1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2023

For last 3 years whenever I fill my vehicle with gas the garage smells of gas until the tank is less than half a tank. . . The other major issue is the vehicle will not come out of park multiple time. This has put me in embarrassing situations many times. I stay away from driving the vehicle so many times when I could be in physical danger .

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2021

After starting the vehicle I am unable to shift out of park. This endangers both myself and a passenger if I need to move the car quickly in case of fire or another vehicle or object coming toward me. It also endangers other passengers in vehicles I may be blocking because they are unable to move. There are many other c6 Corvettes with this same problem documented per the Corvette forum and youtube.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

Vehicle will not shift out of park after starting, even when brake pedal is properly depressed.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

Car sticks in park at times and is hard to get out of park, happens often for past year.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

This particular Corvette c6 model (2005 through 2013 model years) has a well known and documented problem with the automatic transmissions. Upon engine startup, it oftentimes will not shift out of the park gear. When the Chevrolet customer service people were called about this, their response was that they are well aware of this problem with the c6 model years. The customer service people said that a recall was not issued because the way to address this problem is shut off the engine, put the ignition in the accessory mode, then try and shift the transmission into neutral. If it is able to shift into neutral, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, then try and shift the transmission into the drive or reverse gear. If this sequence doesn't work, we were told just to keep repeating this sequence over and over. There have been occasions when we had to repeat this sequence at least half a dozen times and there have also been occasions where we were stranded in parking lots and had to leave the car and come back to it later to try again. This is a safety concern due to the real possibility of being stranded at night in parking lots. There aren't any warning lights or messages. There also aren't any advanced warnings, in terms of symptoms. The only way the problem manifests itself, is when the car cannot be shifted out of the park gear. Whenever the car is brought into service, including at Chevrolet dealers for such items as oil changes, the mechanics try shifting it out of the park gear and when they can't, they will call and ask us what to do. The added concern here is that if the mechanic physically forces the shifter out of the park gear, the entire shifter and possibly the transmission will be damaged. We are the original owners of the car and it only has 18,000 miles on it. This problem first appeared about two years ago but it is happening much more often now.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

Returned from a drive. Backed car into parking spot and transmission will not go into park. As a result, can not restart car.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

Automatic shifter will lock in park and will lock and not move. Car can be running, in park, and it is impossible to move the shifter. Restarting or using accessory mode will sometimes unlock. Often you are just stuck and car must be towed.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2018

Automatic shifter sticks in park when trying to shift it.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

Automatic transmission gear shifter locked in park.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2018

I purchased the vehicle a few months after TSB n150682 was issued. It could be dangerous with the leaky fuel and smell.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

After starting, with foot on brake, car still, the car will not shift out of park. (automatic transmission).

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2017

Transmission is locked in neutral or drive and cannot shut off engine or place car in reverse or park. Had to disconnect the battery to shut off the engine. Once off, the engine could not be restarted and had to manually push the vehicle to get it off the street. This is a major safety issue--fortunately I was not on a railroad tracks when this happened!.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

October of this year. My transmission in my Corvette would not go into park. I put it into reverse and backed it out and then could not put it up into park. I then put it into drive and moved forward some and tried to put it into park. This time it would not go even into reverse. The vehicle has 56220 miles on it. I stays in a garage climate controlled and has seen bad weather maybe 6 time (snow or rain). So off the car went to the Chevrolet dealer to get repaired. I googled the problem to do a little research and found out that there has been lots of complaints on this same problem with out any results. So there is a plastic piece in the shiftier mechanism the entire assembly must be replaced. So at $1068. 00 later the problem was fixed. Did gm know about the problem, they sure did. The service person told me he has replaced 2 the same week and more through the year. My gut feeling is that this is a hazard to not only the owner but to other drivers out there. I even feel that it could be life threatening to everyone. The piece gets stuck in the unit and one could drive straight into a wall or run over someone in the vehicles path.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

Stationary vehicle gets stuck in park. Never certain that the vehicle can be put into drive or reverse. Behavior is random-it can take several tries over minutes to shift out of park. Dealer replaced brake switch-didn't improve behavior. Sometimes I use the recommended "accessory mode" to shift-this takes several tries as well & has failed at times to get vehicle into gear. Behavior started in 2016.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2017

Vehicle is always stationary when it gets stuck in park, and unable to shift into gear. I let it set for a few minutes then push start again. Sometimes it will shift into gear and other times it will not. 50/50 chance one way or the other. This has happened several times since I inherited this vehicle from my father in early 2017 with 48,000 miles on it. Fast forward to today 03/09/2018 vehicle does not go into park but is "stuck" in neutral, does not go into park or any other gear.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

Shifter of auto. Trans. Sticks in park. This is dangerous if your stuck in traffic, emergency vehicle is being blocked, or at railray crossing with train coming, or trying to get away from a forest fire. Over 3000 hits on you-tube for this problem with 2006 and 2007 Corvettes and maybe others. Chevrolet will not fix problem. Only 14,000 miles on my car!!! car is stationary in park, and won't move!!!.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

