2 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

My question is; I own a 2005 Corvette c6 and have been having problems with my steering column which is the tilt and telescoping. Such as not being able to start it. I am lucky that my brakes haven't locked up on me yet. During my research I found that you had began a safety recall on April 30, 2010, NHTSA 10v172000, regarding the tilt and telescoping steering wheel on my year and model of vehicle. I contacted my Chevrolet dealership yesterday about this and scheduling to have them put in the bypass to column lock. I mentioned the safety recall and he told me that there was only one recall on my vehicle, lights. Why isn't my car approved for the safety recall of 2010, when she meets all of the criteria?.

3 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2017

Tried to start my Corvette which is stored in the garage and dash screen stated "service column lock" and vehicle will not start. After researching online I found this is a known issue for 2005 manual transmission Corvettes and lots of people are having the same problem. Called gm to see if my VIN would be covered since this is a known issue with a faulty part, and was told it was not. Gm should do the right thing for their customers and recall this known problem to fix or reimburse those who have already paid for this very inconvenient and dangerous issue.

2005 Corvette steering column lock would not allow engine to start but would allow steering wheel to move. Dealer replaced column lock system, worked ok for 10 days. Car would not start again, column lock would not release steering wheel. I understand earlier model vettes recalled to fix this with a bypass. Later model vettes do not have this locking system. Part is obviously defective for 2005. I am concerned that column lock will engage while I am driving. Have there been any crashes resulting from this? I am afraid to drive this car.

Failure Date: 05/31/2010

Received a safety recall notice from chevy for my 2005 Corvette. Safety recall 10118. General motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2005 Chevrolet Corvettes equipped with a tilt and telescoping steering column. As a result gm is conducting a safety recall. In rare cases, repeated movement of the steering column may cause a signal interruption within the column. If this occurs, the message, "service active handling system" will appear, and one or more of the brakes may apply , possibly causing the vehicle to pull to the right or left. If the driver does not respond to the change in vehicle movement, a crash could occur. Chevrolet will inspect the wire connection in the steering column, and if necessary, install an additional clip.
