it, the low-beams came on, but after about 5 minutes they both went off. The high-beams still worked. I went to a local Corvette-certified master mechanic who checked the bulbs, fuses, relays, and electrical. He said that it appeared to be an issue with the fuse block. He wanted a lot of money to replace it, so I held off to check it out some more. Every day, once my car became warm, either from running or from the arizona sun, my low-beams would turn off. I went to the Corvette forum, the largest Corvette online community, and the members knew what was going on immediately. They told me it was my fuse block and that many c6 Corvettes had the same issue. . . As the engine compartment heated up, the running lights failed. They told me let my car run until the lights went out and then place a bag of ice on the fuse block. I did and within 10 minutes the lights came back on. The folks in the forum said that this was a well-known safety-defect in the Corvette world and that chevy refused to acknowledge it. I went to the chevy dealer and told one of the service managers. She disappeared for 10 minutes and when she came back told me that they had never heard of this issue. They ignored what I told them and said they would need half a day to explore the electrical system and that even then, they may not find the issue. The Corvette forum recommended that I report this as a safety issue. Here is just once of their links which reported the same problem. . Read more...