This complaint was filed under the wrong VIN no. The complaint is being submitted again with the typo corrected with the correct VIN 1g1yy26u275131535. The incorrect VIN no. Was submitted with my complaint # 10944956. The details were submitted with complaint #10944956 and all other info submitted for that complaint earlier today 20170111 are correct. This submission is not a new, second complaint but is instead a correction to the VIN no. Given for my previous complaint to be submitted as a correction. The number of occurrences of the problem with the automatic transmission getting stuck in park has occurred with increasing frequency since 2014, the most recent occurrence was on 9/05/16 at the dealership where I bought the car.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

When starting my car would not shift out of park. Service center said shifter went out completely my car only has 57,000 miles. I told them I had been having a hard time getting it out of park to reverse to even put it in drive. This has happen several times.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

Arrived home after a short drive, automatic shifter button would not depress so I was locked out of reverse and park, only have neutral and drive. Also was unable to turn car off, had to remove negative battery cable to keep from draining battery. With battery reconnected the accessories are still on and can't be turned off unless negative is removed. Also the car will not start in neutral.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2016

It was happen this year multiple times the transmission shipter problem I could not get off the park position, I have to push the shipter forwards and press down the brake paddle harder several times so it could get off the park after I start the engine , it sometime take about 5 minutes stuck on park after I did all that above.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2016

Vehicle gets stuck in park. It will take numerous attempts at pushing the shift knob and pressing the brake pedal before vehicle will finally release and shifts out of park.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

Transmission selector safety lockout fails. Transmission will stay locked in park or can not be returned to park.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

Transmission will not shift out of park. Dealer replaced brake switch. Still have same issue.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

Abnormal valve guide wear in cylinder heads considering age and mileage of vehicle. Potential catastrophic engine failure from dropped valve if not addressed. Chevrolet should fix whether vehicle still in warranty or not as is believed to be poor quality control resulting in machining errors.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

2007 Chevrolet Corvette began smelling of fuel upon fill-up on 8/15/2014. Chevrolet dealer in cary, nc claimed to have diagnosed the issue and charged for diagnostic fee, said end result was faulty fuel cap so it was replaced. Total for this was $42. 08. Upon next fill-up, the smell persisted without any change from before diagnosis at Chevrolet dealer. Approximately 7 weeks later, fuel smell had worsened slightly and also the engine was making a "chattering" sound. Since Chevrolet dealer could not determine the fuel smell issue correctly, I chose a highly reputable independent shop and they immediately found the problems. The "chattering" sound was a faulty harmonic balancer, a known issue with the Chevrolet Corvette engines and cost ~$1,100 to repair using Chevrolet parts. The fuel smell was due to a cracked driver side fuel tank (corvettes use two fuel tanks) which was easily found by this independent shop once the car was lifted. The factory-installed driver side fuel tank had shrunk and cracked, trapping the fuel pump inside, thus forcing the tank and pump to be replaced, along with all related seals and parts. Total to repair these fuel related issues was ~2,700, for a grand total of $3,803. 27. Upon performing further research, many Corvette owners have had the exact same problem--driver side fuel tank cracks over time and every online reference found indicates that gm covers the issue. I contacted Chevrolet and was told that I only had a 2-year/24-month warranty on these issues. I find that to be ridiculous, especially since the same issue is occurring on cars of this type across the country. It seems as if Chevrolet and Chevrolet dealers pick and choose who they cover these items for, which is even more ridiculous because I don't think it should be necessary that I have to keep fighting just to be taken care of the way I should have been in the first place.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

2007 Corvette z06 with ls7 engine e. Valve train began making usual noises. Factory valve guides found to be out of specifications. Heads removed and factory valve guides and exhaust valves removed and replaced.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

When I had the motor checked proactively the exhaust valve guides were outside of gm specifications. This defect can cause the head of a valve to snap off and destroy the engine. The engine will stop working immediately, causing the power steering and power brakes systems to fail. The valve failure can cause an oil spill onto the road if the engine is compromised. There have been numerous documented cases of engine failure as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder. This can cause a catastrophic accident or fire. Gm is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. I was forced to spend in excess of $3k to insure I did not harm anyone or myself. Best regards.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

After driving the car for approximately two miles I stopped the car to park. After stopping, the shifting control lever would not shift into reverse or park. The shifter safety system in the lever failed.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

Transmission would not shift to reverse or park when I want to park the car. Chevy dealer did temp. Fix in April 2014 (out of town and extended period to get part). Problem happened again July 2014. I can drive the car and when parked I simply park where I can drive forward and apply the hand brake as it will restart in neutral.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

My gm service request numberb is:71-1397351938. The automatic gear selector lever occasionaly got stuck in park (p) and took a long dangerous time to get it worked loose and functioning properly. I lived with it for several months, but it got progessively much worse and more dangerous. I spoke to other Corvette owners and found out that I had a common safty problem for my model. I finally took the car to the dealer that sold it to me (mountain view Chevrolet) who said they had seen a lot of this defect and they then charged me nearly $600 to correct this dangerous defect. Not right!!!! it should have been recalled from the get-go and fixed promptly without charge. Unable to move in traffic, get out of the way of danger, or off of railway tracks is a potential killer. Ther should be a safty recall.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

Driving down the highway and a big black cloud of smoke starting spewing out so I pulled over. Had it towed to a Corvette specialist and they informed me that piston #7 was cracked. I still have the cracked piston in my possession, I've attached photos.
