1 Steering Anti-theft Device problem

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that when the keyless ignition was turned off, the steering wheel would lock with the illumination of the steering warning indicator and would not permit the engine to be restarted. The failure was consistent. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer numerous times for the malfunction. The battery was replaced and the problem recurred. There was a recall related to the defect under NHTSA campaign id number 04v060000 (steering:column locking:anti-theft device). The recall pertained to 1997-2004 model year vehicles. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.
